¹ And Paul, fixing his eyes on the council, said, Brethren, I have walked in all good conscience with God unto this day. ² But the high priest Ananias ordered those standing by him to smite his mouth. ³ Then Paul said to him, God will smite thee, whited wall. And *thou*, dost thou sit judging me according to the law, and breaking the law commandest me to be smitten? ⁴ And those that stood by said, Dost thou rail against the high priest of God? ⁵ And Paul said, I was not conscious, brethren, that he was high priest; for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evilly of the ruler of thy people. ⁶ But Paul, knowing that the one part [of them] were of the Sadducees and the other of the Pharisees, cried out in the council, Brethren, *I* am a Pharisee, son of Pharisees: *I* am judged concerning the hope and resurrection of [the] dead. ⁷ And when he had spoken this, there was a tumult of the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the multitude was divided. ⁸ For Sadducees say there is no resurrection, nor angel, nor spirit; but Pharisees confess both of them. ⁹ And there was a great clamour, and the scribes of the Pharisees` part rising up contended, saying, We find nothing evil in this man; and if a spirit has spoken to him, or an angel ... <sup>10</sup> And a great tumult having arisen, the chiliarch, fearing lest Paul should have been torn in pieces by them, commanded the troop to come down and take him by force from the midst of them, and to bring [him] into the fortress. <sup>11</sup> But the following night the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good courage; for as thou hast testified the things concerning me at Jerusalem, so thou must bear witness at Rome also. <sup>12</sup> And when it was day, the Jews, having banded together, put themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they should kill Paul. <sup>13</sup> And they were more than forty who had joined together in this oath; <sup>14</sup> and they went to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have cursed ourselves with a curse to taste nothing until we kill Paul. <sup>15</sup> Now therefore do ye with the council make a representation to the chiliarch so that he may bring him down to you, as about to determine more precisely what concerns him, and we, before he draws near, are ready to kill him. <sup>16</sup> But Paul`s sister`s son, having heard of the lying in wait, came and entered into the fortress and reported [it] to Paul. <sup>17</sup> And Paul, having called one of the centurions, said, Take this youth to the chiliarch, for he has something to report to him. <sup>18</sup> He therefore, having taken him with [him], led him to the chiliarch, and says, The prisoner Paul called me to [him] and asked me to lead this youth to thee, who has something to say to thee. <sup>19</sup> And the chiliarch having taken him by the hand, and having gone apart in private, inquired, What is it that thou hast to report to me? <sup>20</sup> And he said, The Jews have agreed together to make a request to thee, that thou mayest bring Paul down to-morrow into the council, as about to inquire something more precise concerning him. <sup>21</sup> Do not thou then be persuaded by them, for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, who have put themselves under a curse neither to eat nor drink till they kill him; and now they are ready waiting the promise from thee. <sup>22</sup> The chiliarch then dismissed the youth, commanding [him], Utter to no one that thou hast represented these things to me. <sup>23</sup> And having called to [him] certain two of the centurions, he said, Prepare two hundred soldiers that they may go as far as Caesarea, and seventy horsemen, and two hundred light-armed footmen, for the third hour of the night. <sup>24</sup> And [he ordered them] to provide beasts, that they might set Paul on them and carry [him] safe through to Felix the governor, <sup>25</sup> having written a letter, couched in this form: <sup>26</sup> Claudius Lysias to the most excellent governor Felix, greeting. <sup>27</sup> This man, having been taken by the Jews, and being about to be killed by them, I came up with the military and took out [of their hands], having learned that he was a Roman. <sup>28</sup> And desiring to know the charge on which they accused him, I brought him down to their council; <sup>29</sup> whom I found to be accused of questions of their law, but to have no charge laid against him [making him] worthy of death or of bonds. <sup>30</sup> But having received information of a plot about to be put in execution against the man [by the Jews], I have immediately sent him to thee, commanding also his accusers to say before thee the things that are against him. [Farewell.] <sup>31</sup> The soldiers therefore, according to what was ordered them, took Paul and brought him by night to Antipatris, <sup>32</sup> and on the morrow, having left the horsemen to go with him, returned to the fortress. <sup>33</sup> And these, having entered into Caesarea, and given up the letter to the governor, presented Paul also to him. <sup>34</sup> And having read [it], and asked of what eparchy he was, and learned that [he was] of Cilicia, <sup>35</sup> he said, I will hear thee fully when thine accusers also are arrived. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod`s praetorium.

