¹ Better is a dried-up morsel when ease is with it Than a house full of sacrifices, with contention." ² An intelligent servant rules over a son who causes shame And is apportioned an allotment in the midst of the brothers. ³ The smelter for silver and the crucible for gold, Yet Yahweh is testing hearts." ⁴ The evildoer attends to lawless lips; The false man gives ear to the woe-scheming tongue. ⁵ He who derides the destitute one reproaches his Maker; He who rejoices at calamity shall not be held innocent. ⁶ Sons of sons are the crown of the old, And their fathers are the beauty of sons." ⁷ Excelling eloquence does not seem comely in the decadent person; How much less indeed false eloquence in the patron. ⁸ A bribe is like a stone for favor in the eyes of its grand possessor; Wherever it is present it proceeds effectively. ⁹ He who covers a transgression seeks love, Yet he who repeats the matter parts one from his mentor." ¹⁰ A rebuke settles deeper into one of understanding Than a hundred smitings into a stupid man. ¹¹ A rebellious man is seeking only evil, And a cruel messenger is sent to him." ¹² Let a bereaved bear encounter a man, But certainly not a stupid person in his folly." ¹³ If one returns evil for good, Evil shall not remove itself from his house." ¹⁴ The beginning of a quarrel is like opening up a dam of water, So before the contention rails, abandon it." ¹⁵ He who justifies the wicked person and he who condemns the righteous man, Even both of them are an abhorrence to Yahweh." ¹⁶ Why then should the price be in the hand of a stupid man To acquire wisdom, since he has no heart understanding? ¹⁷ The close associate keeps friendship at all times, And a brother is born to share distress." ¹⁸ A man who lacks heart understanding will clasp his palm in pledge, Becoming hostage as surety in the presence of his associate." ¹⁹ He who loves transgression loves strife; He who makes his portal lofty seeks its breaking down. ²⁰ A perverse heart does not find good, And he who is devious in his tongue falls into evil." ²¹ One who begets a stupid child has affliction for himself, And a father of a decadent son cannot rejoice." ²² A rejoicing heart does good as a cure, Yet a despondent spirit dries up the ribs." ²³ A wicked man takes a bribe from the bosom To turn aside the paths of right judgment. ²⁴ Wisdom lies before the face of the man of understanding, Yet the eyes of the stupid one roam to the ends of the earth." ²⁵ A stupid son is vexation to his father And bitterness to her who bore him. ²⁶ To fine also the righteous person is not good, Or to smite patrons for their uprightness." ²⁷ One who knows knowledge keeps back on his sayings, And the man of comprehension is cool of spirit." ²⁸ Even a fool who keeps silence is reckoned wise; He who closes up his lips has understanding.

⁸ And saying is Abram to Lot, "There must not, pray, come to be contention between me and you, and between my graziers and your graziers, for mortals, brethren are we. ⁹ Is not the entire land before you? Be parted, pray, from me. If to the left, to the right will I go. And if to the right, to the left will I go.

²⁵ Far be it from You to do according to this word, to put to death the righteous with the wicked, and so come the righteous to be as the wicked. Far be it from You! The Judge of the entire earth, will He not execute judgment?

