⁷ But Jehovah would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he had promised to give to him always a lamp, and to his sons.

¹² When thy days are fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. ¹³ It is he who shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever. ¹⁴ I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the stripes of the sons of men; ¹⁵ but my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before thee. ¹⁶ And thy house and thy kingdom shall be made firm for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever. ¹⁷ According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak to David.

¹⁷ And Abishai the son of Zeruiah succoured him, and smote the Philistine and killed him. Then the men of David swore to him, saying, Thou shalt go no more out with us to battle, that thou quench not the lamp of Israel.

⁵ Although my house be not so before ?God, Yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, Ordered in every way and sure; For [this is] all my salvation, and every desire, Although he make [it] not to grow.

¹³ only, I will not rend away all the kingdom: I will give one tribe to thy son, for David my servant`s sake, and for Jerusalem`s sake which I have chosen.

³⁶ And unto his son will I give one tribe, that David my servant may have a lamp always before me in Jerusalem, the city that I have chosen for myself to put my name there.

¹¹ But Jehoshabeath the daughter of the king took Joash the son of Ahaziah and stole him from among the king`s sons that were slain, and put him and his nurse in the bedchamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest (for she was the sister of Ahaziah), hid him from Athaliah, so that she did not slay him;

²⁸ My loving-kindness will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him; ²⁹ And I will establish his seed for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven. ³⁰ If his sons forsake my law, and walk not in mine ordinances; ³¹ If they profane my statutes, and keep not my commandments: ³² Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. ³³ Nevertheless my loving-kindness will I not utterly take from him, nor belie my faithfulness; ³⁴ My covenant will I not profane, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.

³⁹ Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant; thou hast profaned his crown to the ground:

¹¹ Jehovah hath sworn [in] truth unto David; he will not turn from it: Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne;

¹⁷ There will I cause the horn of David to bud forth; I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed. ¹⁸ His enemies will I clothe with shame; but upon himself shall his crown flourish.

⁶ Let us go up against Judah, and harass it, and make a breach therein for us, and set up a king therein -- the son of Tabeal; ⁷ thus saith the Lord Jehovah: It shall not stand, nor come to pass;

²⁰ Thus saith Jehovah: If ye can break my covenant [in respect] of the day, and my covenant [in respect] of the night, so that there should not be day and night in their season, ²¹ [then] shall also my covenant be broken with David my servant, that he should not have a son to reign upon his throne; and with the Levites, the priests, my ministers. ²² As the host of the heavens cannot be numbered, nor the sand of the sea measured, so will I multiply the seed of David my servant, and the Levites that minister unto me. ²³ And the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah, saying, ²⁴ Hast thou not seen what this people have spoken, saying, The two families that Jehovah had chosen, he hath even cast them off? And they despise my people, that they should be no more a nation before them. ²⁵ Thus saith Jehovah: If my covenant of day and night [stand] not, if I have not appointed the ordinances of the heavens and the earth, ²⁶ [then] will I also cast away the seed of Jacob, and of David my servant, so as not to take of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: for I will turn their captivity, and will have mercy on them.

⁶⁹ and raised up a horn of deliverance for us in the house of David his servant;

⁷⁹ to shine upon them who were sitting in darkness and in [the] shadow of death, to guide our feet into [the] way of peace.
