³⁰ And God indeed having winked at the times of this ignorance, now declareth unto men that all should every where do penance.

²¹ These things hast thou done, and I was silent. Thou thoughtest unjustly that I should be like to thee: but I will reprove thee, and set before thy face.

² And saying: Do penance: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

¹⁷ From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say: Do penance, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

¹⁵ And saying: The time is accomplished and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe the gospel:

¹² And going forth they preached men should do penance:

⁵ No, I say to you: but except you do penance, you shall all likewise perish.

¹⁰ So I say to you, there shall be joy before the angels of God upon one sinner doing penance.

⁴⁷ And that penance and remission of sins should be preached in his name, unto all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

¹⁹ Be penitent, therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out.

¹⁸ Having heard these things, they held their peace and glorified God, saying: God then hath also to the Gentiles given repentance, unto life.

²³ For passing by and seeing your idols, I found an altar also, on which was written: To the Unknown God. What therefore you worship without knowing it, that I preach to you:

²¹ Testifying both to Jews and Gentiles penance towards God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁷ Delivering thee from the people and from the nations unto which now I send thee: ¹⁸ To open their eyes, that they may be converted from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a lot among the saints, by the faith that is in me. ¹⁹ Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not incredulous to the heavenly vision. ²⁰ But to them first that are at Damascus and at Jerusalem, and unto all the country of Judea, and to the Gentiles did I preach, that they should do penance and turn to God, doing works worthy of penance.

²⁸ And as they liked not to have God in their knowledge, God delivered them up to a reprobate sense, to do those things which are not convenient.

⁴ Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and patience and longsuffering? Knowest thou not that the benignity of God leadeth thee to penance?

²³ For all have sinned and do need the glory of God.

²⁵ Whom God hath proposed to be a propitiation, through faith in his blood, to the shewing of his justice, for the remission of former sins,

¹⁰ For the sorrow that is according to God worketh penance, steadfast unto salvation: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

¹⁷ This then I say and testify in the Lord: That henceforward you walk not as also the Gentiles walk in the vanity of their mind: ¹⁸ Having their understanding darkened: being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their hearts. ¹⁹ Who despairing have given themselves up to lasciviousness, unto the working of all uncleanness, unto covetousness. ²⁰ But you have not so learned Christ: ²¹ If so be that you have heard him and have been taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus: ²² To put off, according to former conversation, the old man, who is corrupted according to the desire of error. ²³ And be renewed in spirit of your mind: ²⁴ And put on the new man, who according to God is created in justice and holiness of truth. ²⁵ Wherefore, putting away lying, speak ye the truth, every man with his neighbour. For we are members one of another. ²⁶ Be angry: and sin not. Let not the sun go down upon your anger. ²⁷ Give not place to the devil. ²⁸ He that stole, let him now steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have something to give to him that suffereth need. ²⁹ Let no evil speech proceed from your mouth: but that which is good, to the edification of faith: that it may administer grace to the hearers. ³⁰ And grieve not the holy Spirit of God: whereby you are sealed unto the day of redemption. ³¹ Let all bitterness and anger and indignation and clamour and blasphemy be put away from you, with all malice. ³² And be ye kind one to another: merciful, forgiving one another, even as God hath forgiven you in Christ.

⁶ Let no man deceive you with vain words. For because of these things cometh the anger of God upon the children of unbelief. ⁷ Be ye not therefore partakers with them. ⁸ For you were heretofore darkness, but now light in the Lord. Walk then as children of the light.

¹¹ For the grace of God our Saviour hath appeared to all men: ¹² Instructing us, that, denying ungodliness and worldly desires, we should live soberly and justly and godly in this world,

¹⁴ As children of obedience, not fashioned according to the former desires of your ignorance, ¹⁵ But according to him that hath called you, who is holy, be you also in all manner of conversation holy:

³ For the time past is sufficient to have fulfilled the will of the Gentiles, for them who have walked in riotousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings and unlawful worshipping of idols.
