Yet those who marry will have troubles in this flesh, and I am trying to spare you. ²⁹ I mean, brethren, the appointed time has grown very short; so that from now on, those who have wives should live as though they had none, ³⁰ and those who mourn, as though they were not mourning; and those who rejoice, as though they were not rejoicing; and those who buy, as though they did not possess; ³¹ and those who use the world, as though they did not make full use of it. For the form of this world is passing away. ³² But I want you to be free from concern. One who is unmarried is concerned about the affairs of the Lord, how he may please the Lord; ³³ but a married man is concerned about the affairs of the world, how he may please his wife, ³⁴ and his interests are divided. The unmarried woman, and the virgin, is concerned about the affairs of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and spirit; but the married woman is concerned about the affairs of the world, how she may please her husband.

³⁸ So then he who marries his betrothed does well, and he who does not marry her will do better.

⁴ Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. ⁵ But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her headit is the same as if her head were shaved.

²⁰ Nevertheless I have this against you, that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and beguiling my servants to practice sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols.
