¹ Be my imitators, even as *I* also [am] of Christ. ² Now I praise you, that in all things ye are mindful of me; and that as I have directed you, ye keep the directions. ³ But I wish you to know that the Christ is the head of every man, but woman`s head [is] the man, and the Christ`s head God. ⁴ Every man praying or prophesying, having [anything] on his head, puts his head to shame. ⁵ But every woman praying or prophesying with her head uncovered puts her own head to shame; for it is one and the same as a shaved [woman]. ⁶ For if a woman be not covered, let her hair also be cut off. But if [it be] shameful to a woman to have her hair cut off or to be shaved, let her be covered. ⁷ For man indeed ought not to have his head covered, being God`s image and glory; but woman is man`s glory. ⁸ For man is not of woman, but woman of man. ⁹ For also man was not created for the sake of the woman, but woman for the sake of the man. ¹⁰ Therefore ought the woman to have authority on her head, on account of the angels. ¹¹ However, neither [is] woman without man, nor man without woman, in [the] Lord. ¹² For as the woman [is] of the man, so also [is] the man by the woman, but all things of God. ¹³ Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman should pray to God uncovered? ¹⁴ Does not even nature itself teach you, that man, if he have long hair, it is a dishonour to him? ¹⁵ But woman, if she have long hair, [it is] glory to her; for the long hair is given [to her] in lieu of a veil. ¹⁶ But if any one think to be contentious, *we* have no such custom, nor the assemblies of God. ¹⁷ But [in] prescribing [to you on] this [which I now enter on], I do not praise, [namely,] that ye come together, not for the better, but for the worse. ¹⁸ For first, when ye come together in assembly, I hear there exist divisions among you, and I partly give credit [to it]. ¹⁹ For there must also be sects among you, that the approved may become manifest among you. ²⁰ When ye come therefore together into one place, it is not to eat [the] Lord`s supper. ²¹ For each one in eating takes his *own* supper before [others], and one is hungry and another drinks to excess. ²² Have ye not then houses for eating and drinking? or do ye despise the assembly of God, and put to shame them who have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you? In this [point] I do not praise. ²³ For *I* received from the Lord, that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus, in the night in which he was delivered up, took bread, ²⁴ and having given thanks broke [it], and said, This is my body, which [is] for you: this do in remembrance of me. ²⁵ In like manner also the cup, after having supped, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood: this do, as often as ye shall drink [it], in remembrance of me. ²⁶ For as often as ye shall eat this bread, and drink the cup, ye announce the death of the Lord, until he come. ²⁷ So that whosoever shall eat the bread, or drink the cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty in respect of the body and of the blood of the Lord. ²⁸ But let a man prove himself, and thus eat of the bread, and drink of the cup. ²⁹ For [the] eater and drinker eats and drinks judgment to himself, not distinguishing the body. ³⁰ On this account many among you [are] weak and infirm, and a good many are fallen asleep. ³¹ But if we judged ourselves, so were we not judged. ³² But being judged, we are disciplined of [the] Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world. ³³ So that, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, wait for one another. ³⁴ If any one be hungry, let him eat at home, that ye may not come together for judgment. But the other things, whenever I come, I will set in order.

³¹ For hath he said unto ?God, I bear [chastisement], I will not offend; ³² What I see not, teach thou me; if I have done wrong, I will do so no more?

³ When I kept silence, my bones waxed old, through my groaning all the day long. ⁴ For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me; my moisture was turned into the drought of summer. Selah. ⁵ I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity I covered not; I said, I will confess my transgressions unto Jehovah, and *thou* forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.

¹ {A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance.} Jehovah, rebuke me not in thy wrath; neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure. ² For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand cometh down upon me. ³ There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine indignation; no peace in my bones, because of my sin. ⁴ For mine iniquities are gone over my head: as a heavy burden they are too heavy for me. ⁵ My wounds stink, they are corrupt, because of my foolishness. ⁶ I am depressed; I am bowed down beyond measure; I go mourning all the day. ⁷ For my loins are full of burning, and there is no soundness in my flesh. ⁸ I am faint and broken beyond measure; I roar by reason of the agitation of my heart.

⁶ Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an inadvertence. Wherefore should God be wroth at thy voice, and destroy the work of thy hands?

⁵ Whoso keepeth the commandment shall know no evil thing; and a wise man`s heart knoweth time and manner.

