¹⁷ He says to him the third time, Simon, [son] of Jonas, art thou attached to me? Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, Art thou attached to me? and said to him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I am attached to thee. Jesus says to him, Feed my sheep.

¹⁸ And she said to Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come to me to call mine iniquity to remembrance, and to slay my son?

¹⁷ And I know, my God, that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. In the uprightness of my heart have I willingly offered all these things; and now have I seen with joy thy people, which are present here, offer willingly to thee.

⁴ Doth not he see my ways, and number all my steps? ⁵ If I have walked with falsehood, and my foot hath hasted to deceit, ⁶ (Let me be weighed in an even balance, and +God will take knowledge of my blamelessness;)

⁸ Jehovah shall minister judgment to the peoples. Judge me, Jehovah, according to my righteousness, and according to mine integrity which is in me. ⁹ Oh let the wrong of the wicked come to an end, and establish thou the righteous [man]; even thou that triest the hearts and reins, the righteous God.

³ Thou hast proved my heart, thou hast visited me by night; thou hast tried me, thou hast found nothing: my thought goeth not beyond my word.

¹⁰ I Jehovah search the heart, I try the reins, even to give each one according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.

³³ for he doth not willingly afflict or grieve the children of men.

⁴⁰ And the King answering shall say to them, Verily, I say to you, Inasmuch as ye have done it to one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it to me.

⁷³ And after a little, those who stood [there], coming to [him], said to Peter, Truly *thou* too art of them, for also thy speech makes thee manifest. ⁷⁴ Then he began to curse and to swear, I know not the man. And immediately [the] cock crew. ⁷⁵ And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, who had said [to him], Before [the] cock crow thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went forth without, and wept bitterly.

⁷² And the second time a cock crew. And Peter remembered the word that Jesus said to him, Before [the] cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice; and when he thought thereon he wept.

⁶¹ And the Lord, turning round, looked at Peter; and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he said to him, Before [the] cock crow thou shalt deny me thrice. ⁶² And Peter, going forth without, wept bitterly.

²⁴ But Jesus himself did not trust himself to them, because he knew all [men], ²⁵ and that he had not need that any should testify of man, for himself knew what was in man.

⁸ for ye have the poor always with you, but me ye have not always.

³⁸ Jesus answers, Thou wilt lay down thy life for me! Verily, verily, I say to thee, The cock shall not crow till thou hast denied me thrice.

¹⁵ If ye love me, keep my commandments.

¹⁰ If ye shall keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love, as I have kept my Father`s commandments and abide in his love.

³⁰ Now we know that thou knowest all things, and hast not need that any one should demand of thee. By this we believe that thou art come from God.

⁴ Jesus therefore, knowing all things that were coming upon him, went forth and said to them, Whom seek ye?

²⁷ Peter denied therefore again, and immediately [the] cock crew.

¹⁵ When therefore they had dined, Jesus says to Simon Peter, Simon, [son] of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He says to him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I am attached to thee. He says to him, Feed my lambs. ¹⁶ He says to him again a second time, Simon, [son] of Jonas, lovest thou me? He says to him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I am attached to thee. He says to him, Shepherd my sheep.

²⁴ And they prayed, and said, Thou Lord, knower of the hearts of all, shew which one of these two thou hast chosen,

⁸ And the heart-knowing God bore them witness, giving [them] the Holy Spirit as to us also,

¹² For our boasting is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and sincerity before God, (not in fleshly wisdom but in God`s grace,) we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly towards you.

⁴ For out of much tribulation and distress of heart I wrote to you, with many tears; not that ye may be grieved, but that ye may know the love which I have very abundantly towards you. ⁵ But if any one has grieved, he has grieved, not me, but in part (that I may not overcharge [you]) all of you. ⁶ Sufficient to such a one [is] this rebuke which [has been inflicted] by the many; ⁷ so that on the contrary ye should rather shew grace and encourage, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with excessive grief.

⁸ For if also I grieved you in the letter, I do not regret [it], if even I have regretted it; for I see that that letter, if even [it were] only for a time, grieved you. ⁹ Now I rejoice, not that ye have been grieved, but that ye have been grieved to repentance; for ye have been grieved according to God, that in nothing ye might be injured by us. ¹⁰ For grief according to God works repentance to salvation, never to be regretted; but the grief of the world works death. ¹¹ For, behold, this same thing, your being grieved according to God, how much diligence it wrought in *you*, but [what] excusing [of yourselves], but [what] indignation, but [what] fear, but [what] ardent desire, but [what] zeal, but [what] vengeance: in every way ye have proved yourselves to be pure in the matter.

⁸ I do not speak as commanding [it], but through the zeal of others, and proving the genuineness of your love. ⁹ For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that for your sakes he, being rich, became poor, in order that *ye* by *his* poverty might be enriched.

³⁰ And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with which ye have been sealed for [the] day of redemption.

⁶ Wherein ye exult, for a little while at present, if needed, put to grief by various trials,

¹² Wherefore I will be careful to put you always in mind of these things, although knowing [them] and established in the present truth. ¹³ But I account it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting [you] in remembrance, ¹⁴ knowing that the putting off of my tabernacle is speedily [to take place], as also our Lord Jesus Christ has manifested to me; ¹⁵ but I will use diligence, that after my departure ye should have also, at any time, [in your power] to call to mind these things.

¹ This, a second letter, beloved, I already write to you, in [both] which I stir up, in the way of putting you in remembrance, your pure mind,

¹⁶ Hereby we have known love, because *he* has laid down his life for us; and *we* ought for the brethren to lay down [our] lives. ¹⁷ But whoso may have the world`s substance, and see his brother having need, and shut up his bowels from him, how abides the love of God in him? ¹⁸ Children, let us not love with word, nor with tongue, but in deed and in truth. ¹⁹ And hereby we shall know that we are of the truth, and shall persuade our hearts before him -- ²⁰ that if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart and knows all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, we have boldness towards God, ²² and whatsoever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments, and practise the things which are pleasing in his sight. ²³ And this is his commandment, that we believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and that we love one another, even as he has given us commandment. ²⁴ And he that keeps his commandments abides in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit which he has given to us.

⁷ for for the name have they gone forth, taking nothing of those of the nations. ⁸ *We* therefore ought to receive such, that we may be fellow-workers with the truth.

²³ and her children will I kill with death; and all the assemblies shall know that *I* am he that searches [the] reins and [the] hearts; and I will give to you each according to your works.

¹⁹ I rebuke and discipline as many as I love; be zealous therefore and repent.
