⁵ For we have found this man a pestilent fellow who stirs up dissension among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.

²³ and he went and dwelt in a city called Nazareth, that what was spoken by the Prophets might be fulfilled, "He shall be called a Nazarene."

¹¹ Blessed are you when they revile you and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for my sake. ¹² Rejoice and be glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

²⁵ It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household!

² And they began to accuse him, saying, "We found this man perverting our nation and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ, a king."

⁵ But they were urgent, saying, "He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee to this place."

¹⁹ Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate addressed to them again.

²⁵ And as they led him away, they seized one Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, and laid on him the cross, to carry it behind Jesus.

¹⁷ But the high priest rose up and all who were with him, that is, the party of the Sadducees, and they were filled with jealousy.

¹³ They put forward false witnesses who said, "This man never stops speaking against this holy place, and the law;

⁵ But some believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up, and said, "It is necessary to circumcise them, and to charge them to keep the Law of Moses."

²⁰ and when they had brought them to the magistrates they said, "These men are Jews and they are throwing our city into an uproar. ²¹ They advocate customs which it is not lawful for us Romans to accept or practice."

⁶ When they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some of the brethren before the city authorities, shouting, "These men who have turned the world upside down have come here also, ⁷ and Jason has welcomed them, and they are all acting against the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus."

²⁸ crying out, "Men of Israel, help! This is the man who is teaching all men everywhere against our people and our law and this place; and besides he also brought Greeks into the temple, and he has defiled this holy place."

²² Up to this word they listened to him, and then they raised their voices and said, "Away with such a fellow from the earth! For he ought not to live."

¹⁴ But this I admit to you, that according to the Way which they call a sect I do worship the God of our fathers, believing everything that is in accordance with the Law and that is written in the Prophets,

⁵ They have known about me for a long time, if they are willing to testify, that I lived as a Pharisee according to the strictest sect of our religion.

²² But we desire to hear from you what your views are; for concerning this sect, we know that everywhere it is spoken against."

¹³ when we are slandered, we try to conciliate; we have become, and are now, as the scum of the world, the refuse of all things.

¹⁹ For there must be factions among you in order that those who are genuine among you may be recognized.

¹² Maintain good conduct among the Gentiles, so that in case they speak against you as wrongdoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation. ¹³ Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the supreme authority, ¹⁴ or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to praise those who do right. ¹⁵ For it is God's will that by doing right you should silence the ignorance of foolish men.

¹⁹ For a man is approved if, mindful of God, he bears up under pain while suffering unjustly.