³ And he said unto me, Thou art my servant, Israel, in whom I will glorify myself. ⁴ -- And I said, I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nought and in vain; nevertheless my judgment is with Jehovah, and my work with my God. ⁵ And now, saith Jehovah, that formed me from the womb to be his servant, that I should bring Jacob again to him; (though Israel be not gathered, yet shall I be glorified in the eyes of Jehovah, and my God shall be my strength;) ⁶ -- and he saith, It is a small thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel; I have even given thee for a light of the nations, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.

Behold, in the day of your fast ye find what pleaseth [you], and exact all your labours. ⁴ Behold, ye have fasted for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness; ye do not at present fast, to cause your voice to be heard on high.

¹ The Spirit of the Lord Jehovah is upon me, because Jehovah hath anointed me to announce glad tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and opening of the prison to them that are bound; ² to proclaim the acceptable year of Jehovah, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; ³ to appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, that beauty should be given unto them instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of the spirit of heaviness: that they might be called terebinths of righteousness, the planting of Jehovah, that he may be glorified. ⁴ And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the places desolate from generation to generation.

⁹ What? steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not ... ¹⁰ then ye come and stand before me, in this house which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered, -- in order to do all these abominations!

²⁸ And thou shalt say unto them, This is the nation which hath not hearkened unto the voice of Jehovah their God, nor received correction; fidelity is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.

¹⁸ I have indeed heard Ephraim bemoaning himself [thus]: Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised as a bullock not trained: turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art Jehovah my God. ¹⁹ Surely after that I was turned, I repented; and after I knew myself, I smote upon [my] thigh. I was ashamed, yea, even confounded, for I bear the reproach of my youth. ²⁰ Is Ephraim a dear son unto me? is he a child of delights? For whilst I have been speaking against him, I do constantly remember him still. Therefore my bowels are troubled for him: I will certainly have mercy upon him, saith Jehovah.

⁴⁰ Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to Jehovah.

² You only have I known of all the families of the earth; therefore will I visit upon you all your iniquities.

²³ If therefore thou shouldest offer thy gift at the altar, and there shouldest remember that thy brother has something against thee, ²⁴ leave there thy gift before the altar, and first go, be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

⁷ Woe to the world because of offences! For it must needs be that offences come; yet woe to that man by whom the offence comes!

¹⁰ See that ye do not despise one of these little ones; for I say unto you that their angels in [the] heavens continually behold the face of my Father who is in [the] heavens.

¹⁹ And having taken a loaf, when he had given thanks, he broke [it], and gave [it] to them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. ²⁰ In like manner also the cup, after having supped, saying, This cup [is] the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.

He who honours not the Son, honours not the Father who has sent him. ²⁴ Verily, verily, I say unto you, that he that hears my word, and believes him that has sent me, has life eternal, and does not come into judgment, but is passed out of death into life. ²⁵ Verily, verily, I say unto you, that an hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and they that have heard shall live. ²⁶ For even as the Father has life in himself, so he has given to the Son also to have life in himself, ²⁷ and has given him authority to execute judgment [also], because he is Son of man. ²⁸ Wonder not at this, for an hour is coming in which all who are in the tombs shall hear his voice, ²⁹ and shall go forth; those that have practised good, to resurrection of life, and those that have done evil, to resurrection of judgment. ³⁰ I cannot do anything of myself; as I hear, I judge, and my judgment is righteous, because I do not seek my will, but the will of him that has sent me.

⁵¹ I am the living bread which has come down out of heaven: if any one shall have eaten of this bread he shall live for ever; but the bread withal which I shall give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

Not as the fathers ate and died: he that eats this bread shall live for ever.

⁶³ It is the Spirit which quickens, the flesh profits nothing: the words which I have spoken unto you are spirit and are life. ⁶⁴ But there are some of you who do not believe. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would deliver him up.

And having dipped the morsel, he gives it to Judas [son] of Simon, Iscariote. ²⁷ And, after the morsel, then entered Satan into him. Jesus therefore says to him, What thou doest, do quickly.

³ and if I go and shall prepare you a place, I am coming again and shall receive you to myself, that where I am ye also may be.

²⁸ Ye have heard that I have said unto you, I go away and I am coming to you. If ye loved me ye would rejoice that I go to the Father, for [my] Father is greater than I.

