⁶ and we are ready to punish every disobedience, whenever your obedience is complete.

³ But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land? ⁴ While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? How is it that you have conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God." ⁵ When Ananias heard these words, he fell down and died. And great fear came upon all who heard of it. ⁶ The young men arose and wrapped him up, carried him out, and buried him. ⁷ After an interval of about three hours his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. ⁸ Peter said to her, "Tell me whether you sold the land for such and such a price." And she said, "Yes, that was the price." ⁹ Then Peter said to her, "How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out." ¹⁰ Immediately she fell down at his feet and died. When the young men came in they found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband. ¹¹ And great fear came upon the whole church, and upon all who heard of these things.

¹⁰ and said, "You who are full of all deceit and fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not stop making crooked the straight ways of the Lord? ¹¹ Now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and unable to see the sun for a time." And immediately a mist and a darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking someone to lead him by the hand.

²¹ What do you desire? Shall I come to you with a rod, or with love and a spirit of gentleness?

³ For though I am absent in body, I am present in spirit, and have already passed judgment on the one who has committed this, as if I were present. ⁴ In the name of our Lord Jesus, when you are assembled, and I with you in spirit, and the power of our Lord Jesus is present, ⁵ you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

⁹ For this is why I wrote, that I might test you and know whether you are obedient in everything.

¹⁵ And his affection goes out all the more to you, as he remembers the obedience of you all, how you received him with fear and trembling.

² I warned those who sinned in the past and all the others, and I warn them now while absent, as I did when present the second time, that if I come again I will not spare them

¹⁰ I write these things while I am absent, in order that when I come I may not have to be severe in my use of the authority which the Lord gave me for building you up, and not for tearing you down.

²⁰ Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan so that they will be taught not to blaspheme.

¹⁰ So if I come, I will call attention to what he is doing, gossiping against us with evil words. And not satisfied with that, he refuses himself to welcome the brethren, and also stops those who want to welcome them and puts them out of the church.
