²⁸ And he said to them, A man [that is] an enemy has done this. And the bondmen said to him, Wilt thou then that we should go and gather it [up]?

⁴⁹ And John answering said, Master, we saw some one casting out demons in thy name, and we forbad him, because he follows not with us. ⁵⁰ And Jesus said to him, Forbid [him] not, for he that is not against you is for you. ⁵¹ And it came to pass when the days of his receiving up were fulfilled, that *he* stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem. ⁵² And he sent messengers before his face. And having gone they entered into a village of the Samaritans that they might make ready for him. ⁵³ And they did not receive him, because his face was [turned as] going to Jerusalem. ⁵⁴ And his disciples James and John seeing [it] said, Lord, wilt thou that we speak [that] fire come down from heaven and consume them, as also Elias did?

³ For *I*, [as] absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged as present, ⁴ [to deliver,] in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ (ye and my spirit being gathered together, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ), him that has so wrought this: ⁵ to deliver him, [I say,] [being] such, to Satan for destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. ⁶ Your boasting [is] not good. Do ye not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? ⁷ Purge out the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, according as ye are unleavened. For also our passover, Christ, has been sacrificed;

⁶ Sufficient to such a one [is] this rebuke which [has been inflicted] by the many; ⁷ so that on the contrary ye should rather shew grace and encourage, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with excessive grief. ⁸ Wherefore I exhort you to assure him of [your] love. ⁹ For to this end also I have written, that I might know, by putting you to the test, if as to everything ye are obedient. ¹⁰ But to whom ye forgive anything, *I* also; for I also, what I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, [it is] for your sakes in [the] person of Christ; ¹¹ that we might not have Satan get an advantage against us, for we are not ignorant of *his* thoughts.

¹⁴ But we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, comfort the faint-hearted, sustain the weak, be patient towards all.

²² And of some have compassion, making a difference, ²³ but others save with fear, snatching [them] out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