² as thou hast given him authority over all flesh, that [as to] all that thou hast given to him, he should give them life eternal. ³ And this is the eternal life, that they should know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent. ⁴ I have glorified *thee* on the earth, I have completed the work which thou gavest me that I should do it; ⁵ and now glorify *me*, *thou* Father, along with thyself, with the glory which I had along with thee before the world was.

²² Jesus says to him, If I will that he abide until I come, what [is that] to thee? Follow thou me.

⁵ And some of those who were of the sect of the Pharisees, who believed, rose up from among [them], saying that they ought to circumcise them and enjoin them to keep the law of Moses.

⁷ And the first day of the week, we being assembled to break bread, Paul discoursed to them, about to depart on the morrow. And he prolonged the discourse till midnight.

²⁸ Take heed therefore to yourselves, and to all the flock, wherein the Holy Spirit has set you as overseers, to shepherd the assembly of God, which he has purchased with the blood of his own.

³⁰ and from among your own selves shall rise up men speaking perverted things to draw away the disciples after them.

⁹ Now this man had four virgin daughters who prophesied.

²¹ And they have been informed concerning thee, that thou teachest all the Jews among the nations apostasy from Moses, saying that they should not circumcise their children, nor walk in the customs.

²⁴ take these and be purified with them, and pay their expenses, that they may have their heads shaved; and all will know that [of those things] of which they have been informed about thee nothing is [true]; but that thou thyself also walkest orderly, keeping the law.

⁵ For finding this man a pest, and moving sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a leader of the sect of the Nazaraeans;

¹⁴ But this I avow to thee, that in the way which they call sect, so I serve my fathers` God, believing all things which are written throughout the law, and in the prophets;

⁵ who knew me before from the outset [of my life], if they would bear witness, that according to the strictest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee.

²² But we beg to hear of thee what thou thinkest, for as concerning this sect it is known to us that it is everywhere spoken against.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever the things the law says, it speaks to those under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world be under judgment to God.

³⁶ For of him, and through him, and for him [are] all things: to him be glory for ever. Amen.

² So that he that sets himself in opposition to the authority resists the ordinance of God; and they who [thus] resist shall bring sentence of guilt on themselves. ³ For rulers are not a terror to a good work, but to an evil [one]. Dost thou desire then not to be afraid of the authority? practise [what is] good, and thou shalt have praise from it;

¹⁰ Now I exhort you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all say the same thing, and that there be not among you divisions; but that ye be perfectly united in the same mind and in the same opinion. ¹¹ For it has been shewn to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of [the house of] Chloe, that there are strifes among you. ¹² But I speak of this, that each of you says, *I* am of Paul, and *I* of Apollos, and *I* of Cephas, and *I* of Christ.

³ for ye are yet carnal. For whereas [there are] among you emulation and strife, are ye not carnal, and walk according to man?

⁵ So that do not judge anything before [the] time, until the Lord shall come, who shall also both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and shall make manifest the counsels of hearts; and then shall each have [his] praise from God.

¹⁶ I entreat you therefore, be my imitators. ¹⁷ For this reason I have sent to you Timotheus, who is my beloved and faithful child in [the] Lord, who shall put you in mind of my ways [as] they [are] in Christ, according as I teach everywhere in every assembly.

¹ It is universally reported [that there is] fornication among you, and such fornication as [is] not even among the nations, so that one should have his father`s wife.

²⁸ And God has set certain in the assembly: first, apostles; secondly, prophets; thirdly, teachers; then miraculous powers; then gifts of healings; helps; governments; kinds of tongues.