¹⁴ Only bear a remembrance with thee of me when it goes well with thee, and deal kindly, I pray thee, with me, and make mention of me to Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house; ¹⁵ for indeed I was stolen out of the land of the Hebrews, and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.

²⁸ Thou shalt not revile the judges, nor curse a prince amongst thy people.

² Thou shalt not follow the multitude for evil; neither shalt thou answer in a cause, to go after the multitude to pervert [judgment].

¹⁵ Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment; thou shalt not respect the person of the lowly, nor honour the person of the great; in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.

³⁵ Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in measure of length, in weight, and in measure of capacity:

²⁹ Nothing devoted, which shall be devoted from among men, shall be ransomed: it shall certainly be put to death.

¹ If there be a controversy between men, and they resort to judgment, and they judge [their case]; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked. ² And it shall be if the wicked man have deserved to be beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and be beaten before his face, according to the measure of his wickedness with a certain number [of stripes].

²⁴ But the men of Israel were distressed that day. Now Saul had adjured the people, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth food until evening, and [until] I am avenged on mine enemies. So none of the people tasted food.

²⁷ But Jonathan had not heard when his father adjured the people; and he put forth the end of his staff which was in his hand, and dipped it in the honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth, and his eyes became bright. ²⁸ Then answered one of the people and said, Thy father strictly adjured the people, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth food this day; and the people are faint.

⁴⁰ Then said he to all Israel, Be ye on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side. And the people said to Saul, Do what is good in thy sight. ⁴¹ And Saul said to Jehovah the God of Israel, Give a perfect [testimony]! And Jonathan and Saul were taken, and the people escaped. ⁴² And Saul said, Cast [lots] between me and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken. ⁴³ And Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what thou hast done. And Jonathan told him and said, With the end of the staff which is in my hand I tasted a little honey, [and] behold, I must die! ⁴⁴ And Saul said, God do so [to me] and more also; thou shalt certainly die, Jonathan.

¹⁷ And he said to David, Thou art more righteous than I; for thou hast rewarded me good, whereas I have rewarded thee evil.

¹² And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David`s counsellor, from his city, from Giloh, while he offered the sacrifices. And the conspiracy gathered strength; and the people increased continually with Absalom.

³¹ And one told David saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. Then said David, Jehovah, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.

¹⁷ And Jonathan and Ahimaaz stayed by En-rogel; and the maid went and told them; and they went and told king David, for they might not be seen to come into the city.

² And Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah saying, So do the gods [to me], and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to-morrow about this time!

²⁴ Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and smote Micah upon the cheek, and said, Where now went the Spirit of Jehovah from me to speak to thee?

³¹ And he said, God do so, and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall remain on him this day!

⁴ And the king said to me, For what dost thou make request? So I prayed to the God of the heavens.

¹² And I arose in the night, I and some few men with me -- but I told no man what my God had put in my heart to do for Jerusalem -- and there was no beast with me, except the beast that I rode upon.

²⁹ joined with their brethren, their nobles, and entered into a curse and into an oath, to walk in the law of God, which had been given by Moses the servant of God, and to keep and do all the commandments of Jehovah our Lord, and his ordinances and his statutes;

¹ And it came to pass in the days of Ahasuerus (that is, the Ahasuerus that reigned from India even to Ethiopia, over a hundred and twenty-seven provinces),

³ And the king said to her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be given thee even to the half of the kingdom.

² And the king said again to Esther on the second day, at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition, queen Esther? and it shall be granted thee; and what is thy request? even to the half of the kingdom it shall be done.

⁹ Then were the king`s scribes called at that time, in the third month, that is, the month Sivan, on the three and twentieth [day] thereof; and it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded, to the Jews, and to the satraps, and the governors, and the princes of the provinces which are from India even to Ethiopia, a hundred and twenty-seven provinces, to every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people according to their language, and to the Jews according to their writing and according to their language.

¹² upon one day in all the provinces of king Ahasuerus, upon the thirteenth of the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar.

