² He brought me up from the cistern of tumult, From the miry mud; Then He raised my feet upon a crag; He has established my movement."

⁵ My movement is upheld in Your rounds; My footsteps shall slip no more.

¹⁶ He sent from the height; He took me; He removed me from many waters; ¹⁷ He rescued me from my strong enemy And from those hating me; For they were tougher than I.

³⁶ You widened my steps beneath me, So that my limbs have not tottered."

⁵ For He shall seclude me in His booth in the day of evil; He shall conceal me in the secrecy of His tent; He shall safely set me high on a rock.

²³ By Yahweh are the steps of a master prepared, And in His way shall he delight."

² From the outmost part of the land am I calling to You while my heart droops; Guide me to a rock that is higher than I.

² I sink in the mire of a swamp, and there is no standing ground. I come into deep waters, and the surge engulfs me."

¹⁴ Rescue me from the mud, and let me not sink; Let me be rescued from those hating me, and from the depths of the waters." ¹⁵ Let not the surge of the water be engulfing me, Let not the swamp be swallowing me up, And let not the well be blocking off its mouth over me."

²⁰ You Who have made me see distresses, many and evil, You shall again revive me; You shall again bring me up from the abyss of the earth."

¹³ For Your benignity over me is great, And You have rescued my soul from the unseen beneath."

³ The cables of death have enveloped me, And the constrictions of the unseen, they have converged upon me; I found distress and affliction."

¹³³ Establish my footsteps in Your promise, And let not any lawlessness have authority over me."

⁶ Do attend to my appeal, For I am exceedingly impoverished; Rescue me from my persecutors, For they are tougher than I." ⁷ Bring my soul forth from this enclosure To acclaim Your Name; The righteous shall compass about me, For You shall deal bountifully with me."

³ For the enemy has persecuted my soul; He has crushed my life to the earth; He has made me sit in utter darkness like the eonian dead.

²² and they are gathered, a gathering imprisoned in a crypt, and closed in an enclosure, and for many days they will be missing."

⁶ And they take Jeremiah, and cast him into the pit of Malchiah son of the king, that [is] in the court of the prison, and they send down Jeremiah with cords; and in the pit there is no water, but mire, and Jeremiah sinks in the mire." ⁷ And Ebed-Melech the Cushite, a eunuch who [is] in the king's house, hears that they have put Jeremiah into the pit; and the king is sitting at the gate of Benjamin, ⁸ and Ebed-Melech goes forth from the king's house, and speaks unto the king, saying, ⁹ `My lord, O king, these men have done evil [in] all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the pit, and he dies in his place because of the famine, for there is no more bread in the city.'" <sup>10</sup> And the king commands Ebed-Melech the Cushite, saying, `Take with you from this thirty men, and you have brought up Jeremiah the prophet from the pit, before he dies.'" ¹¹ And Ebed-Melech takes the men with him, and enters the house of the king, unto the place of the treasury, and takes thence worn-out clouts, and worn-out rags, and sends them unto Jeremiah unto the pit by cords." ¹² And Ebed-Melech the Cushite said unto Jeremiah, `Put, I pray you, the worn-out clouts and rags under your arm-holes, at the place of the cords,' and Jeremiah does so,

⁵³ They efface my life in a dungeon, which they block up over me with a stone;" ⁵⁴ Waters float over my head; I say:I am severed; ⁵⁵ I call on Your Name, O Yahweh, from the nether parts of the dungeon;"

⁵ The waters envelope me unto the soul; the submerged chaos is surrounding me; sedge binds up my head. ⁶ I go down to the fashioning points of the mountains; the earth, its bars are about me for the eon, yet You wilt bring up my life from ruin, Yahweh, my Elohim."

¹¹ Moreover, you, by the blood of your covenant, I send your prisoners away from a cistern without water in it."

²⁴ Everyone, then, who is hearing these sayings of Mine and is doing them shall be likened to a prudent man who builds his house on the rock." ²⁵ And the rain descended, and the rivers came, and the winds blow and they lunge at that house, and it does not fall, for it had been founded on the rock."

⁵⁰ And they shall be casting them into a furnace of fire. There shall be lamentation and gnashing of teeth.

²⁴ Whom God raises, loosing the pangs of death, forasmuch as it was not possible for Him to be held by it."

²⁷ For Thou wilt not be forsaking my soul in the unseen, Nor wilt Thou be giving Thy Benign One to be acquainted with decay." ²⁸ Thou makest known to me the paths of life. Thou wilt be filling me with gladness with Thy face.' ²⁹ Men! Brethren! Allow me to say to you with boldness concerning the patriarch David, that he deceases also and was entombed, and his tomb is among us until this day." ³⁰ Being, then, inherently, a prophet, and having perceived that God swears to him with an oath, out of the fruit of his loin to seat One on his throne, ³¹ perceiving this before, he speaks concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that He was neither forsaken in the unseen, nor was His flesh acquainted with decay."