But greater is he that prophesies than he that speaks with tongues, unless he interpret, that the assembly may receive edification. ⁶ And now, brethren, if I come to you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, unless I shall speak to you either in revelation, or in knowledge, or in prophecy, or in teaching? ⁷ Even lifeless things giving a sound, whether pipe or harp, if they give not distinction to the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped? ⁸ For also, if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself for war? ⁹ Thus also *ye* with the tongue, unless ye give a distinct speech, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye will be speaking to the air. ¹⁰ There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of undistinguishable sound. ¹¹ If therefore I do not know the power of the sound, I shall be to him that speaks a barbarian, and he that speaks a barbarian for me. ¹² Thus *ye* also, since ye are desirous of spirits, seek that ye may abound for the edification of the assembly. ¹³ Wherefore let him that speaks with a tongue pray that he may interpret. ¹⁴ For if I pray with a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. ¹⁵ What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, but I will pray also with the understanding; I will sing with the spirit, but I will sing also with the understanding. ¹⁶ Since otherwise, if thou blessest with [the] spirit, how shall he who fills the place of the simple [Christian] say Amen, at thy giving of thanks, since he does not know what thou sayest? ¹⁷ For *thou* indeed givest thanks well, but the other is not edified. ¹⁸ I thank God I speak in a tongue more than all of you: ¹⁹ but in [the] assembly I desire to speak five words with my understanding, that I may instruct others also, [rather] than ten thousand words in a tongue. ²⁰ Brethren, be not children in [your] minds, but in malice be babes; but in [your] minds be grown [men]. ²¹ It is written in the law, By people of other tongues, and by strange lips, will I speak to this people; and neither thus will they hear me, saith the Lord. ²² So that tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe, but to unbelievers; but prophecy, not to unbelievers, but to those who believe. ²³ If therefore the whole assembly come together in one place, and all speak with tongues, and simple [persons] enter in, or unbelievers, will not they say ye are mad?

⁵¹ Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all fall asleep, but we shall all be changed,

²² Wives, [submit yourselves] to your own husbands, as to the Lord, ²³ for a husband is head of the wife, as also the Christ [is] head of the assembly. *He* [is] Saviour of the body. ²⁴ But even as the assembly is subjected to the Christ, so also wives to their own husbands in everything.

⁷ but emptied himself, taking a bondman`s form, taking his place in [the] likeness of men; <sup>8</sup> and having been found in figure as a man, humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, and [that the] death of [the] cross. <sup>9</sup> Wherefore also God highly exalted him, and granted him a name, that which is above every name, <sup>10</sup> that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of heavenly and earthly and infernal [beings], <sup>11</sup> and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ [is] Lord to God [the] Father`s glory.

¹⁵ So then, brethren, stand firm, and hold fast the instructions which ye have been taught, whether by word or by our letter.

⁶ Now we enjoin you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw from every brother walking disorderly and not according to the instruction which he received from us.

⁹ not that we have not the right, but that we might give ourselves as an example to you, in order to your imitating us.

¹¹ Let a woman learn in quietness in all subjection; ¹² but I do not suffer a woman to teach nor to exercise authority over man, but to be in quietness; ¹³ for Adam was formed first, then Eve:

⁵ (but if one does not know how to conduct his own house, how shall he take care of the assembly of God?)

¹⁵ but if I delay, in order that thou mayest know how one ought to conduct oneself in God`s house, which is [the] assembly of [the] living God, [the] pillar and base of the truth.

¹ But the Spirit speaks expressly, that in latter times some shall apostatise from the faith, giving their mind to deceiving spirits and teachings of demons ² speaking lies in hypocrisy, cauterised as to their own conscience,

³ If any one teach differently, and do not accede to sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the teaching which [is] according to piety, ⁴ he is puffed up, knowing nothing, but sick about questions and disputes of words, out of which arise envy, strife, injurious words, evil suspicions,

⁵ For this cause I left thee in Crete, that thou mightest go on to set right what remained [unordered], and establish elders in each city, as *I* had ordered thee:

¹⁰ An heretical man after a first and second admonition have done with,

² at the end of these days has spoken to us in [the person of the] Son, whom he has established heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; ³ who being [the] effulgence of his glory and [the] expression of his substance, and upholding all things by the word of his power, having made [by himself] the purification of sins, set himself down on the right hand of the greatness on high,

¹⁴ Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out for service on account of those who shall inherit salvation?

¹⁴ but solid food belongs to full-grown men, who, on account of habit, have their senses exercised for distinguishing both good and evil.

¹² that ye be not sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience have been inheritors of the promises.

¹⁵ And for this reason he is mediator of a new covenant, so that, death having taken place for redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, the called might receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. ¹⁶ (For where [there is] a testament, the death of the testator must needs come in. ¹⁷ For a testament [is] of force when men are dead, since it is in no way of force while the testator is alive.) ¹⁸ Whence neither the first was inaugurated without blood. ¹⁹ For every commandment having been spoken according to [the] law by Moses to all the people; having taken the blood of calves and goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, he sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, ²⁰ saying, This [is] the blood of the covenant which God has enjoined to you.

