¹⁷ Enjoin on those rich in the present age not to be high-minded, nor to trust on the uncertainty of riches; but in the God who affords us all things richly for [our] enjoyment;

² And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.

¹⁰ And it shall be, when Jehovah thy God bringeth thee into the land which he swore unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee: great and good cities which thou buildedst not, ¹¹ and houses full of everything good which thou filledst not, and wells digged which thou diggedst not, vineyards and oliveyards which thou plantedst not, and thou shalt have eaten and shalt be full; ¹² [then] beware lest thou forget Jehovah who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

¹⁷ -- and thou say in thy heart, My power and the might of my hand has procured me this wealth.

¹⁵ And by the best things of the ancient mountains, And by the precious things of the everlasting hills,

¹⁶ But when he became strong his heart was lifted up to [his] downfall; and he transgressed against Jehovah his God, and went into the temple of Jehovah to burn incense upon the altar of incense.

²⁵ But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit [done] to him, for his heart was lifted up; and there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem. ²⁶ And Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of Jehovah came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

¹ There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job; and this man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God and abstained from evil. ² And there were born to him seven sons and three daughters. ³ And his substance was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she-asses, and very many servants; and this man was greater than all the children of the east.

²⁴ If I have made gold my hope, or said to the fine gold, My confidence! ²⁵ If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;

³ For the wicked boasteth of his soul`s desire, and he blesseth the covetous; he contemneth Jehovah. ⁴ The wicked [saith], in the haughtiness of his countenance, He doth not search out: all his thoughts are, There is no God!

⁷ Behold the man that made not God his strength, but put confidence in the abundance of his riches, [and] strengthened himself in his avarice.

⁸ Confide in him at all times, ye people; pour out your heart before him: God is our refuge. Selah.

¹⁰ Put not confidence in oppression, and become not vain in robbery; if wealth increase, set not your heart upon it.

⁵ They have not the hardships of mankind, neither are they plagued like [other] men: ⁶ Therefore pride encompasseth them as a neck-chain, violence covereth them [as] a garment; ⁷ Their eyes stand out from fatness, they exceed the imaginations of their heart: ⁸ They mock and speak wickedly of oppression, they speak loftily: ⁹ They set their mouth in the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.

¹¹ For Jehovah Elohim is a sun and shield: Jehovah will give grace and glory; no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. ¹² Jehovah of hosts, blessed is the man that confideth in thee!

²⁸ That thou givest unto them, they gather; thou openest thy hand, they are filled with good.

⁸ It is better to trust in Jehovah than to put confidence in man; ⁹ It is better to trust in Jehovah than to put confidence in nobles.

²⁸ He that trusteth in his riches shall fall; but the righteous shall flourish as a leaf.

⁵ wilt thou set thine eyes upon it, it is gone; for indeed it maketh itself wings and it flieth away as an eagle towards the heavens.

²⁴ for wealth is not for ever; and doth the crown [endure] from generation to generation?

⁹ lest I be full and deny [thee], and say, Who is Jehovah? or lest I be poor and steal, and outrage the name of my God.

¹³ There is a grievous evil that I have seen under the sun: riches kept for the owners thereof to their hurt; ¹⁴ or those riches perish by some evil circumstance, and if he have begotten a son, there is nothing in his hand.

¹⁸ Behold what I have seen good and comely: [it is] to eat and to drink, and to enjoy good in all his labour wherewith [man] laboureth under the sun, all the days of his life which God hath given him: for that is his portion. ¹⁹ Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and power to eat thereof, and to take his portion and to rejoice in his labour: that is a gift of God.

³¹ O generation, mark ye the word of Jehovah. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel, or a land of thick darkness? Wherefore say my people, We have dominion; we will come no more unto thee?

²³ Thus saith Jehovah: Let not the wise glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty glory in his might; let not the rich glory in his riches: ²⁴ but let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I [am] Jehovah, who exercise loving-kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth; for in these things I delight, saith Jehovah.

⁷ Blessed is the man that confideth in Jehovah, and whose confidence Jehovah is. ⁸ For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out its roots by the stream, and he shall not see when heat cometh, but his leaf shall be green; and in the year of drought he shall not be careful, neither shall he cease to yield fruit.

⁴⁹ Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom: pride, fulness of bread, and careless ease was in her and in her daughters, but she did not strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. ⁵⁰ And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me, and I took them away when I saw [it].

⁵⁶ Yea, Sodom thy sister was not mentioned by thy mouth in the day of thy pride,

³⁰ the king spoke and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?

