¹⁷ For you, you hate admonition, And you fling My words behind you."

⁹ and you do evil above all who have been before you, and go, and make to you other elohims and molten images to provoke Me to anger, and Me you have cast behind your back.

²⁶ `And they are disobedient, and rebel against You, and cast Your law behind their back, and Your prophets they have slain, who testified against them, to bring them back unto You, and they do great despisings,

⁷ The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge; The foolish despise wisdom and discipline.

²⁸ Then they shall call me, yet I shall not answer; They shall seek me early, yet shall not find me." ²⁹ Because they hated knowledge And would not choose the fear of Yahweh,

¹² And you say, How I have hated discipline, And my heart has spurned correction!" ¹³ I have not hearkened to the voice of those directing my instruction, And to those teaching me I have not stretched out my ear;"

³⁶ Yet whoever misses me wrongs his soul; All who hate me love death.

¹ He who loves admonition loves knowledge, Yet he who hates reproof is irrational."

²³ who justify the wicked as the consequence of a bribe, and the righteousness of the righteous are taking away from him."

⁹ Ashamed have been the wise, They have been affrighted, and are captured, Lo, against a word of Yahweh they kicked, And the wisdom of what--have they?

¹² And they have said, It is incurable, For after our own devices we do go, And each the stubbornness of his evil heart we do."

²³ and it comes to pass, when Jehudi reads three or four leaves, he cuts it out with the scribe's knife, and has cast unto the fire, that [is] on the stove, till the consumption of all the roll by the fire that [is] on the stove." ²⁴ And the king and all his servants who are hearing all these words have not been afraid, nor rent their garments." ²⁵ And also Elnathan, and Delaiah, and Gemariah have interceded with the king not to burn the roll, and he has not hearkened unto them." ²⁶ And the king commands Jerahmeel son of Hammelek, and Seraiah son of Azriel, and Shelemiah son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe, and Jeremiah the prophet, and Yahweh does hide them." ²⁷ And there is a word of Yahweh unto Jeremiah--after the king's burning the roll, even the words that Baruch has written from the mouth of Jeremiah--saying:" ²⁸ `Turn, take to you another roll, and write on it all the former words that were on the first roll, that Jehoiakim king of Judah burnt, <sup>29</sup> and unto Jehoiakim king of Judah you do say:Thus said Yahweh, You have burnt this roll, saying, Wherefore have you written on it, saying, The king of Babylon surely comes in, and has destroyed this land, and caused to cease from it man and beast? <sup>30</sup> `Therefore, thus said Yahweh, concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah:He has none sitting on the throne of David, and his carcase is cast out to heat by day, and to cold by night;" ³¹ and I have charged on him, and on his seed, and on his servants, their iniquity; and I have brought in on them, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto the men of Judah, all the evil that I have spoken unto them, and they hearkened not.'" ³² And Jeremiah has taken another roll, and gives it unto Baruch son of Neriah the scribe, and he writes on it from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book that Jehoiakim king of Judah has burnt in the fire; and again there were added unto them many words like these."

²⁰ For everyone who is committing bad things is hating the light and is not coming to the light, lest his acts may be exposed."

²⁸ And according as they do not test God, to have Him in recognition, God gives them over to a disqualified mind, to do that which is not befitting,

²¹ You, then, who are teaching another, you are not teaching yourself! who are heralding not to be stealing, you are stealing!" ²² who are saying not to be committing adultery, you are committing adultery! who are abominating idols, you are despoiling the sanctuary!" ²³ who are boasting in a law, through the transgression of the law you are dishonoring God!"

¹⁰ and with every seduction of injustice among those who are perishing, because they do not receive the love of the truth for their salvation." ¹¹ And therefore God will be sending them an operation of deception, for them to believe the falsehood, ¹² that all may be judged who do not believe the truth, but delight in injustice."

³ For the era will be when they will not tolerate sound teaching, but, their hearing being tickled, they will heap up for themselves teachers in accord with their own desires, " ⁴ and, indeed, they will be turning their hearing away from the truth, yet will be turned aside to myths."
