¹ {A Song of degrees.} In my trouble I called unto Jehovah, and he answered me. ² Jehovah, deliver my soul from the lying lip, from the deceitful tongue. ³ What shall be given unto thee, what shall be added unto thee, thou deceitful tongue? ⁴ Sharp arrows of a mighty one, with burning coals of broom-wood. ⁵ Woe is me, that I sojourn in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar! ⁶ My soul hath long dwelt with them that hate peace. ⁷ I [am for] peace; but when I speak, *they* [are] for war.

² The sons of Japheth: Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.

¹³ And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael by their names according to their generations: Nebaioth, the firstborn of Ishmael; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam,

²³ I will heap mischiefs upon them; Mine arrows will I spend against them. ²⁴ They shall be consumed with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, And with poisonous pestilence; And the teeth of beasts will I send against them, With the poison of what crawleth in the dust.

³⁰ And Saul`s anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said to him, Son of the perverse rebellious woman, do not I know that thou hast chosen the son of Jesse to thine own shame and to the shame of thy mother`s nakedness? ³¹ For as long as the son of Jesse lives upon earth, thou shalt not be established, nor thy kingdom. And now send and fetch him to me, for he must die. ³² And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said to him, Why should he be put to death? what has he done? ³³ Then Saul cast the spear at him to smite him; and Jonathan knew that it was determined by his father to put David to death.

⁹ And David said to Saul, Why dost thou listen to words of men, saying, Behold, David seeks thy hurt? ¹⁰ Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that Jehovah had given thee this day into my hand in the cave; and they bade me kill thee; but [mine eye] spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth my hand against my lord, for he is the anointed of Jehovah. ¹¹ And see, my father, yes, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand. For in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe, and killed thee not, know and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in my hand, and I have not sinned against thee; yet thou liest in wait for my life to take it.

¹ And Samuel died; and all Israel were gathered together, and lamented him; and they buried him in his house at Ramah. And David arose and went down to the wilderness of Paran.

² And Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph. ³ And Saul encamped in the hill of Hachilah, which faces the waste, by the way side. And David abode in the wilderness; and when he saw that Saul had come after him into the wilderness, ⁴ David sent out spies, and learned that Saul was certainly come.

¹⁹ I am peaceable [and] faithful in Israel: thou seekest to destroy a city and a mother in Israel. Why wilt thou swallow up the inheritance of Jehovah?

⁸ For what is the hope of the ungodly, when [God] cutteth him off, when +God taketh away his soul?

¹³ And he hath prepared for him instruments of death; his arrows hath he made burning.

⁶ In my distress I called upon Jehovah, and I cried out to my God; he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, into his ears.

⁷ Jehovah, by thy favour thou hadst made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face; I was troubled. ⁸ I called to thee, Jehovah, and unto the Lord did I make supplication:

¹⁴ Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

¹¹ Unrighteous witnesses rise up; they lay to my charge things which I know not.

²⁰ For they speak not peace; and they devise deceitful words against the quiet in the land.

⁵ Thine arrows are sharp -- peoples fall under thee -- in the heart of the king`s enemies.

¹⁵ And call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

² Thy tongue deviseth mischievous things, like a sharp razor, practising deceit. ³ Thou hast loved evil rather than good, lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah. ⁴ Thou hast loved all devouring words, O deceitful tongue! ⁵ ?God shall likewise destroy thee for ever; he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of [thy] tent, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.

²⁰ He hath put forth his hands against such as are at peace with him; he hath profaned his covenant.

⁴ My soul is in the midst of lions; I lie down [among] them that breathe out flames, the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

⁷ Behold, they belch out with their mouth; swords are in their lips: for who [say they] doth hear?

² Hide not thy face from me: in the day of my trouble, incline thine ear unto me; in the day I call, answer me speedily.

¹³ Then they cried unto Jehovah in their trouble, [and] he saved them out of their distresses;

¹ {To the chief Musician. Of David. A Psalm.} O God of my praise, be not silent: ² For the mouth of the wicked [man] and the mouth of deceit are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue,

⁴ For my love they are mine adversaries; but I [give myself unto] prayer.

³ The bands of death encompassed me, and the anguish of Sheol took hold of me; I found trouble and sorrow: ⁴ Then called I upon the name of Jehovah: I beseech thee, Jehovah, deliver my soul.

