²³ And to the church of the firstborn who are written in the heavens, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of the just made perfect,

²⁵ Far be it from thee to do this thing, and to slay the just with the wicked, and for the just to be in like case as the wicked; this is not beseeming thee: thou who judgest all the earth, wilt not make this judgment.

²² And thou shalt say to him: Thus saith the Lord: Israel is my son, my firstborn.

² Sanctify unto me every firstborn that openeth the womb among the children of Israel, as well of men as of beasts: for they are all mine.

³² Or if thou do not, strike me out of the book that thou hast written.

¹⁷ But he shall acknowledge the son of the hated for the firstborn, and shall give him a double portion of all he hath: for this is the first of his children, and to him are due the first birthrights.

⁵ Gather ye together his saints to him: who set his covenant before sacrifices. ⁶ And the heavens shall declare his justice: for God is judge.

²⁰ But yet rejoice not in this, that spirits are subject unto you: but rejoice in this, that your names are written in heaven.

²⁷ And he hath given him power to do judgment, because he is the Son of man.

²⁸ Take heed to yourselves and to the whole flock, wherein the Holy Ghost hath placed you bishops, to rule the Church of God which he hath purchased with his own blood.

²² And he hath subjected all things under his feet and hath made him head over all the church,

²⁴ Therefore as the church is subject to Christ: so also let the wives be to their husbands in all things. ²⁵ Husbands, love your wives, as Christ also loved the church and delivered himself up for it: ²⁶ That he might sanctify it, cleansing it by the laver of water in the word of life: ²⁷ That he might present it to himself, a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

²¹ For to me, to live is Christ: and to die is gain. ²² And if to live in the flesh: this is to me the fruit of labour. And what I shall choose I know not. ²³ But I am straitened between two: having a desire to be dissolved and to be with Christ, a thing by far the better.

¹² Not as though I had already attained, or were already perfect: but I follow after, if I may by any means apprehend, wherein I am also apprehended by Christ Jesus. ¹³ Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended. But one thing I do: Forgetting the things that are behind and stretching forth myself to those that are before, ¹⁴ I press towards the mark, to the prize of the supernal vocation of God in Christ Jesus. ¹⁵ Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing you be otherwise minded, this also God will reveal to you, ¹⁶ Nevertheless, whereunto we are come, that we be of the same mind, let us also continue in the same rule. ¹⁷ Be ye followers of me, brethren: and observe them who walk so as you have our model. ¹⁸ For many walk, of whom I have told you often (and now tell you weeping) that they are enemies of the cross of Christ: ¹⁹ Whose end is destruction: whose God is their belly: and whose glory is in their shame: who mind earthly things. ²⁰ But our conversation is in heaven: from whence also we look for the Saviour, our Lord Jesus Christ, ²¹ Who will reform the body of our lowness, made like to the body of his glory, according to the operation whereby also he is able to subdue all things unto himself.

³ And I entreat thee also, my sincere companion, help those women who have laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement and the rest of my fellow labourers, whose names are in the book of life.

¹² Giving thanks to God the Father, who hath made us worthy to be partakers of the lot of the saints in light:

²⁴ Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you and fill up those things that are wanting of the sufferings of Christ, in my flesh, for his body, which is the church:

⁵ For an example of the just judgment of God, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which also you suffer. ⁶ Seeing it is a just thing with God to repay tribulation to them that trouble you: ⁷ And to you who are troubled, rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with the angels of his power:

⁵ But if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?

¹⁰ For God is not unjust, that he should forget your work and the love which you have shewn in his name, you who have ministered and do minister to the saints. ¹¹ And we desire that every one of you shew forth the same carefulness to the accomplishing of hope unto the end: ¹² That you become not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience shall inherit the promises.

²⁷ And as it is appointed unto men once to die, and after this the judgment:

⁴ By faith Abel offered to God a sacrifice exceeding that of Cain, by which he obtained a testimony that he was just, God giving testimony to his gifts. And by it he being dead yet speaketh.

⁴⁰ God providing some better thing for us, that they should not be perfected without us.

¹⁸ For of his own will hath he begotten us by the word of truth, that we might be some beginning of his creature.

²³ Who, when he was reviled, did not revile: when he suffered, he threatened not, but delivered himself to him that judged him unjustly.

¹⁴ And I said to him: My Lord, thou knowest. And he said to me: These are they who are come out of great tribulation and have washed their robes and have made them white in the blood of the Lamb. ¹⁵ Therefore, they are before the throne of God: and they serve him day and night in his temple. And he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell over them. ¹⁶ They shall no more hunger nor thirst: neither shall the sun fall on them, nor any heat. ¹⁷ For the Lamb, which is in the midst of the throne, shall rule them and shall lead them to the fountains of the waters of life: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

⁸ And all that dwell upon the earth adored him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb which was slain from the beginning of the world.

⁴ These are they who were not defiled with women: for they are virgins. These follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were purchased from among men, the firstfruits to God and to the Lamb.

¹⁵ And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the pool of fire.
