³⁰ And this they did, sending it to the elders by Barnabas and Saul.

²⁵ And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem when they had fulfilled their mission, taking along with them John, who was also called Mark.

²³ And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, with prayer and fasting they committed them to the Lord in whom they believed.

² And when Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and debate with them, Paul and Barnabas and some of the others were appointed to go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and the elders about this question.

⁴ When they came to Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church and the apostles and the elders, and they reported all that God had done with them.

⁶ The apostles and the elders came together to consider this matter.

²³ and they sent the following letter with them: "The apostles and the brethren who are elders, to the brethren in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia who are from the Gentiles, greetings.

⁴ As they went on their way through the cities, they delivered to them for observance the decisions which had been reached by the apostles and elders who were in Jerusalem.

¹⁷ From Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called to him the elders of the church.

¹⁸ And the following day Paul went in with us to James, and all the elders were present.

³ And when I arrive, I will send those whom you approve with letters to carry your gift to Jerusalem. ⁴ If it seems advisable for me to go also, they will accompany me.

¹⁷ For he not only accepted our appeal, but being himself very earnest he is going to you of his own accord. ¹⁸ And we are sending along with him the brother who is praised by all the churches for his preaching of the gospel; ¹⁹ and not only that, but he has been appointed by the churches to travel with us in this gracious work which we are carrying on, for the glory of the Lord himself and to show our good will. ²⁰ We intend that no one should blame us about this liberal gift which we are administering, ²¹ for we have regard for what is honorable, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

¹⁷ The elders who rule well are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching.

¹⁹ Do not receive an accusation against an elder except on the basis of two or three witnesses.

⁵ For this reason I left you in Crete, that you might straighten out what was left unfinished, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you,

¹⁴ Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord;

¹ So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ and a partaker in the glory that is to be revealed,

¹ The elder to the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not only I, but also all who know the truth, ² because of the truth which abides in us and will be with us forever: ³ grace, mercy, and peace will be with us, from God the Father and from Jesus Christ the Father's Son, in truth and love. ⁴ I rejoiced greatly to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as we have been commanded by the Father. ⁵ And now I ask you, lady, not as though I were writing you a new commandment, but the one we have had from the beginning, that we love one another. ⁶ And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments. This is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, that you should walk in love. ⁷ For many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist. ⁸ Watch yourselves, that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may receive a full reward. ⁹ Anyone who runs ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ does not have God; he who abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. ¹⁰ If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting; ¹¹ for he who greets him shares in his wicked work. ¹² Though I have much to write to you, I do not want to use paper and ink, but I hope to come to see you and talk with you face to face, so that our joy may be complete. ¹³ The children of your chosen sister greet you.

¹ The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth. ² Beloved, I pray that you may be in good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. ³ For I greatly rejoiced when some of the brethren arrived and testified to the truth of your life, and how you are walking in truth. ⁴ I have no greater joy than this, to hear that my children are walking in the truth. ⁵ Beloved, you are acting faithfully in whatever you accomplish for the brethren, and especially when they are strangers; ⁶ and they have testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God. ⁷ For they went out for the sake of the Name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles. ⁸ Therefore we ought to support such men, so that we may be fellow workers in the truth. ⁹ I wrote something to the church; but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, does not accept what we say. ¹⁰ So if I come, I will call attention to what he is doing, gossiping against us with evil words. And not satisfied with that, he refuses himself to welcome the brethren, and also stops those who want to welcome them and puts them out of the church. ¹¹ Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. The one who does good is of God; the one who does evil has not seen God. ¹² Demetrius has received a good testimony from everyone, and from the truth itself; and we add our testimony, and you know that our testimony is true. ¹³ I had much to write you, but I do not want to do so with pen and ink; ¹⁴ I hope to see you soon, and we will talk face to face.