¹² And the king said to Esther the queen, The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in Shushan the fortress, and the ten sons of Haman; what have they done in the rest of the king`s provinces? And what is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee; and what is thy request further? and it shall be done.

¹³ He taketh the wise in their own craftiness; and the counsel of the wily is carried headlong:

¹ Why are the nations in tumultuous agitation, and [why] do the peoples meditate a vain thing? ² The kings of the earth set themselves, and the princes plot together, against Jehovah and against his anointed: ³ Let us break their bonds asunder, and cast away their cords from us!

² Lest he tear my soul like a lion, crushing it while there is no deliverer.

² They speak falsehood every one with his neighbour: [with] flattering lip, with a double heart, do they speak.

¹¹ For they intended evil against thee; they imagined a mischievous device, which they could not execute.

¹³ For I have heard the slander of many -- terror on every side -- when they take counsel together against me: they plot to take away my life.

³² The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him: ³³ Jehovah will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged.

¹ {To the chief Musician. Of the sons of Korah. On Alamoth. A song.} God is our refuge and strength, a help in distresses, very readily found. ² Therefore will we not fear though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the heart of the seas;

²² Now consider this, ye that forget +God, lest I tear in pieces, and there be no deliverer.

¹ {To the chief Musician: an instruction. Of David; when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said unto him, David came to the house of Ahimelech.} Why boastest thou thyself in evil, thou mighty man? The loving-kindness of ?God [abideth] continually. ² Thy tongue deviseth mischievous things, like a sharp razor, practising deceit.

⁹ Swallow [them] up, Lord; divide their tongue: for I have seen violence and strife in the city.

¹ {To the chief Musician. `Destroy not.` Of David. Michtam.} Is righteousness indeed silent? Do ye speak it? Do ye judge with equity, ye sons of men? ² Yea, in heart ye work wickedness; ye weigh out the violence of your hands in the earth.

² Hide me from the secret counsel of evil-doers, from the tumultuous crowd of the workers of iniquity, ³ Who have sharpened their tongue like a sword, [and] have aimed their arrow, a bitter word; ⁴ That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not. ⁵ They encourage themselves in an evil matter, they concert to hide snares; they say, Who will see them? ⁶ They devise iniquities: We have it ready, the plan is diligently sought out. And each one`s inward [thought] and heart is deep.

¹ {A Psalm of Asaph.} God standeth in the assembly of ?God, he judgeth among the gods. ² How long will ye judge unrighteously, and accept the person of the wicked? Selah.

²⁰ Shall the throne of wickedness be united to thee, which frameth mischief into a law?

³¹ For he standeth at the right hand of the needy, to save him from those that judge his soul.

¹¹ If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk secretly for the innocent without cause; ¹² let us swallow them up alive as Sheol, and whole, as those that go down into the pit;

¹⁶ for their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed blood.

¹⁶ For they sleep not except they have done mischief, and their sleep is taken away unless they have caused [some] to fall.

⁷ When a man`s ways please Jehovah, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

³⁰ There is no wisdom, nor understanding, nor counsel against Jehovah.

³ A prudent [man] seeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.

¹ The wicked flee when no man pursueth; but the righteous are bold as a lion.

¹⁶ And moreover I saw under the sun, that in the place of judgment, wickedness was there; and in the place of righteousness, wickedness was there.

²⁰ Curse not the king, no, not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber: for the bird of the air will carry the voice, and that which hath wings will tell the matter.

⁹ The look of their face doth witness against them, and they declare their sin as Sodom: they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have brought evil upon themselves.

⁹ Rage, ye peoples, and be broken in pieces! And give ear, all ye distant parts of the earth: Gird yourselves, and be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and be broken in pieces! ¹⁰ Settle a plan, and it shall come to nought; speak a word, and it shall not stand: for ?God is with us.

¹⁰ -- Fear not, for I [am] with thee; be not dismayed, for I [am] thy God: I will strengthen thee, yea, I will help thee, yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

¹⁴ Fear not, thou worm Jacob, ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith Jehovah, and thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.

² When thou passest through the waters, I [will be] with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee; when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned, neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

¹⁰ declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure;

⁷ Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood; their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths;

¹⁵ Are they ashamed that they have committed abomination? Nay, they are not at all ashamed, neither know they what it is to blush. Therefore they shall fall among them that fall; at the time that I visit them they shall stumble, saith Jehovah.

