⁵ and Ahab said to Obadiah, Go through the land, to all the fountains of water and to all the torrents, perhaps we may find grass to save the horses and the mules alive, so that we may not have to destroy some of [our] beasts.

¹⁴ He maketh the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man; bringing forth bread out of the earth,

⁵ For the hind also calveth in the field, and forsaketh [its young], because there is no grass. ⁶ And the wild asses stand on the heights, they snuff up the wind like jackals; their eyes fail, because there is no herbage.

¹⁸ How do the beasts groan! The herds of cattle are bewildered, for they have no pasture; the flocks of sheep also are in suffering.

²² Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field: for the pastures of the wilderness do spring; for the tree beareth its fruit; the fig-tree and the vine yield full increase.

¹⁷ For though the fig-tree shall not blossom, Neither shall fruit be in the vines; The labour of the olive-tree shall fail, And the fields shall yield no food; The flock shall be cut off from the fold, And there shall be no herd in the stalls:

²⁰ for the creature has been made subject to vanity, not of its will, but by reason of him who has subjected [the same], in hope ²¹ that the creature itself also shall be set free from the bondage of corruption into the liberty of the glory of the children of God. ²² For we know that the whole creation groans together and travails in pain together until now.
