²⁷ Is it then to be thought that God should indeed dwell upon earth? for if heaven, and the heavens of heavens, cannot contain thee, how much less this house which I have built?

¹⁴ Behold heaven is the Lord's thy God, and the heaven of heaven, the earth and all things that are therein.

⁶ Who then can be able to build him a worthy house? if heaven, and the heavens of heavens cannot contain him: who am I that I should be able to build him a house? but to this end only, that incense may be burnt before him.

¹⁸ Is it credible then that God should dwell with men on the earth? If heaven and the heavens of heavens do not contain thee, how much less this house, which I have built?

⁴ The Lord is high above all nations; and his glory above the heavens.

⁷ Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy face? ⁸ If I ascend into heaven, thou art there: if I descend into hell, thou art present. ⁹ If I take my wings early in the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea: ¹⁰ Even there also shall thy hand lead me: and thy right hand shall hold me. ¹¹ And I said: Perhaps darkness shall cover me: and night shall be my light in my pleasures. ¹² But darkness shall not be dark to thee, and night shall be light all the day: the darkness thereof, and the light thereof are alike to thee. ¹³ For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast protected me from my mother's womb. ¹⁴ I will praise thee, for thou art fearfully magnified: wonderful are thy works, and my soul knoweth right well. ¹⁵ My bone is not hidden from thee, which thou hast made in secret: and my substance in the lower parts of the earth. ¹⁶ Thy eyes did see my imperfect being, and in thy book all shall be written: days shall be formed, and no one in them.

¹ Thus saith the Lord: Heaven is my throne, and the earth my footstool: what is this house that you will build to me? and what is this place of my rest?

²⁴ Shall a man be hid in secret places, and I not see him, saith the Lord? do not I fill heaven and earth, saith the Lord?

¹⁴ And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us (and we saw his glory, the glory as it were of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth.

⁴⁸ Yet the most High dwelleth not in houses made by hands, as the prophet saith: ⁴⁹ Heaven is my throne and the earth my footstool. What house will you build me (saith the Lord)? Or what is the place of my resting?

²⁴ God, who made the world and all things therein, he being Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands.

¹⁶ And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God: as God saith: I will dwell in them and walk among them. And I will be their God: and they shall be my people.

² I know a man in Christ: above fourteen years ago (whether in the body, I know not, or out of the body, I know not: God knoweth), such a one caught up to the third heaven.

¹ Behold what manner of charity the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called and should be the sons of God. Therefore the world knoweth not us, because it knew not him.
