¹³ And he lodged there that night; and took of what came to his hand a gift for Esau his brother --

² And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, three men standing near him. And when he saw [them], he ran to meet them from the tent-door, and bowed himself to the earth,

²⁰ And, moreover, ye shall say, Behold, thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will propitiate him with the gift that goes before me, and afterwards I will see his face: perhaps he will accept me. ²¹ And the gift went over before him; and he himself lodged that night in the camp.

¹⁰ And Jacob said, No, I pray thee; if now I have found favour in thine eyes, then receive my gift from my hand; for therefore have I seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou hast received me with pleasure.

⁶ And Joseph, he was the governor over the land -- he it was that sold [the corn] to all the people of the land. And Joseph`s brethren came and bowed down to him, the face to the earth.

¹¹ And their father Israel said to them, If it is then so, do this: take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a gift: a little balsam and a little honey, tragacanth and ladanum, pistacia-nuts and almonds.

²⁶ When Joseph came home, they brought him the gift that was in their hand, into the house, and bowed themselves to him to the earth.

⁸ Ask thy young men, and they will tell thee. Therefore let the young men find favour in thine eyes; for we come in a good day: give, I pray thee, what thy hand may find to thy servants, and to thy son David.

²⁷ And now this blessing which thy bondmaid has brought to my lord, let it be given to the young men that follow my lord.

⁸ A gift is a precious stone in the eyes of the possessor: whithersoever it turneth it prospereth.

¹⁶ A man`s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.

⁶ Many court the favour of a noble; and every one is friend to a man that giveth.

¹⁴ A gift in secret pacifieth anger; and a present in the bosom, vehement fury.
