¹⁷ Now after several years I came to bring alms to my nation and to present offerings.

²⁹ And the disciples determined, each according to his ability, to send relief for the brethren living in Judea. ³⁰ And this they did, sending it to the elders by Barnabas and Saul.

¹⁶ For Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus, so that he would not have to spend time in Asia; for he was hurrying to be in Jerusalem, if possible, on the day of Pentecost.

³¹ Therefore be alert, remembering that for three years I did not cease night and day to admonish each one with tears.

²⁶ The next day Paul took the men and purified himself along with them. Then he went to the temple to give notice of the date when the days of purification would end and the offering would be made for each one of them.

²⁵ Now, however, I am going to Jerusalem with aid for the saints. ²⁶ For Macedonia and Achaia have been pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem. ²⁷ They were pleased to do it, and indeed they are in debt to them. For if the Gentiles have come to share in their spiritual blessings, they ought also to be of service to them in material blessings. ²⁸ When therefore I have completed this, and have delivered to them this fruit, I shall go on by way of you to Spain.

³¹ that I may be delivered from the unbelievers in Judea, and that my service for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints,

¹ Now concerning the collection for the saints: as I directed the churches of Galatia, so you must also do. ² On the first day of every week, each one of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that no collections be made when I come. ³ And when I arrive, I will send those whom you approve with letters to carry your gift to Jerusalem. ⁴ If it seems advisable for me to go also, they will accompany me.

¹ Now, brethren, we want you to know about the grace of God which has been given in the churches of Macedonia, ² for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in the wealth of their liberality. ³ For I testify that according to their ability, and even beyond their ability, they gave of their own free will, ⁴ urgently pleading with us for the privilege of sharing in the relief of the saints.

⁹ For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that through his poverty you might become rich.

¹ Now it is superfluous for me to write to you about the offering for the saints, ² for I know your readiness, of which I boast about you to the Macedonians, saying that Achaia has been ready since last year; and your zeal has stirred up most of them.

¹² For the ministry of this service is not only fully supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing through many thanksgivings to God.

¹⁰ All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do.
