²³ I have sworn by myself, the word of justice shall go out of my mouth, and shall not return: ^(45:24) For every knee shall be bowed to me, and every tongue shall swear.

¹⁵ And the angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven, saying: ¹⁶ By my own self have I sworn, saith the Lord: because thou hast done this thing, and hast not spared thy only begotten son for my sake: ¹⁷ I will bless thee, and I will multiply thy seed as the stars of heaven, and as the sand that is by the sea shore; thy seed shall possess the gates of their enemies. ¹⁸ And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because thou hast obeyed my voice.

⁵³ The God of Abraham, and the God of Nachor, the God of their father, judge betweeen us. And Jacob swore by the fear of his father Isaac:

¹⁹ God is not a man, that he should lie, nor is the son of man, that he should be changed. Hath he said then, and will he not do? hath he spoken, and will he not fulfil?

¹³ Take heed deligently lest thou forget the Lord, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God, and shalt serve him only, and thou shalt swear by his name.

¹⁴ And they swore to the Lord with a loud voice with joyful shouting, and with sound of trumpet, and sound of cornets, ¹⁵ All that were in Juda with a curse: for with all their heart they swore, and with all their will they sought him, and they found him, and the Lord gave them rest round about.

²⁹ All that could understand, promising for their brethren, with their chief men, and they came to promise, and swear that they would walk in the law of God, which he gave in the hand of Moses the servant of God, that they would do and keep all the commandments of the Lord our God, and his judgments and his ceremonies.

^{11 (63:12)} But the king shall rejoice in God, all they shall be praised that swear by him: because the mouth is stopped of them that speak wicked things.

² How he swore to the Lord, he vowed a vow to the God of Jacob:

¹⁸ In that day there shall be five cities in the land of Egypt, speaking the language of Chanaan, and swearing by the Lord of hosts: one shall be called the city of the sun. ¹⁹ In that day there shall be an altar of the Lord in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a monument of the Lord at the borders thereof: ²⁰ It shall be for a sign, and for a testimony to the Lord of hosts in the land of Egypt. For they shall cry to the Lord because of the oppressor, and he shall send them a Saviour and a defender to deliver them. ²¹ And the Lord shall be known by Egypt, and the Egyptians shall know the Lord in that day, and shall worship him with sacrifices and offerings: and they shall make vows to the Lord, and perform them.

³ For I will pour out waters upon the thirsty ground, and streams upon the dry land: I will pour out my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thy stock. ⁴ And they shall spring up among the herbs, as willows beside the running waters. ⁵ One shall say: I am the Lord's, and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob, and another shall subscribe with his hand, To the Lord, and surname himself by the name of Israel.

¹⁹ I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I have not said to the seed of Jacob: Seek me in vain. I am the Lord that speak justice, that declare right things.

¹¹ So shall my word be, which shall go forth from my mouth: it shall not return to me void, but it shall do whatsoever I please, and shall prosper in the things for which I sent it.

¹⁶ In which he that is blessed upon the earth, shall be blessed in God, amen: and he that sweareth in the earth, shall swear by God, amen: because the former distresses are forgotten, and because they are hid from my eyes.

⁵ But if you will not hearken to these words: I swear by myself, saith the Lord, that this house shall become a desolation.

¹³ For I have sworn by myself, saith the Lord, that Bosra shall become a desolation, and a reproach, and a desert, and a curse: and all her cities shall be everlasting wastes.

⁸ The Lord God hath sworn by his own soul, saith the Lord the God of hosts: I detest the pride of Jacob, and I hate his houses, and I will deliver up the city with the inhabitants thereof.

⁴ But what saith the divine answer to him? I have left me seven thousand men that have not bowed their knees to Baal.

¹⁰ But thou, why judgest thou thy brother? Or thou, why dost thou despise thy brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. ¹¹ For it is written: As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me and every tongue shall confess to God. ¹² Therefore every one of us shall render account to God for himself.

¹⁰ That in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those that are in heaven, on earth, and under the earth:

¹³ For God making promises to Abraham, because he had no one greater by whom he might swear, swore by himself, ¹⁴ Saying: Unless blessing I shall bless thee and multiplying I shall multiply thee. ¹⁵ And so patiently enduring he obtained the promise. ¹⁶ For men swear by one greater than themselves: and an oath for confirmation is the end of all their controversy. ¹⁷ Wherein God, meaning more abundantly to shew to the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, interposed an oath: ¹⁸ That by two immutable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have the strongest comfort, we who have fled for refuge to hold fast the hope set before us.
