¹¹ There shall be a crying for wine in the streets: all mirth is forsaken: the joy of the earth is gone away.

⁶ Give strong drink to them that are sad; and wine to them that are grieved in mind:

²² And they shall look to the earth, and behold trouble and darkness, weakness and distress, and a mist following them, and they cannot fly away from their distress.

¹⁹ By the wrath of the Lord of hosts the land is troubled, and the people shall be as fuel for the fire: no man shall spare his brother.

¹⁰ And gladness and joy shall be taken away from Carmel, and there shall be no rejoicing nor shouting in the vineyards. He shall not tread out wine in the press that was wont to tread it out: the voice of the treaders I have taken away.

⁷ The vintage hath mourned, the vine hath languished away, all the merry have sighed. ⁸ The mirth of timbrels hath ceased, the noise of them that rejoice is ended, the melody of the harp is silent. ⁹ They shall not drink wine with a song: the drink shall be bitter to them that drink it.

¹³ Upon the land of my people shall thorns and briers come up: how much more upon all the houses of joy, of the city that rejoiced?

³³ Joy and gladness is taken away from Carmel, and from the land of Moab, and I have taken away the wine out of the presses: the treader of the grapes shall not sing the accustomed cheerful tune.

¹⁴ The ancients have ceased from the gates: the young men from the choir of the singers. ¹⁵ The joy of our heart is ceased, our dancing is turned into mourning.

¹⁴ And they have not cried to me with their heart, but they howled in their beds: they have thought upon wheat and wine, they are departed from me.

¹⁵ Ah, ah, ah, for the day: because the day of the Lord is at hand, and it shall come like destruction from the mighty.

¹⁶ Therefore thus saith the Lord the God of hosts the sovereign Lord: In every street there shall be wailing: and in all places that are without, they shall say: Alas, alas! and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful in lamentation to lament. ¹⁷ And in all vineyards there shall be wailing: because I will pass through in the midst of thee, saith the Lord. ¹⁸ Woe to them that desire the day of the Lord: to what end is it for you? the day of the Lord is darkness, and not light. ¹⁹ As if a man should flee from the face of a lion, and a bear should meet him: or enter into the house, and lean with his hand upon the wall, and a serpent should bite him. ²⁰ Shall not the day of the Lord be darkness, and not light: and obscurity, and no brightness in it?

¹¹ And the king went in to see the guests: and he saw there a man who had not on a wedding garment. ¹² And he saith to him: Friend, how camest thou in hither not having on a wedding garment? But he was silent. ¹³ Then the king said to the waiters: Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the exterior darkness. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

²⁵ And Abraham said to him: Son, remember that thou didst receive good things in thy lifetime, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted and thou art tormented.