¹² Are they ashamed that they have committed abomination? Nay, they are not at all ashamed, and they know not how to blush. Therefore shall they fall among them that fall: in the time of their visitation they shall stumble, saith Jehovah.

¹⁹ And I was like a tame lamb [that] is led to the slaughter; and I knew not that they devised devices against me, [saying,] Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.

¹⁹ Therefore thus saith Jehovah: If thou return, then will I bring thee again, thou shalt stand before me; and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth. Let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them. ²⁰ And I will make thee unto this people a strong brazen wall; and they shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee: for I am with thee, to save thee and to deliver thee, saith Jehovah; ²¹ yea, I will deliver thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem thee out of the hand of the terrible.

² And Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the upper gate of Benjamin, which was in the house of Jehovah.

³² not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers, in the day of my taking them by the hand, to lead them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they broke, although I was a husband unto them, saith Jehovah.

³⁷ Who is he that saith, and there cometh to pass, what the Lord hath not commanded?

⁴⁹ And Daniel requested of the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego over the administration of the province of Babylon. And Daniel was in the gate of the king.

¹ It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom a hundred and twenty satraps, who should be in all the kingdom;

⁵ Then said these men, We shall not find any pretext against this Daniel, unless we find [it] against him touching the law of his God. ⁶ Then these presidents and satraps came in a body to the king, and said thus unto him: King Darius, live for ever! ⁷ All the presidents of the kingdom, the prefects, and the satraps, the counsellors, and the governors have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any god or man for thirty days, except of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions. ⁸ Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which may not be revoked. ⁹ Therefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree. ¹⁰ And when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and, his windows being open in his upper chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled on his knees three times a day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime. ¹¹ But those men came in a body, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God. ¹² Then they came near, and spoke before the king concerning the king`s decree: Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask [anything] of any god or man within thirty days, except of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which may not be revoked.

⁹ And it shall be as the people so the priest; and I will visit their ways upon them, and recompense to them their doings;

⁷ Ye who turn judgment to wormwood, and cast down righteousness to the earth,

³ and who eat the flesh of my people, and flay their skin from off them, and break their bones, and chop them in pieces as for the pot, and as flesh within the cauldron.

⁸ But truly I am filled with power by the Spirit of Jehovah, and with judgment and with might, to declare unto Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin. ⁹ Hear this, I pray you, ye heads of the house of Jacob, and princes of the house of Israel, that abhor judgment, and pervert all equity, ¹⁰ that build up Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with unrighteousness. ¹¹ The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money; yet do they lean upon Jehovah, and say, Is not Jehovah in the midst of us? no evil shall come upon us.

¹ Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops; he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.

³ Both hands are for evil, to do it well. The prince asketh, and the judge [is there] for a reward; and the great [man] uttereth his soul`s greed: and [together] they combine it.

¹ Now Jesus having been born in Bethlehem of Judaea, in the days of Herod the king, behold magi from the east arrived at Jerusalem, saying,

³ But Herod the king having heard [of it], was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him;

¹⁶ Then Herod, seeing that he had been mocked by the magi, was greatly enraged; and sent and slew all the boys which [were] in Bethlehem, and in all its borders, from two years and under, according to the time which he had accurately inquired from the magi.

⁸ And the centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not fit that thou shouldest enter under my roof; but only speak a word, and my servant shall be healed. ⁹ For *I* also am a man under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say to this [one], Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my bondman, Do this, and he does it.

² And behold, they brought to him a paralytic, laid upon a bed; and Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, Be of good courage, child; thy sins are forgiven.

¹⁶ Behold, *I* send you as sheep in the midst of wolves; be therefore prudent as the serpents, and guileless as the doves.

³⁴ Do not think that I have come to send peace upon the earth: I have not come to send peace, but a sword.

²⁵ But in the fourth watch of the night he went off to them, walking on the sea.

²⁷ But Jesus immediately spoke to them, saying, Take courage; it is *I*: be not afraid.

