⁴⁵ And the Jews, seeing the multitudes, were filled with envy and contradicted those things which were said by Paul, blaspheming.

¹¹ His brethren therefore envied him: but his father considered the thing with himself.

²⁹ But he said: Why hast thou emulation for me? O that all the people might prophesy, and that the Lord would give them his spirit!

⁴ Again I considered all the labours of men, and I remarked that their industries are exposed to the envy of their neighbour: so in this also there is vanity, and fruitless care.

¹¹ Lord, let thy hand be exalted, and let them not see: let the envious people see, and be confounded: and let fire devour thy enemies.

¹³ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you shut the kingdom of heaven against men: for you yourselves do not enter in and those that are going in, you suffer not to enter.

¹⁸ For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.

¹⁷ Then the high priest rising up, and all they that were with him (which is the heresy of the Sadducees) were filled with envy.

⁹ Now there arose some, of that which is called the synagogue of the Libertines and of the Cyrenians and of the Alexandrians and of them that were of Cilicia and Asia, disputing with Stephen. ¹⁰ And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit that spoke.

²⁹ Being filled with all iniquity, malice, fornication, avarice, wickedness: full of envy, murder, contention, deceit, malignity: whisperers,

³ For, whereas there is among you envying and contention, are you not carnal and walk you not according to man?

²¹ Envies, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like. Of the which I foretell you, as I have foretold to you, that they who do such things shall not obtain the kingdom of God.

¹⁶ Prohibiting us to speak to the Gentiles, that they may be saved, to fill up their sins always: for the wrath of God is come upon them to the end.

¹⁴ But if you have bitter zeal, and there be contention in your hearts: glory not and be not liars against the truth. ¹⁵ For this is not wisdom, descending from above: but earthly, sensual, devilish. ¹⁶ For where envying and contention is: there is inconstancy and every evil work.

⁵ Or do you think that the scripture saith in vain: To envy doth the spirit covet which dwelleth in you?

⁴ Wherein they think it strange that you run not with them into the same confusion of riotousness: speaking evil of you.

¹⁰ But these men blaspheme whatever things they know not: and what things soever they naturally know, like dumb beasts, in these they are corrupted.
