For the fashion of this world passeth away. ³² But I would have you to be without solicitude. He that is without a wife is solicitous for the things that belong to the Lord: how he may please God. ³³ But he that is with a wife is solicitous for the things of the world: how he may please his wife. And he is divided. ³⁴ And the unmarried woman and the virgin thinketh on the things of the Lord: that she may be holy both in body and in spirit. But she that is married thinketh on the things of the world: how she may please her husband. ³⁵ And this I speak for your profit, not to cast a snare upon you, but for that which is decent and which may give you power to attend upon the Lord, without impediment. ³⁶ But if any man think that he seemeth dishonoured with regard to his virgin, for that she is above the age, and it must so be: let him do what he will. He sinneth not if she marry. ³⁷ For he that hath determined, being steadfast in his heart, having no necessity, but having power of his own will: and hath judged this in his heart, to keep his virgin, doth well. ³⁸ Therefore both he that giveth his virgin in marriage doth well: and he that giveth her not doth better. ³⁹ A woman is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth: but if her husband die, she is at liberty. Let her marry to whom she will: only in the Lord. ⁴⁰ But more blessed shall she be, if she so remain, according to my counsel. And I think that I also have the spirit of God.

For your Father knoweth that you have need of all these things. ³³ Seek ye therefore first the kingdom of God, and his justice, and all these things shall be added unto you. ³⁴ Be not therefore solicitous for to morrow; for the morrow will be solicitous for itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof.

²⁵ Husbands, love your wives, as Christ also loved the church and delivered himself up for it: ²⁶ That he might sanctify it, cleansing it by the laver of water in the word of life: ²⁷ That he might present it to himself, a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. ²⁸ So also ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. ⁵ But if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?

³ Forbidding to marry, to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving by the faithful and by them that have known the truth.

¹ Whosoever are servants under the yoke, let them count their masters worthy of all honour; lest the name of the Lord and his doctrine be blasphemed. ² But they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but serve them the rather, because they are faithful and beloved, who are partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort. ³ If any man teach otherwise and consent not to the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and to that doctrine which is according to godliness,

¹⁷ Charge the rich of this world not to be highminded nor to trust in the uncertainty of riches, but in the living God (who giveth us abundantly all things to enjoy) ¹⁸ To do good, to be rich in good work, to give easily, to communicate to others,

¹⁵ All things are clean to the clean: but to them that are defiled and to unbelievers, nothing is clean: but both their mind and their conscience are defiled.

³ The aged women, in like manner, in holy attire, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teaching well:

¹⁴ Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity and might cleanse to himself a people acceptable, a pursuer of good works.

⁸ It is a faithful saying. And these things I will have thee affirm constantly, that they who believe in God may be careful to excel in good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

¹⁶ Not now as a servant, but instead of a servant, a most dear brother, especially to me. But how much more to thee, both in the flesh and in the Lord?

¹⁴ Follow peace with all men and holiness: without which no man shall see God.

⁴ Marriage honourable in all, and the bed undefiled. For fornicators and adulterers God will judge. ⁵ Let your manners be without covetousness, contented with such things as you have. For he hath said: I will not leave thee: neither will I forsake thee.

¹³ But who art thou that judgest thy neighbour? Behold, now you that say: To-day or to-morrow we will go into such a city, and there we will spend a year and will traffic and make our gain. ¹⁴ Whereas you know not what shall be on the morrow.

You have stored up to yourselves wrath against the last days. ⁴ Behold the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which by fraud has been kept back by you, crieth: and the cry of them hath entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. ⁵ You have feasted upon earth: and in riotousness you have nourished your hearts, in the day of slaughter.

¹⁹ My brethren, if any of you err from the truth and one convert him: ²⁰ He must know that he who causeth a sinner to be converted from the error of his way shall save his soul from death and shall cover a multitude of sins.

¹⁸ Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, as gold or silver, from your vain conversation of the tradition of your fathers: ¹⁹ But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb unspotted and undefiled

²⁴ For all flesh is as grass and all the glory thereof as the flower of grass. The grass is withered and the flower thereof is fallen away.

¹⁶ As free and not as making liberty a cloak for malice, but as the servants of God.

¹⁸ Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle but also to the froward. ¹⁹ For this is thankworthy: if, for conscience towards God, a man endure sorrows, suffering wrongfully. ²⁰ For what glory is it, if, committing sin and being buffeted for it, you endure? But if doing well you suffer patiently: this is thankworthy before God. ²¹ For unto this are you called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving you an example that you should follow his steps. ²² Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth. ²³ Who, when he was reviled, did not revile: when he suffered, he threatened not, but delivered himself to him that judged him unjustly. ²⁴ Who his own self bore our sins in his body upon the tree: that we, being dead to sins, should live to justice: by whose stripes you were healed.

¹ In like manner also, let wives be subject to their husbands: that, if any believe not the word, they may be won without the word, by the conversation of the wives, ² Considering your chaste conversation with fear.

⁷ Ye husbands, likewise dwelling with them according to knowledge, giving honour to the female as to the weaker vessel and as to the co-heirs of the grace of life: that your prayers be not hindered.

¹⁸ Because Christ also died once for our sins, the just for the unjust: that he might offer us to God, being put to death indeed in the flesh, but enlivened in the spirit,

⁷ But the end of all is at hand. Be prudent therefore and watch in prayers.

¹⁰ As every man hath received grace, ministering the same one to another: as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. ¹¹ If any man speak, let him speak, as the words of God. If any minister, let him do it, as of the power which God administereth: that in all things God may be honoured through Jesus Christ: to whom is glory and empire for ever and ever. Amen.

¹⁷ For the time is, that judgment should begin at the house of God. And if at first at us, what shall be the end of them that believe not the gospel of God?

³ And by this we know that we have known him, if we keep his commandments. ⁴ He who saith that he knoweth him and keepeth not his commandments is a liar: and the truth is not in him.

¹⁷ And the world passeth away and the concupiscence thereof: but he that doth the will of God abideth for ever.

²² And whatsoever we shall ask, we shall receive of him: because we keep his commandments and do those things which are pleasing in his sight. ²³ And this is his commandment: That we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as he hath given commandment unto us. ²⁴ And he that keepeth his commandments abideth in him, and he in him. And in this we know that he abideth in us by the Spirit which he hath given us.

² In this we know that we love the children of God: when we love God and keep his commandments. ³ For this is the charity of God: That we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not heavy.

¹⁷ For the Lamb, which is in the midst of the throne, shall rule them and shall lead them to the fountains of the waters of life: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

⁷ As much as she hath glorified herself and lived in delicacies, so much torment and sorrow give ye to her. Because she saith in her heart: I sit a queen and am no widow: and sorrow I shall not see.

¹⁴ Blessed are they that wash their robes in the blood of the Lamb: that they may have a right to the tree of life and may enter in by the gates into the city.
