³¹ And as they were seeking to kill him, a representation came to the chiliarch of the band that the whole of Jerusalem was in a tumult;

⁴¹ And Adonijah and all the guests that were with him heard [it] as they were finishing their repast; and Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, and he said, Wherefore this noise of the city in an uproar?

⁵ but they said, Not in the feast, that there be not a tumult among the people.

² For they said, Not in the feast, lest perhaps there be a tumult of the people.

² They shall put you out of the synagogues; but the hour is coming that every one who kills you will think to render service to God;

¹² The band therefore, and the chiliarch, and the officers of the Jews, took Jesus and bound him:

¹ But a certain man in Caesarea, -- by name Cornelius, a centurion of the band called Italic,

⁵ But the Jews having been stirred up to jealousy, and taken to [themselves] certain wicked men of the lowest rabble, and having got a crowd together, set the city in confusion; and having beset the house of Jason sought to bring them out to the people;

⁴⁰ For also we are in danger to be put in accusation for sedition for this [affair] of to-day, no cause existing in reference to which we shall be able to give a reason for this concourse.

³⁸ Thou art not then that Egyptian who before these days raised a sedition and led out into the wilderness the four thousand men of the assassins?

²² And they heard him until this word, and lifted up their voice, saying, Away with such a one as that from the earth, for it was not fit he should live.

¹⁷ And Paul, having called one of the centurions, said, Take this youth to the chiliarch, for he has something to report to him.

⁶ who also attempted to profane the temple; whom we also had seized, [and would have judged according to our law;

²² And Felix, knowing accurately the things concerning the way, adjourned them, saying, When Lysias the chiliarch is come down I will determine your affair;

²³ On the morrow therefore, Agrippa being come, and Bernice, with great pomp, and having entered into the hall of audience, with the chiliarchs and the men of distinction of the city, and Festus having given command, Paul was brought.

⁹ *I* indeed myself thought that I ought to do much against the name of Jesus the Nazaraean. ¹⁰ Which also I did in Jerusalem, and myself shut up in prisons many of the saints, having received the authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death I gave my vote.

(I speak as being beside myself) *I* above measure [so]; in labours exceedingly abundant, in stripes to excess, in prisons exceedingly abundant, in deaths oft. ²⁴ From the Jews five times have I received forty [stripes], save one. ²⁵ Thrice have I been scourged, once I have been stoned, three times I have suffered shipwreck, a night and day I passed in the deep: ²⁶ in journeyings often, in perils of rivers, in perils of robbers, in perils from [my own] race, in perils from [the] nations, in perils in [the] city, in perils in [the] desert, in perils on [the] sea, in perils among false brethren; ²⁷ in labour and toil, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. ²⁸ Besides those things that are without, the crowd [of cares] pressing on me daily, the burden of all the assemblies. ²⁹ Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is stumbled, and I burn not? ³⁰ If it is needful to boast, I will boast in the things which concern my infirmity. ³¹ The God and Father of the Lord Jesus knows -- he who is blessed for ever -- that I do not lie. ³² In Damascus the ethnarch of Aretas the king kept the city of the Damascenes shut up, wishing to take me; ³³ and through a window in a basket I was let down by the wall, and escaped his hands.
