¹⁵ But sanctify the Lord Christ in your hearts, being ready always to satisfy every one that asketh you a reason of that hope which is in you.

¹² And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron: Because you have not believed me, to sanctify me before the children of Israel, you shall not bring these people into the land, which I will give them.

¹⁴ Because you offended me in the desert of Sin in the contradiction of the multitude, neither would you sanctify me before them at the waters. These are the waters of contradiction in Cades of the desert of Sin.

⁷ Now, therefore, stand up, that I may plead in judgment against you before the Lord, concerning all the kindness of the Lord, which he hath shewn to you, and to your fathers:

¹⁸ And you shall be brought before governors, and before kings for my sake, for a testimony to them and to the Gentiles: ¹⁹ But when they shall deliver you up, take no thought how or what to speak: for it shall be given you in that hour what to speak: ²⁰ For it is not you that speak, but the spirit of your Father that speaketh in you.

¹⁴ Lay it up therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before how you shall answer: ¹⁵ For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to resist and gainsay.

⁸ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said to them: Ye princes of the people and ancients, hear. ⁹ If we this day are examined concerning the good deed done to the infirm man, by what means he hath been made whole: ¹⁰ Be it known to you all and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God hath raised from the dead, even by him, this man standeth here before you, whole. ¹¹ This is the stone which was rejected by you the builders, which is become the head of the corner. ¹² Neither is there salvation in any other. For there is no other name under heaven given to men, whereby we must be saved.

²⁹ But Peter and the apostles answering, said: We ought to obey God rather than men. ³⁰ The God of our fathers hath raised up Jesus, whom you put to death, hanging him upon a tree. ³¹ Him hath God exalted with his right hand, to be Prince and Saviour. to give repentance to Israel and remission of sins.

³⁹ But Paul said to him: I am a Jew of Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city. And I beseech thee, suffer me to speak to the people.

²⁵ And as he treated of justice and chastity and of the judgment to come, Felix, being terrified, answered: For this time, go thy way: but when I have a convenient time, I will send for thee.

⁵ For the hope that is laid up for you in heaven, which you have heard in the word of the truth of the gospel,

²³ If so ye continue in the faith, grounded and settled, and immoveable from the hope of the gospel which you have heard, which is preached in all the creation that is under heaven: whereof I Paul am made a minister.

²⁷ To whom God would make known the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ, in you the hope of glory.

⁶ Let your speech be always in grace seasoned with salt: that you may know how you ought to answer every man.

²⁵ With modesty admonishing them that resist the truth: if peradventure God may give them repentance to know the truth; ²⁶ And they may recover themselves from the snares of the devil by whom they are held captive at his will.

² Unto the hope of life everlasting, which God, who lieth not, hath promised before the times of the world:

⁶ But Christ, as the Son in his own house: which house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and glory of hope unto the end.

¹ Wherefore, leaving the word of the beginning of Christ, let us go on to things more perfect: not laying again the foundation of penance from dead works and of faith towards God,

¹⁸ That by two immutable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have the strongest comfort, we who have fled for refuge to hold fast the hope set before us. ¹⁹ Which we have as an anchor of the soul, sure and firm, and which entereth in even within the veil:

³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy hath regenerated us unto a lively hope, by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead: ⁴ Unto an inheritance, incorruptible, and undefiled and that cannot fade, reserved in heaven for you,

¹⁷ And if you invoke as Father him who, without respect of persons, judgeth according to every one's work: converse in fear during the time of your sojourning here.

² Considering your chaste conversation with fear.

⁴ But the hidden man of the heart, in the incorruptibility of a quiet and a meek spirit which is rich in the sight of God.
