⁹ And Moses wrote this law, and delivered it to the priests the sons of Levi, who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and to all the ancients of Israel.

¹⁵ And when Aaron and his sons have wrapped up the sanctuary and the vessels thereof at the removing of the camp, then shall the sons of Caath enter in to carry the things wrapped up: and they shall not touch the vessels of the sanctuary, lest they die. These are the burdens of the sons of Caath: in the tabernacle of the covenant:

² Which Moses wrote down according to the places of their encamping, which they changed by the commandment of the Lord.

¹⁸ But after he is raised to the throne of his kingdom, he shall copy out to himself the Deuteronomy of this law in a volume, taking the copy of the priests of the Levitical tribe,

²² Moses therefore wrote the canticle, and taught it to the children of Israel. ²³ And the Lord commanded Josue the son of Nun, and said: Take courage, and be valiant: for thou shalt bring the children of Israel into the land which I have promised, and I will be with thee. ²⁴ Therefore after Moses had wrote the words of this law in a volume, and finished it: ²⁵ He commanded the Levites, who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, saying: ²⁶ Take this book, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God: that it may be there for a testimony against thee.

²⁸ Gather unto me all the ancients of your tribes, and your doctors, and I will speak these words in their hearing, and will call heaven and earth to witness against them.

³ And began to proclaim: When you shall see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the priests of the race of Levi carrying it, rise you up also, and follow them as they go before:

¹⁴ So the people went out of their tents, to pass over the Jordan: and the priests that carried the ark of the covenant, went on before them. ¹⁵ And as soon as they came into the Jordan, and their feet were dipped in part of the water, (now the Jordan, it being harvest time, had filled the banks of its channel,) ¹⁶ The waters that came down from above stood in one place, and swelling up like a mountain, were seen afar off, from the city that is called Adom, to the place of Sarthan: but those that were beneath, ran down into the sea of the wilderness, (which now is called the Dead Sea) until they wholly failed. ¹⁷ And the people marched over against Jericho: and the priests that carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, stood girded upon the dry ground in the midst of the Jordan, and all the people passed over, through the channel that was dried up.

¹² And Josue rising before day, the priests took the ark of the Lord,

³ And a]l the ancients of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark,

² Then David said: No one ought to carry the ark of God, but the Levites, whom the Lord hath chosen to carry it, and to minister unto himself for ever.

¹² And he said to them: You that are the heads of the Levitical families, be sanctified with your brethren, and bring the ark of the Lord the God of Israel to the place, which is prepared for it: ¹³ Lest as the Lord at first struck us, because you were not present, the same should now also come to pass, by our doing some thing against the law. ¹⁴ So the priests and the Levites were sanctified, to carry the ark of the Lord the God of Israel. ¹⁵ And the sons of Levi took the ark of God as Moses had commanded, according to the word of the Lord, upon their shoulders, with the staves.

¹³ As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: and we entreated not thy face, O Lord our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and think on thy truth.

⁶ My people have been silent, because they had no knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will reject thee, that thou shalt not do the office of priesthood to me: and thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children.

⁷ For the lips of the priests shall keep knowledge, and they shall seek the law at his mouth: because he is the angel of the Lord of hosts.

⁴ Remember the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel, the precepts, and judgments.

⁴ Who said: Moses permitted to write a bill of divorce and to put her away. ⁵ To whom Jesus answering, said: Because of the hardness of your heart, he wrote you that precept.

¹⁹ Master, Moses wrote unto us that if any man's brother die and leave his wife behind him and leave no children, his brother should take his wife and raise up seed to his brother.

²⁸ Saying: Master, Moses wrote unto us: If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he leave no children, that his brother should take her to wife and raise up seed unto his brother.

¹⁷ For the law was given by Moses: grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

⁴⁵ Philip findeth Nathanael and saith to him: We have found him of whom Moses, in the law and the prophets did write, Jesus the son of Joseph of Nazareth.

⁴⁶ For if you did believe Moses, you would perhaps believe me also: for he wrote of me.
