³⁰ And Jesus answering, said: A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell among robbers, who also stripped him and having wounded him went away, leaving him half dead. ³¹ And it chanced, that a certain priest went down the same way: and seeing him, passed by. ³² In like manner also a Levite, when he was near the place and saw him, passed by. ³³ But a certain Samaritan, being on his journey, came near him: and seeing him, was moved with compassion: ³⁴ And going up to him, bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine: and setting him upon his own beast, brought him to an inn and took care of him. ³⁵ And the next day he took out two pence and gave to the host and said: Take care of him; and whatsoever thou shalt spend over and above, I, at my return, will repay thee. ³⁶ Which of these three, in thy opinion, was neighbour to him that fell among the robbers?

²⁹ And there shall come from the east and the west and the north and the south: and shall sit down in the kingdom of God. ³⁰ And behold, they are last that shall be first: and they are first that shall be last.

² And they began to accuse him, saying: We have found this man perverting our nation and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar and saying that he is Christ the king.

⁴⁶ But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them the things that Jesus had done. ⁴⁷ The chief priests, therefore, and the Pharisees gathered a council and said: What do we, for this man doth many miracles? ⁴⁸ If we let him alone so, all will believe in him; and the Romans will come, and take away our place and nation. ⁴⁹ But one of them, named Caiphas, being the high priest that year, said to them: You know nothing. ⁵⁰ Neither do you consider that it is expedient for you that one man should die for the people and that the whole nation perish not.

⁶ And Annas the high priest and Caiphas and John and Alexander: and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest. ⁷ And setting them in the midst, they asked: By what power or by what name, have you done this? ⁸ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said to them: Ye princes of the people and ancients, hear. ⁹ If we this day are examined concerning the good deed done to the infirm man, by what means he hath been made whole: ¹⁰ Be it known to you all and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God hath raised from the dead, even by him, this man standeth here before you, whole.

²⁸ Saying: Commanding, we commanded you that you should not teach in this name. And behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine: and you have a mind to bring the blood of this man upon us.

And behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch, of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge over all her treasures, had come to Jerusalem to adore. ²⁸ And he was returning, sitting in his chariot and reading Isaias the prophet. ²⁹ And the Spirit said to Philip: Go near and join thyself to this chariot. ³⁰ And Philip running thither, heard him reading the prophet Isaias. And he said: Thinkest thou that thou understandest what thou readest? ³¹ Who said: And how can I, unless some man shew me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. ³² And the place of the scripture which he was reading was this: He was led as a sheep to the slaughter: and like a lamb without voice before his shearer, so openeth he not his mouth. ³³ In humility his judgment was taken away. His generation who shall declare, for his life shall be taken from the earth? ³⁴ And the eunuch answering Philip, said: I beseech thee, of whom doth the prophet speak this? Of himself, or of some other man? ³⁵ Then Philip, opening his mouth and beginning at this scripture, preached unto him Jesus. ³⁶ And as they went on their way, they came to a certain water. And the eunuch said: See, here is water: What doth hinder me from being baptized? ³⁷ And Philip said: If thou believest with all thy heart, thou mayest. And he answering, said: I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. ³⁸ And he commanded the chariot to stand still. And they went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch. And he baptized him. ³⁹ And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord took away Philip: and the eunuch saw him no more. And he went on his way rejoicing.

⁶ And Paul, knowing that the one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, cried out in the council: Men, brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of Pharisees: concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.

²³ And he commanded a centurion to keep him: and that he should be easy and that he should not prohibit any of his friends to minister unto him. ²⁴ And after some days, Felix, coming with Drusilla his wife, who was a Jew, sent for Paul and heard of him the faith that is in Christ Jesus. ²⁵ And as he treated of justice and chastity and of the judgment to come, Felix, being terrified, answered: For this time, go thy way: but when I have a convenient time, I will send for thee. ²⁶ Hoping also withal that money should be given him by Paul: for which cause also oftentimes sending for him, he spoke with him.

²⁹ And Paul said: I would to God that both in a little and in much, not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, should become such as I also am, except these bands.

²² But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that it is every where contradicted.

¹¹ Knowing therefore the fear of the Lord, we use persuasion to men: but to God we are manifest. And I trust also that in your consciences we are manifest.

²⁰ For Christ therefore we are ambassadors, God as it were exhorting by us, for Christ, we beseech you, be reconciled to God.

¹ And we helping do exhort you that you receive not the grace of God in vain.

³² And be ye kind one to another: merciful, forgiving one another, even as God hath forgiven you in Christ.

¹¹ Persecutions, afflictions: such as came upon me at Antioch, at Iconium and at Lystra: what persecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord delivered me.

¹⁷ But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, that by me the preaching may be accomplished and that all the Gentiles may hear. And I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. ¹⁸ The Lord hath delivered me from every evil work and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom. To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

³⁶ For patience is necessary for you: that, doing the will of God, you may receive the promise.

⁹ Moreover, we have had fathers of our flesh for instructors, and we reverenced them. Shall we not much more obey the Father of spirits and live?

²⁵ See that you refuse him not that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spoke upon earth, much more shall not we that turn away from him that speaketh to us from heaven.

And a great sword was given to him. ⁵ And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature saying: Come and see. And behold a black horse. And he that sat on him had a pair of scales in his hand. ⁶ And I heard, as it were a voice in the midst of the four living creatures, saying: Two pounds of wheat for a penny, and thrice two pounds of barley for a penny: and see thou hurt not the wine and the oil. ⁷ And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying: Come and see. ⁸ And behold a pale horse: and he that sat upon him, his name was Death. And hell followed him. And power was given to him over the four parts of the earth, to kill with sword, with famine and with death and with the beasts of the earth.
