² As the roaring of a lion, so also is the dread of a king: he that provoketh him, sinneth against his own soul.

¹⁵ As a roaring lion, and a hungry bear, so is a wicked prince over the poor people.

¹⁰ Fear not, for I am with thee: turn not aside, for I am thy God: I have strengthened thee, and have helped thee, and the right hand of my just one hath upheld thee.

¹⁴ Fear not, thou worm of Jacob, you that are dead of Israel: I have helped thee, saith the Lord: and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel.

³⁰ In vain have I struck your children, they have not received correction: your sword hath devoured your prophets, your generation is like a ravaging lion.

²⁰ And I will make thee to this people as a strong wall of brass: and they shall fight against thee, and shall not prevail: for I am with thee to save thee, and to deliver thee, saith the Lord. ²¹ And I will deliver thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem thee out of the hand of the mighty.

¹⁰ For I heard the reproaches of many, and terror on every side: Persecute him, and let us persecute him: from all the men that were my familiars, and continued at my side: if by any means he may be deceived, and we may prevail against him, and be revenged on him. ¹¹ But the Lord is with me as a strong warrior: therefore they that persecute me shall fall, and shall be weak: they shall be greatly confounded, because they have not understood the everlasting reproach, which never shall be effaced.

²² My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut up the mouths of the lions, and they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him justice hath been found in me: yea, and before thee, O king, I have done no offence.

²⁷ He is the deliverer, and saviour, doing signs and wonders in heaven, and in earth: who hath delivered Daniel out of the lions' den.

¹⁹ But when they shall deliver you up, take no thought how or what to speak: for it shall be given you in that hour what to speak:

¹⁵ For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to resist and gainsay.

¹⁵ And the Lord said to him: Go thy way: for this man is to me a vessel of election, to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel.

⁹ And the Lord said to Paul in the night, by a vision: Do not fear, but speak. And hold not thy peace, ¹⁰ Because I am with thee and no man shall set upon thee, to hurt thee. For I have much people in this city.

¹¹ And the night following, the Lord standing by him, said: Be constant: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.

¹⁷ Delivering thee from the people and from the nations unto which now I send thee: ¹⁸ To open their eyes, that they may be converted from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a lot among the saints, by the faith that is in me.

²³ For an angel of God, whose I am and whom I serve, stood by me this night, ²⁴ Saying: Fear not, Paul, thou must be brought before Caesar; and behold, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.

²⁵ Now to him that is able to establish you, according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery which was kept secret from eternity; ²⁶ (Which now is made manifest by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the precept of the eternal God, for the obedience of faith) known among all nations:

⁹ And he said to me: My grace is sufficient for thee: for power is made perfect in infirmity. Gladly therefore will I glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

⁸ To me, the least of all the saints, is given this grace, to preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ:

¹² Now, brethren, I desire you should know that the things which have happened to me have fallen out rather to the furtherance of the gospel: ¹³ So that my bands are made manifest in Christ, in all the court and in all other places. ¹⁴ And many of the brethren in the Lord, growing confident by my bands, are much more bold to speak the word of God without fear.

¹² I give him thanks who hath strengthened me, even to Christ Jesus our Lord, for that he hath counted me faithful, putting me in the ministry:

¹¹ Persecutions, afflictions: such as came upon me at Antioch, at Iconium and at Lystra: what persecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord delivered me.

³³ Who by faith conquered kingdoms, wrought justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,

⁸ Be sober and watch: because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, goeth about seeking whom he may devour.

⁹ The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly from temptation, but to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be tormented:
