¹¹ And coming to us, he took Paul's belt and bound his own feet and hands, and said, "This is what the Holy Spirit says, 'In this way the Jews at Jerusalem will bind the man who owns this belt and deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.'"

²⁶ At the same time, he was hoping that money would be given him by Paul. So he sent for him often and conversed with him. ²⁷ But when two years had passed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus, and desiring to do the Jews a favor, Felix left Paul in prison.

¹⁴ While they were spending many days there, Festus laid Paul's case before the king, saying, "There is a man who was left as a prisoner by Felix;

¹ When it was decided that we would sail for Italy, they delivered Paul and some other prisoners to a centurion of the Augustan cohort named Julius.

¹⁶ And when we came into Rome, Paul was allowed to stay by himself, with the soldier that guarded him.

³⁰ And he stayed there two whole years in his own rented quarters and welcomed all who came to him,

³⁶ As it is written: "For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered."

⁵ What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, even as the Lord assigned to each one.

¹ This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.

¹⁰ But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. No, I worked harder than all of themyet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.

³⁰ Why are we also in danger every hour? ³¹ I protest, brethren, by my pride in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die every day. ³² If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus for merely human reasons, what have I gained? If the dead are not raised, "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die."

⁹ Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. ¹⁰ He delivered us from so deadly a peril, and he will deliver us; on him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again.

⁶ who has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

¹¹ For we who live are always being given up to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh.

⁴ But as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, distresses, ⁵ in beatings, imprisonments, tumults, labors, sleeplessness, hunger,

⁹ as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold we live; as punished, and yet not killed;

⁷ You look at things as they are outwardly. If anyone is confident in himself that he is Christ's, let him consider this again within himself, that just as he is Christ's, so also are we.

⁵ I think that I am not in the least inferior to these super-apostles.

¹¹ I have been a fool! You forced me to it, for I ought to have been commended by you. For I was not in the least inferior to these super-apostles, even though I am nothing. ¹² The signs of a true apostle were performed among you in all perseverance, with signs and wonders and mighty works.

¹ For this reason I, Paul, am the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles

¹ I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called,

²⁰ for which I am an ambassador in chains; that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.

¹³ so that my imprisonment for Christ has become well known throughout the whole praetorian guard and to everyone else,

¹⁷ But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all.

²⁴ Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I do my share for the sake of his body, which is the church, in filling up what is lacking in Christ's afflictions.

²⁹ For this end I labor, striving with all his energy, which so mightily works within me.

² and we sent Timothy, our brother and God's fellow worker in the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you in your faith,

⁶ If you point out these things to the brethren, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the good doctrine which you have followed.

⁸ So do not be ashamed to testify of our Lord or of me his prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel according to the power of God,

¹⁶ May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains;

⁹ for which I am suffering even to the point of wearing chains like a criminal. But the word of God is not chained.

⁹ yet for love's sake I rather appeal to yousince I am such a person as Paul, the aged, and now also a prisoner of Christ Jesus

³⁴ For you had compassion on the prisoners, and you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one.
