¹³ Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. ¹⁴ But John tried to prevent him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" ¹⁵ But Jesus answered him, "Let it be so now; for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he consented. ¹⁶ And when Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and alighting on him. ¹⁷ And behold, a voice from heaven, saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."

²³ And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone,

⁹ In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. ¹⁰ And immediately coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened and the Spirit descending upon him like a dove. ¹¹ And a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."

¹⁶ But he often withdrew to the wilderness and prayed.

¹⁸ Now it happened that as he was praying alone his disciples were with him; and he asked them, "Who do the crowds say that I am?"

²⁸ Now about eight days after these sayings, he took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. ²⁹ And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his robe became white and glistening.

³² And John bore witness, "I saw the Spirit descend as a dove from heaven, and it remained on him. ³³ I did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.' ³⁴ And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God."

²⁷ "Now is my soul troubled, and what shall I say? 'Father, save me from this hour'? No, for this purpose I came to this hour. ²⁸ Father, glorify your name." Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again."
