² Mind the things that are above, not the things that are upon the earth.

¹⁹ Give therefore your hearts and your souls, to seek the Lord your God and arise, and build a sanctuary to the Lord God, that the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and the vessels consecrated to the Lord, may be brought into the house, which is built to the name of the Lord.

³ Now over and above the things which I have offered into the house of my God I give of my own proper goods, gold and silver for the temple of my God, beside what things I have prepared for the holy house.

^{11 (49:12)} And their sepulchres shall be their houses for ever. Their dwelling places to all generations: they have called their lands by their names. ^{12 (49:13)} And man when he was in honour did not understand; he is compared to senseless beasts, and is become like to them. ^{13 (49:14)} This way of theirs is a stumblingblock to them: and afterwards they shall delight in their mouth. ^{14 (49:15)} They are laid in hell like sheep: death shall feed upon them. And the just shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their help shall decay in hell from their glory. ^{15 (49:16)} But God will redeem my soul from the hand of hell, when he shall receive me. ^{16 (49:17)} Be not thou afraid, when a man shall be made rich, and when the glory of his house shall be increased. ^{17 (49:18)} For when he shall die he shall take nothing away; nor shall his glory descend with him.

¹⁴ Because he hoped in me I will deliver him: I will protect him because he hath known my name.

³⁶ Incline my heart into thy testimonies and not to covetousness. ³⁷ Turn away my eyes that they may not behold vanity: quicken me in thy way.

⁵ Lift not up thy eyes to riches which thou canst not have: because they shall make themselves wings like those of an eagle, and shall fly towards heaven.

¹⁹ Lay not up to yourselves treasures on earth: where the rust, and moth consume, and where thieves break through, and steal.

²³ Who turning, said to Peter: Go behind me, Satan, thou art a scandal unto me: because thou savourest not the things that are of God, but the things that are of men.

¹⁵ And he said to them: Take heed and beware of all covetousness: for a man's life doth not consist in the abundance of things which he possesseth.

⁸ And the lord commended the unjust steward, forasmuch as he had done wisely: for the children of this world are wiser in their generation than the children of light. ⁹ And I say to you: Make unto you friends of the mammon of iniquity: that when you shall fail, they may receive you into everlasting dwellings.

¹¹ If then you have not been faithful in the unjust mammon, who will trust you with that which is the true?

¹⁹ There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and feasted sumptuously every day. ²⁰ And there was a certain beggar, named Lazarus, who lay at his gate, full of sores, ²¹ Desiring to be filled with the crumbs that fell from the rich man's table. And no one did give him: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. ²² And it came to pass that the beggar died and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom. And the rich man also died: and he was buried in hell. ²³ And lifting up his eyes when he was in torments, he saw Abraham afar off and Lazarus in his bosom: ²⁴ And he cried and said: Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water to cool my tongue: for I am tormented in this flame. ²⁵ And Abraham said to him: Son, remember that thou didst receive good things in thy lifetime, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted and thou art tormented.

⁴ That the justification of the law might be fulfilled in us who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the spirit. ⁵ For they that are according to the flesh mind the things that are of the flesh: but they that are according to the spirit mind the things that are of the spirit. ⁶ For the wisdom of the flesh is death: but the wisdom of the spirit is life and peace.

²³ But I am straitened between two: having a desire to be dissolved and to be with Christ, a thing by far the better.

¹⁹ Whose end is destruction: whose God is their belly: and whose glory is in their shame: who mind earthly things. ²⁰ But our conversation is in heaven: from whence also we look for the Saviour, our Lord Jesus Christ,

¹ Therefore if you be risen with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God.

⁵ Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth: fornication, uncleanness, lust, evil concupiscence and covetousness, which is the service of idols.

¹⁵ Love not the world, nor the things which are in the world. If any man love the world, the charity of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world is the concupiscence of the flesh and the concupiscence of the eyes and the pride of life, which is not of the Father but is of the world. ¹⁷ And the world passeth away and the concupiscence thereof: but he that doth the will of God abideth for ever.