²⁸ thus the Christ also, having been once offered to bear the sins of many, shall appear to those that look for him the second time without sin for salvation.

²⁵ not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the custom [is] with some; but encouraging [one another], and by so much the more as ye see the day drawing near.

²⁹ of how much worse punishment, think ye, shall he be judged worthy who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and esteemed the blood of the covenant, whereby he has been sanctified, common, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?

⁵ And ye have quite forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: My son, despise not [the] chastening of [the] Lord, nor faint [when] reproved by him; ⁶ for whom [the] Lord loves he chastens, and scourges every son whom he receives. ⁷ Ye endure for chastening, God conducts himself towards you as towards sons; for who is the son that the father chastens not? ⁸ But if ye are without chastening, of which all have been made partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. ⁹ Moreover we have had the fathers of our flesh as chasteners, and we reverenced [them]; shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and live? ¹⁰ For they indeed chastened for a few days, as seemed good to them; but he for profit, in order to the partaking of his holiness. ¹¹ But no chastening at the time seems to be [matter] of joy, but of grief; but afterwards yields [the] peaceful fruit of righteousness to those exercised by it.

²⁰ But the God of peace, who brought again from among [the] dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, in [the power of the] blood of [the] eternal covenant,

⁵ Hear, my beloved brethren: Has not God chosen the poor as to the world, rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to them that love him? ⁶ But *ye* have despised the poor [man]. Do not the rich oppress you, and [do not] *they* drag you before [the] tribunals?

¹ Be not many teachers, my brethren, knowing that we shall receive greater judgment.

⁹ Therewith bless we the Lord and Father, and therewith curse we men made after [the] likeness of God.

¹² But before all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, nor by the earth, nor by any other oath; but let your yea be yea, and your nay, nay, that ye do not fall under judgment.

¹⁴ or to rulers as sent by him, for vengeance on evildoers, and praise to them that do well.

¹ Likewise, wives, [be] subject to your own husbands, that, even if any are disobedient to the word, they may be gained without [the] word by the conversation of the wives,

⁵ For thus also the holy women who have hoped in God heretofore adorned themselves, being subject to their own husbands; ⁶ as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord; whose children ye have become, doing good, and not fearing with any kind of consternation.

¹ But there were false prophets also among the people, as there shall be also among you false teachers, who shall bring in by the bye destructive heresies, and deny the master that bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction; ² and many shall follow their dissolute ways, through whom the way of the truth shall be blasphemed.

¹³ receiving [the] reward of unrighteousness; accounting ephemeral indulgence pleasure; spots and blemishes, rioting in their own deceits, feasting with you;

¹⁰ But the day of [the] Lord will come as a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a rushing noise, and [the] elements, burning with heat, shall be dissolved, and [the] earth and the works in it shall be burnt up.

⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us [our] sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

¹⁹ They went out from among us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have surely remained with us, but that they might be made manifest that none are of us.

²⁸ And now, children, abide in him, that if he be manifested we may have boldness, and not be put to shame from before him at his coming.

²⁰ that if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart and knows all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, we have boldness towards God,

¹⁹ We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in the wicked [one].

¹² These are spots in your love-feasts, feasting together [with you] without fear, pasturing themselves; clouds without water, carried along by [the] winds; autumnal trees, without fruit, twice dead, rooted up;

¹⁴ And Enoch, [the] seventh from Adam, prophesied also as to these, saying, Behold, [the] Lord has come amidst his holy myriads,

⁷ Behold, he comes with the clouds, and every eye shall see him, and they which have pierced him, and all the tribes of the land shall wail because of him. Yea. Amen.

⁵ Remember therefore whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works: but if not, I am coming to thee, and I will remove thy lamp out of its place, except thou shalt repent.

² Be watchful, and strengthen the things that remain, which are about to die, for I have not found thy works complete before my God. ³ Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and keep [it] and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come [upon thee] as a thief, and thou shalt not know at what hour I shall come upon thee.

¹⁹ I rebuke and discipline as many as I love; be zealous therefore and repent.

¹¹ And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled, and place was not found for them. ¹² And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is [that] of life. And the dead were judged out of the things written in the books according to their works.

²⁰ He that testifies these things says, Yea, I come quickly. Amen; come, Lord Jesus.