⁵ I called upon Jah in distress; Jah answered me [and set me] in a large place.

¹ {A Song of degrees.} Unto thee do I lift up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.

¹ {A Song of degrees. Of David.} If it had not been Jehovah who was for us -- oh let Israel say --

¹ {A Song of degrees.} They that confide in Jehovah are as mount Zion, which cannot be moved; it abideth for ever.

¹ {A Song of degrees.} When Jehovah turned the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream.

¹ {A Song of degrees. Of Solomon.} Unless Jehovah build the house, in vain do its builders labour in it; unless Jehovah keep the city, the keeper watcheth in vain:

¹ {A Song of degrees.} Blessed is every one that feareth Jehovah, that walketh in his ways.

¹ {A Song of degrees.} Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth -- oh let Israel say --

¹ {A Song of degrees.} Out of the depths do I call upon thee, Jehovah.

¹ {A Song of degrees. Of David.} Jehovah, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty; neither do I exercise myself in great matters, and in things too wonderful for me.

¹ {A Song of degrees. Of David.} Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

¹ {A Song of degrees.} Behold, bless Jehovah, all ye servants of Jehovah, who by night stand in the house of Jehovah.

¹ {To the chief Musician. A Psalm of David.} Free me, O Jehovah, from the evil man; preserve me from the violent man: ² Who devise mischiefs in [their] heart; every day are they banded together for war. ³ They sharpen their tongues like a serpent; adders` poison is under their lips. Selah.

⁹ [As for] the head of those that encompass me, let the mischief of their own lips cover them. ¹⁰ Let burning coals fall on them; let them be cast into the fire; into deep waters, that they rise not up again. ¹¹ Let not the man of [evil] tongue be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the man of violence to [his] ruin.

⁹ With his mouth a hypocrite destroyeth his neighbour; but through knowledge are the righteous delivered.

¹² He that despiseth his neighbour is void of heart; but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.

¹⁸ The wicked worketh a deceitful work; but he that soweth righteousness hath a sure reward.

²² Lying lips are an abomination to Jehovah; but they that deal truly are his delight.

²⁷ A man of Belial diggeth up evil, and on his lips there is as a scorching fire.

⁸ The words of a talebearer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

²¹ Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

⁵ A false witness shall not be held innocent, and he that uttereth lies shall not escape.

⁹ A false witness shall not be held innocent, and he that uttereth lies shall perish.

⁵ I am black, but comely, daughters of Jerusalem, As the tents of Kedar, As the curtains of Solomon.

³ And they said to him, Thus says Hezekiah: This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of reviling; for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth. ⁴ It may be Jehovah thy God will hear the words of Rab-shakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to reproach the living God, and will rebuke the words which Jehovah thy God hath heard. Therefore lift up a prayer for the remnant that is left.

¹⁴ And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it; and Hezekiah went up into the house of Jehovah, and spread it before Jehovah. ¹⁵ And Hezekiah prayed to Jehovah, saying, ¹⁶ Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, who sittest [between] the cherubim, thou, the Same, thou alone art the God of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made the heavens and the earth. ¹⁷ Incline thine ear, O Jehovah, and hear; open, Jehovah, thine eyes, and see; and hear all the words of Sennacherib, who hath sent to reproach the living God. ¹⁸ Of a truth, Jehovah, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the lands, and their countries, ¹⁹ and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were no gods, but the work of men`s hands, wood and stone; and they have destroyed them. ²⁰ And now, Jehovah our God, save us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art Jehovah, thou only.

² And Hezekiah turned his face to the wall, and prayed to Jehovah, ³ and said, Ah, Jehovah, remember, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept much. ⁴ And the word of Jehovah came to Isaiah, saying, ⁵ Go and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of David thy father: I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add to thy days fifteen years.

⁶ A multitude of camels shall cover thee, young camels of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall publish the praises of Jehovah. ⁷ All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered unto thee, the rams of Nebaioth shall serve thee: they shall come up with acceptance on mine altar, and I will beautify the house of my magnificence.

² Oh that I had in the wilderness a traveller`s lodging-place, that I might leave my people, and go away from them! For they are all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men. ³ And they bend their tongue, their bow of falsehood, and not for fidelity are they valiant in the land; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith Jehovah.

