⁵ Proud men bury a snare for me, And they spread lines, a net at the side of my route; They set traps for me. {Interlude{ "

⁹ A snare shall hold him by his heel; A snag shall hold fast onto him.

⁴ In his haughty anger the wicked one is not inquiring at all. There is no Elohim in all his schemes; ⁵ His ways are profane in every season. Your judgments are withdrawn from in front of him; All his foes--he puffs at them. ⁶ He says in his heart, I shall not slip at all; For generation after generation, I shall not be in peril. ⁷ His mouth is full of imprecation, with deceit and fraud; Under his tongue are misery and lawlessness. ⁸ He sits in ambush in the hamlets; In places of concealment he kills the innocent; His eyes lurk for the pauper. ⁹ He waits in ambush in concealment like a lion in its covert; He waits in ambush to kidnap the humble; He kidnaps the humble by drawing him into his net. ¹⁰ The distressed one is crushed and bows down, And the army of paupers falls prey to his staunch ones. ¹¹ He says in his heart, El has forgotten; He has concealed His face; He will not see at all, permanently. ¹² Do arise, O Yahweh! O El, lift up Your hand! Do not forget the humble.

⁸ Keep me as the pupil of Your eye; Conceal me in the shadow of Your wings ⁹ From the face of the wicked, those who devastate me; My enemies against my soul encompass about me." ¹⁰ They have closed their calloused heart; Their mouths have spoken in pride. ¹¹ They surround me now in my progress; They are setting their eyes to turn me aside to the earth. ¹² His likeness is like a lion that longs to tear prey, And like a sheltered lion sitting in concealment." ¹³ O Yahweh, do arise; do confront him to his face; Make him bow down. Do deliver my soul from the wicked one by Your sword,

⁴ You shall bring me forth from the net That they have buried for me; For You are my Stronghold.

⁷ For gratuitously have they buried their net for me; Gratuitously have they delved a grave for my soul.

¹¹ Do not let the foot of pride come against me; And do not let the hand of the wicked cause me to wander.

⁶ They have prepared a net for my footsteps; My soul is bent down; They have dug a pit before me, Yet they have fallen into its midst. {Interlude{ "

⁶⁹ The arrogant smear me with falsehood; As for me, with all my heart I preserve Your precepts."

⁸⁵ The arrogant dig pits to trap me, Who do not act according to Your law."

¹¹⁰ Wicked ones have placed a snare for me, Yet I do not stray from Your precepts."

³ Be gracious to us, O Yahweh, be gracious to us, For we are surfeited greatly with contempt." ⁴ For itself is our soul greatly surfeited With the derision of the self-satisfied, With the contempt of the proud."

⁹ Keep me from the grip of the snare they have set to trap me, And from the traps of contrivers of lawlessness." ¹⁰ May the wicked ones each fall into his own nooses, While I pass by altogether."

³ When my spirit droops within me, Then it is You Yourself Who knows my tracks; In the path that I am walking, They have buried a snare for me."

⁵ A master who is slick of tongue toward his associate Is one who spreads a net for his footsteps.

¹⁸ And they say, Come, And we devise against Jeremiah devices, For law does not perish from the priest, Nor counsel from the wise, Nor the word from the prophet, Come, and we smite him with the tongue, And we do not attend to any of his words."

²⁰ Is evil recompensed instead of good, That they have dug a pit for my soul? Remember my standing before You to speak good of them, To turn back Your wrath from them."

²² A cry is heard from their houses, For You bring against them suddenly a troop, For they dug a pit to capture me, And snares they have hidden for my feet."

⁵³ And at His coming out thence, the scribes and the Pharisees begin to hem Him in dreadfully and to be quizzing Him concerning more things, ⁵⁴ ambushing Him,seeking to pounce upon something out of His mouth, that they shall be accusing Him."

²⁰ And scrutinizing Him, they dispatch eavesdroppers, feigning themselves to be just, that they may get hold of a word of His, so as to give Him up to the sovereignty and the jurisdiction of the governor." ²¹ And they inquire of Him, saying, "Teacher, we are aware that you are saying and teaching correctly, and are not taking the surface view, but of a truth the way of God you are teaching." ²² Is it allowed us to give a tax to Caesar, or not? ²³ Now, considering their craftiness, He said to them, "Why are you trying Me?