²³ On that day came to him Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection; and they demanded of him,

²⁷ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for ye are like whited sepulchres, which appear beautiful outwardly, but within are full of dead men`s bones and all uncleanness. ²⁸ Thus also *ye*, outwardly ye appear righteous to men, but within are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

⁴ and took counsel together in order that they might seize Jesus by subtlety and kill him;

⁶⁷ Then they spit in his face, and buffeted him, and some struck him with the palms of their hand,

⁷⁴ Then he began to curse and to swear, I know not the man. And immediately [the] cock crew.

² And having bound him they led him away, and delivered him up to Pontius Pilate, the governor.

²⁵ And all the people answering said, His blood [be] on us and on our children.

²⁷ Then the soldiers of the governor, having taken Jesus with [them] to the praetorium, gathered against him the whole band,

²⁰ teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have enjoined you. And behold, *I* am with you all the days, until the completion of the age.

⁴⁴ and says to him, See thou say nothing to any one, but go, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing what Moses ordained, for a testimony to them.

¹⁶ And the scribes and the Pharisees, seeing him eating with sinners and tax-gatherers, said to his disciples, Why [is it] that he eats and drinks with tax-gatherers and sinners?

²³ And he swore to her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask me I will give thee, to half of my kingdom. ²⁴ And she went out, and said to her mother, What should I ask? And she said, The head of John the baptist. ²⁵ And immediately going in with haste to the king, she asked saying, I desire that thou give me directly upon a dish the head of John the baptist. ²⁶ And the king, [while] made very sorry, on account of the oaths and those lying at table with [him] would not break his word with her.

²³ And taking hold of the hand of the blind man he led him forth out of the village, and having spit upon his eyes, he laid his hands upon him, and asked him if he beheld anything.

²⁷ But Jesus, having taken hold of him by the hand, lifted him up, and he arose.

⁵¹ And Jesus answering says to him, What wilt thou that I shall do to thee? And the blind [man] said to him, Rabboni, that I may see.

¹⁸ And Sadducees come to him, that say there is no resurrection; and they demanded of him saying,

³ it has seemed good to *me* also, accurately acquainted from the origin with all things, to write to thee with method, most excellent Theophilus,

¹ Now in the fifteenth year of the government of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod tetrarch of Galilee, and Philip his brother tetrarch of Ituraea and the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,

³⁰ And their scribes and the Pharisees murmured at his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with tax-gatherers and sinners?

⁸ For *I* also am a man placed under authority, having under myself soldiers, and I say to this [one], Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my bondman, Do this, and he does [it].

⁴⁰ And Jesus answering said to him, Simon, I have somewhat to say to thee. And he says, Teacher, say [it].

³⁴ and came up [to him] and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine; and having put him on his own beast, took him to [the] inn and took care of him.

³⁸ And if he come in the second watch, and come in the third watch, and find [them] thus, blessed are those [bondmen].

²⁷ And some of the Sadducees, who deny that there is any resurrection, coming up [to him],

⁴ And Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, I find no guilt in this man.

⁶ But Pilate, having heard Galilee [named], demanded if the man were a Galilaean;

¹⁴ said to them, Ye have brought to me this man as turning away the people [to rebellion], and behold, I, having examined him before you, have found nothing criminal in this man as to the things of which ye accuse him; ¹⁵ nor Herod either, for I remitted you to him, and behold, nothing worthy of death is done by him.

²² And he said the third time to them, What evil then has this [man] done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will chastise him therefore and release him.

⁴⁰ [Some] out of the crowd therefore, having heard this word, said, This is truly the prophet. ⁴¹ Others said, This is the Christ. Others said, Does then the Christ come out of Galilee? ⁴² Has not the scripture said that the Christ comes of the seed of David, and from the village of Bethlehem, where David was? ⁴³ There was a division therefore in the crowd on account of him.

⁵¹ Does our law judge a man before it have first heard from himself, and know what he does?

⁸ The disciples say to him, Rabbi, [even but] now the Jews sought to stone thee, and goest thou thither again? ⁹ Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any one walk in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world; ¹⁰ but if any one walk in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.

²⁹ The crowd therefore, which stood [there] and heard [it], said that it had thundered. Others said, An angel has spoken to him.

¹⁸ I will not leave you orphans, I am coming to you.

² They shall put you out of the synagogues; but the hour is coming that every one who kills you will think to render service to God;

³³ These things have I spoken to you that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye have tribulation; but be of good courage: I have overcome the world.