⁶ Thy habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith Jehovah.

¹⁰ Woe is me, my mother, that thou hast borne me a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole land! I have not lent on usury, nor have they lent to me on usury; [yet] every one of them doth curse me.

²⁸ Concerning Kedar, and concerning the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote. Thus saith Jehovah: Arise, go up to Kedar, and spoil the men of the east. ²⁹ Their tents and their flocks shall they take; their curtains and all their vessels, and their camels, shall they carry away for themselves; and they shall cry unto them, Terror on every side!

⁶ And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, and be not afraid of their words; for briars and thorns are with thee, and thou dwellest among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, and be not dismayed at their faces; for they are a rebellious house.

¹³ Javan, Tubal, and Meshech, they were thy traffickers: they bartered with thee the persons of men, and vessels of bronze.

²¹ Arabia and all the princes of Kedar were the merchants of thy hand: in lambs, and rams, and goats, in these did they trade with thee.

² Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, and prophesy against him, ³ and say, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal.

¹ And thou, son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal;

² and he said: I cried by reason of my distress unto Jehovah, and he answered me; Out of the belly of Sheol cried I: thou heardest my voice.

¹ Woe is me! for I am as when they have gathered the summer-fruits, as the grape-gleanings of the vintage. There is no cluster to eat; there is no early fruit [which] my soul desired. ² The godly [man] hath perished out of the land, and there is none upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood, they hunt every man his brother with a net.

⁹ Blessed the peace-makers, for *they* shall be called sons of God.

¹⁶ Behold, *I* send you as sheep in the midst of wolves; be therefore prudent as the serpents, and guileless as the doves.

³⁶ and they of his household [shall be] a man`s enemies.

²⁶ For what does a man profit, if he should gain the whole world and suffer the loss of his soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

⁵⁹ And the chief priests and the elders and the whole sanhedrim sought false witness against Jesus, so that they might put him to death. ⁶⁰ And they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. But at the last two false witnesses came forward ⁶¹ and said, *He* said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and in three days build it. ⁶² And the high priest standing up said to him, Answerest thou nothing? What do these witness against thee?

⁴⁴ And being in conflict he prayed more intently. And his sweat became as great drops of blood, falling down upon the earth.

²¹ What fruit therefore had ye *then* in the things of which ye are *now* ashamed? for the end of *them* [is] death.

¹⁸ if possible, as far as depends on you, living in peace with all men;

¹⁴ For *he* is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of enclosure, ¹⁵ having annulled the enmity in his flesh, the law of commandments in ordinances, that he might form the two in himself into one new man, making peace; ¹⁶ and might reconcile both in one body to God by the cross, having by it slain the enmity; ¹⁷ and, coming, he has preached the glad tidings of peace to you who [were] afar off, and [the glad tidings of] peace to those [who were] nigh.

³ For we were once ourselves also without intelligence, disobedient, wandering in error, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, [and] hating one another.

⁷ Who in the days of his flesh, having offered up both supplications and entreaties to him who was able to save him out of death, with strong crying and tears; (and having been heard because of his piety;)

¹⁴ Pursue peace with all, and holiness, without which no one shall see the Lord:

⁵ Thus also the tongue is a little member, and boasts great things. See how little a fire, how large a wood it kindles! ⁶ and the tongue [is] fire, the world of unrighteousness; the tongue is set in our members, the defiler of the whole body, and which sets fire to the course of nature, and is set on fire of hell. ⁷ For every species both of beasts and of birds, both of creeping things and of sea animals, is tamed and has been tamed by the human species; ⁸ but the tongue can no one among men tame; [it is] an unsettled evil, full of death-bringing poison.

⁷ and saved righteous Lot, distressed with the abandoned conversation of the godless, ⁸ (for the righteous man through seeing and hearing, dwelling among them, tormented [his] righteous soul day after day with [their] lawless works,)

¹³ I know where thou dwellest, where the throne of Satan [is]; and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in the days in which Antipas my faithful witness [was], who was slain among you, where Satan dwells.

⁸ But to the fearful and unbelieving, [and sinners], and those who make themselves abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their part [is] in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone; which is the second death.
