¹⁹ And a scribe came up and said to him, Teacher, I will follow thee whithersoever thou mayest go.

⁶ -- this Ezra went up from Babylon; and he was a ready scribe in the law of Moses, which Jehovah the God of Israel had given. And the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of Jehovah his God upon him.

³² And the scribe said to him, Right, teacher; thou hast spoken according to [the] truth. For he is one, and there is none other besides him; ³³ and to love him with all the heart, and with all the intelligence, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one`s neighbour as one`s self, is more than all the burnt-offerings and sacrifices. ³⁴ And Jesus, seeing that he had answered intelligently, said to him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no one dared question him any more.

⁵⁷ And it came to pass as they went in the way, one said to him, I will follow thee wheresoever thou goest, Lord. ⁵⁸ And Jesus said to him, The foxes have holes and the birds of the heaven roosting-places, but the Son of man has not where he may lay his head. ⁵⁹ And he said to another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, allow me to go first and bury my father. ⁶⁰ But Jesus said to him, Suffer the dead to bury their own dead, but do *thou* go and announce the kingdom of God.

²⁵ And great crowds went with him; and, turning round, he said to them, ²⁶ If any man come to me, and shall not hate his own father and mother, and wife, and children, and brothers, and sisters, yea, and his own life too, he cannot be my disciple; ²⁷ and whoever does not carry his cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.

³³ Thus then every one of you who forsakes not all that is his own cannot be my disciple.

³³ And he said to him, Lord, with thee I am ready to go both to prison and to death. ³⁴ And he said, I tell thee, Peter, [the] cock shall not crow to-day before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

³⁶ Simon Peter says to him, Lord, where goest thou? Jesus answered him, Where I go thou canst not follow me now, but thou shalt follow me after. ³⁷ Peter says to him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thee. ³⁸ Jesus answers, Thou wilt lay down thy life for me! Verily, verily, I say to thee, The cock shall not crow till thou hast denied me thrice.

²⁰ Where [is the] wise? where scribe? where disputer of this world? has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?