¹⁹ and for the greatness that he gave him, all peoples, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew, and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he exalted, and whom he would he humbled. ²⁰ But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit hardened unto presumption, he was deposed from the throne of his kingdom, and they took his glory from him; ²¹ and he was driven from the sons of men, and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses; they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was bathed with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the Most High God ruleth over the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it whomsoever he will. ²² And thou, Belshazzar, his son, hast not humbled thy heart, although thou knewest all this; ²³ but hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of the heavens; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou and thy nobles, thy wives and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know; and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:

⁶ According to their pasture, they became full; they became full, and their heart was exalted: therefore have they forgotten me.

¹⁵ He taketh up all of them with the hook, he catcheth them in his net, and gathereth them into his drag; therefore he rejoiceth and is glad: ¹⁶ therefore he sacrificeth unto his net, and burneth incense unto his drag; for by them his portion is become fat, and his meat dainty.

³² for all these things the nations seek after; for your heavenly Father knows that ye have need of all these things.

²³ And Jesus said to his disciples, Verily I say unto you, A rich man shall with difficulty enter into the kingdom of the heavens;

⁵⁷ Now when even was come there came a rich man of Arimathaea, his name Joseph, who also himself was a disciple to Jesus.

²⁴ And the disciples were amazed at his words. And Jesus again answering says to them, Children, how difficult it is that those who trust in riches should enter into the kingdom of God!

¹⁵ And he said to them, Take heed and keep yourselves from all covetousness, for [it is] not because a man is in abundance [that] his life is in his possessions. ¹⁶ And he spoke a parable to them, saying, The land of a certain rich man brought forth abundantly. ¹⁷ And he reasoned within himself saying, What shall I do? for I have not [a place] where I shall lay up my fruits. ¹⁸ And he said, This will I do: I will take away my granaries and build greater, and there I will lay up all my produce and my good things; ¹⁹ and I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much good things laid by for many years; repose thyself, eat, drink, be merry. ²⁰ But God said to him, Fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee; and whose shall be what thou hast prepared? ²¹ Thus is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

² And behold, [there was] a man by name called Zacchaeus, and he was chief tax-gatherer, and he was rich.

⁹ And Jesus said to him, To-day salvation is come to this house, inasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham; ¹⁰ for the Son of man has come to seek and to save that which is lost.

¹⁷ though indeed he did not leave himself without witness, doing good, and giving to you from heaven rain and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness.

²⁷ And having arrived, and having brought together the assembly, they related to them all that God had done with them, and that he had opened a door of faith to the nations.

²⁵ nor is served by men`s hands as needing something, himself giving to all life and breath and all things;

²⁰ Right: they have been broken out through unbelief, and *thou* standest through faith. Be not high-minded, but fear:

⁵ For this ye are [well] informed of, knowing that no fornicator, or unclean person, or person of unbridled lust, who is an idolater, has inheritance in the kingdom of the Christ and God.

¹⁶ Let the word of the Christ dwell in you richly, in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another, in psalms, hymns, spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to God.

⁹ for they themselves relate concerning us what entering in we had to you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God,

³ Even as I begged thee to remain in Ephesus, [when I was] going to Macedonia, that thou mightest enjoin some not to teach other doctrines,

¹⁵ but if I delay, in order that thou mayest know how one ought to conduct oneself in God`s house, which is [the] assembly of [the] living God, [the] pillar and base of the truth.

¹⁰ for, for this we labour and suffer reproach, because we hope in a living God, who is preserver of all men, specially of those that believe.

²¹ I testify before God and Christ Jesus and the elect angels, that thou keep these things without prejudice, doing nothing by favour.

¹³ I enjoin thee before God who preserves all things in life, and Christ Jesus who witnessed before Pontius Pilate the good confession,

¹⁰ for Demas has forsaken me, having loved the present age, and is gone to Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.

¹² teaching us that, having denied impiety and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, and justly, and piously in the present course of things,

⁶ which he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

⁹ But let the brother of low degree glory in his elevation, ¹⁰ and the rich in his humiliation, because as [the] grass`s flower he will pass away.

⁶ Recompense her even as she has recompensed; and double [to her] double, according to her works. In the cup which she has mixed, mix to her double. ⁷ So much as she has glorified herself and lived luxuriously, so much torment and grief give to her. Because she says in her heart, I sit a queen, and I am not a widow; and I shall in no wise see grief:
