⁸ Better is the end of a thing than its beginning; better is a patient spirit than a proud spirit.

⁵ They that sow in tears shall reap with rejoicing: ⁶ He goeth forth and weepeth, bearing seed for scattering; he cometh again with rejoicing, bearing his sheaves.

¹⁰ By pride there only cometh contention; but with the well-advised is wisdom.

²⁹ He that is slow to anger is of great understanding; but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.

¹⁸ A furious man stirreth up contention; but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.

³² He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.

²⁵ He that is puffed up in soul exciteth contention; but he that relieth upon Jehovah shall be made fat.

²⁴ Therefore thus saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts: O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian; he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt: ²⁵ for yet a very little while, and the indignation shall be accomplished, and mine anger, in their destruction.

²⁵ But Abraham said, Child, recollect that *thou* hast fully received thy good things in thy lifetime, and likewise Lazarus evil things. But now he is comforted here, and *thou* art in suffering.

¹⁹ By your patient endurance gain your souls.

⁷ to them who, in patient continuance of good works, seek for glory and honour and incorruptibility, life eternal. ⁸ But to those that are contentious, and are disobedient to the truth, but obey unrighteousness, [there shall be] wrath and indignation,

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, fidelity,

² with all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, bearing with one another in love;

³⁶ For ye have need of endurance in order that, having done the will of God, ye may receive the promise.

⁸ *Ye* also have patience: stablish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is drawn nigh.

¹¹ Behold, we call them blessed who have endured. Ye have heard of the endurance of Job, and seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is full of tender compassion and pitiful.

¹³ Wherefore, having girded up the loins of your mind, [be] sober [and] hope with perfect stedfastness in the grace [which will be] brought to you at [the] revelation of Jesus Christ;

²⁰ For what glory [is it], if sinning and being buffeted ye shall bear [it]? but if, doing good and suffering, ye shall bear [it], this is acceptable with God. ²¹ For to this have ye been called; for Christ also has suffered for you, leaving you a model that ye should follow in his steps:

⁵ Likewise [ye] younger, be subject to [the] elder, and all of you bind on humility towards one another; for God sets himself against [the] proud, but to [the] humble gives grace. ⁶ Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in [the due] time;
