⁸ Babylon is suddenly fallen, and destroyed: howl for her, take balm for her pain, if so she may be healed.

⁶ Howl ye, for the day of the Lord is near: it shall come as a destruction from the Lord. ⁷ Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every heart of man shall melt,

⁹ Behold this man cometh, the rider upon the chariot with two horsemen, and he answered, and said: Babylon is fallen, she is fallen, and all the graven gods thereof are broken unto the ground.

⁹ These two things shall come upon thee suddenly in one day, barrenness and widowhood. All things are come upon thee, because of the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great hardness of thy enchanters.

²² Is there no balm in Galaad? or is there no physician there? Why then is not the wound of the daughter of my people closed?

¹² For thus saith the Lord: Thy bruise is incurable, thy wound is very grievous. ¹³ There is none to judge thy judgment to bind it up: thou hast no healing medicines. ¹⁴ All thy lovers have forgotten thee, and will not seek after thee: for I have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, with cruel chastisement: by reason of the multitude of thy iniquities, thy sins are hardened. ¹⁵ Why criest thou for thy affliction? thy sorrow is incurable: for the multitude of thy iniquity, and for thy hardened sins I have done these things to thee.

¹¹ Go up into Galaad, and take balm, O virgin daughter of Egypt: in vain dost thou multiply medicines, there shall be no cure for thee.

²⁰ Moab is confounded, because he is overthrown: howl ye, and cry, tell ye it in Arnon, that Moab is wasted.

³¹ Therefore will I lament for Moab, and I will cry out to all Moab, for the men of the brick wall that mourn.

² Declare ye among the nations, and publish it, lift up a standard: proclaim, and conceal it not: say: Babylon is taken, Bel is confounded, Merodach is overthrown, their graven things are confounded, their idols are overthrown.

⁴¹ How is Sesach taken, and the renowned one of all the earth surprised? How is Babylon become an astonishment among the nations?

³⁰ And they shall mourn over thee with a loud voice and shall cry bitterly: and they shall cast up dust upon their heads and shall be sprinkled with ashes. ³¹ And they shall shave themselves bald for thee, and shall be girded with haircloth: and they shall weep for thee with bitterness of soul, with most bitter weeping. ³² And they shall take up a mournful song for thee, and shall lament thee: What city is like Tyre, which is become silent in the midst of the sea?

² Son of man prophesy, and say: Thus saith the Lord God: Howl ye, Woe, woe to the day:

²⁴ Wherefore, he hath sent the part of the hand which hath written this that is set down.

³¹ And Darius, the Mede, succeeded to the kingdom, being threescore and two years old.

¹⁹ Thy destruction is not hidden, thy wound is grievous: all that have heard the fame of thee, have clapped their hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?

⁸ And another angel followed, saying: That great Babylon is fallen, is fallen; which made all nations to drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.

² And he cried out with a strong voice, saying: Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen: and is become the habitation of devils and the hold of every unclean spirit and the hold of every unclean and hateful bird:

⁸ Therefore, shall her plagues come in one day, death and mourning and famine. And she shall be burnt with the fire: because God is strong, who shall judge her. ⁹ And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived in delicacies with her, shall weep and bewail themselves over her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning: ¹⁰ Standing afar off for fear of her torments, saying: Alas! alas! that great city, Babylon, that mighty city: for in one hour is thy judgment come. ¹¹ And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her: for no man shall buy their merchandise any more.

¹⁷ For in one hour are so great riches come to nought. And every shipmaster and all that sail into the lake, and mariners, and as many as work in the sea, stood afar off, ¹⁸ And cried, seeing the place of her burning, saying: What city is like to this great city? ¹⁹ And they cast dust upon their heads and cried, weeping and mourning, saying: Alas! alas! that great city, wherein all were made rich, that had ships at sea, by reason of her prices. For, in one hour she is made desolate.