⁴ for to my land whence I came, and to my kindred should you go, and take a wife for my son, for Isaac, thence. ⁵ And saying to him is the servant, "Perhaps the woman will not be willing to go after me to this land. Shall I restore, yea restore your son to the land whence you fared forth? ⁶ And saying to him is Abraham, "Beware you, lest you restore my son thither!" ⁷ Yahweh, the Elohim of the heavens and the Elohim of the earth, Who took me from my father's household and from the land of my kindred, whence I came, and Who spoke to me, and Who swore to me, saying, `To you and your seed will I give this land,' He will send His messenger before you, and you take a wife for my son, Isaac, thence. <sup>8</sup> And should the woman not be willing to go after you to this land, innocent are you of this my oath, but my son you shall not restore thither. <sup>9</sup> And placing is the servant his hand under the thigh of Abraham, his lord, and is swearing to him on account of this matter. <sup>10</sup> And taking is the servant ten camels from the camels of his lord, and is going. And all manner of good things of his lord are in his hand. And rising is he and going to Syria of the streams, to the city of Nahor. <sup>11</sup> And causing is he the camels to kneel outside the city at a well of water at eventide, the time the women fare forth to bail it. <sup>12</sup> And saying is he, "Yahweh, Elohim of my lord Abraham, pray, cause a meeting before me today, and do a kindness to my lord Abraham. <sup>13</sup> Behold! I am stationed at this spring of water, and the daughters of the mortals of the city will fare forth to bail water. <sup>14</sup> And comes it that the maiden to whom I will say, `Pray stretch out your jar and give me a drink,' says to me, `Drink. And moreover, your camels also will I give to drink till they should finish drinking', that her You do find correct for Your servant, for Isaac, and by it will I know that You do a kindness to my lord Abraham. <sup>15</sup> And coming is it, ere he finishes speaking in his heart, that behold! Rebecca is faring forth, who was born to Bethuel, the son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, and her jar is on her shoulder. <sup>16</sup> And the maiden is of exceedingly good appearance, a virgin, and not a man had known her. And down is she going to the spring, and is filling her jar and is coming up. <sup>17</sup> And running is the servant to meet her, and is saying, "Pray, let me sup a little water from your jar. <sup>18</sup> And saying is she, "Drink, my lord.And hastening is she and is letting down her jar on her hand and giving him to drink. <sup>19</sup> And finishing is she giving him to drink and is saying, "Moreover, for your camels will I bail till they should finish drinking. <sup>20</sup> And hastening is she and emptying her jar into the drinking basin, and running again to the well to bail. And bailing is she for all his camels. <sup>21</sup> And the man is in a tumult over her, and silent, to know if Yahweh prospers his way or not? <sup>22</sup> And coming is it, as the camels finish drinking, taking is the man a pendant of gold, its weight a bekah, and is placing it on her nose, and two bracelets on her hands of ten gold shekels' weight. <sup>23</sup> And he inquires of her and is saying, "Whose daughter are you? Tell me, pray. Forsooth, in the house of your father, is there place for us to lodge? <sup>24</sup> And saying is she to him, "A daughter am I of Bethuel, the son of Milcah, whom she bore for Nahor. <sup>25</sup> And saying is she to him, "Moreover, crushed straw and provender there is much with us, and, moreover, a place to lodge. <sup>26</sup> And bowing is the man his head and worshiping Yahweh. <sup>27</sup> And saying is he, "Blessed be Yahweh, Elohim of my lord Abraham, Who does not forsake His kindness and His truth with my lord Abraham. I am on the right way. Guided me has Yahweh to the house of my lord's brothers. <sup>28</sup> And running is the maiden and telling her mother's household as to these matters. <sup>29</sup> And Rebecca has a brother, and his name is Laban. And running is Laban to the man outside at the spring. <sup>30</sup> And coming is it, as he sees the pendant, and the bracelets on his sister's hands, and as he hears the words of Rebecca, his sister, saying, "Thus spoke the man to me,that coming is he to the man. And behold! Standing is he with the camels at the spring. <sup>31</sup> And saying is he to him, "Come, blessed of Yahweh! Why are you standing outside when I have prepared a surface in the house and a place for the camels? <sup>32</sup> And coming is the man into the house. Yet, unloosening is he the camels' girths and giving crushed straw and provender to the camels, and water to wash his feet and the feet of the mortals who are with him. <sup>33</sup> And placing is he bread before him to eat. Yet saying is he, "Not eat will I till I should speak my word.And saying is he, "Speak. <sup>34</sup> And saying is he, "A servant of Abraham am I. <sup>35</sup> And Yahweh has blessed my lord exceedingly, and he is growing great, and He is giving to him a flock and a herd and silver and gold and servants and maids and camels and asses. <sup>36</sup> And Sarah, the wife of my lord, bore one son for my lord after she was old. And give will he to him all that he has. <sup>37</sup> And adjuring me is my lord saying, `You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanite, in whose land I dwell, ³⁸ for you should go to the household of my father, and to my family, and take a wife for my son thence.. ³⁹ And saying am I to my lord, `Perhaps the woman will not go after me.. <sup>40</sup> And saying is he to me, `Yahweh Elohim, before Whom I walk, He will send His messenger with you and prosper your way. And take shall you a wife for my son from my family, and from the household of my father. ⁴¹ Then you shall be innocent from my oath of imprecation. For come shall you to my family, and should they not give to you, then you shall be innocent from my oath of imprecation.. ⁴² And coming am I today to the spring. "And saying am I, `Yahweh, Elohim of my lord Abraham, pray, shouldst You, forsooth, be prospering my way on which I am now going, <sup>43</sup> behold! I am stationed at the spring of water where the daughters of the mortals of the city will fare forth to bail water. And comes it that the damsel is faring forth to bail, and I say to her, "Pray give me a little water to drink from your jar, <sup>44</sup> and she says to me, "You drink, and, moreover, for your camels will I bail,she is the woman whom Yahweh finds correct for Isaac, the son of my lord, and by this will I know that You do a kindness to my lord Abraham.. <sup>45</sup> Ere I am finishing speaking in my heart, behold! Rebecca is faring forth, and her jar is on her shoulder, and down is she going to the spring and is bailing. "And saying am I to her, `Give me a little water to drink, pray, from your jar.. ⁴⁶ And hastening is she and letting down her jar on her hand and is saying, `Drink. And, moreover, your camels will I give a drink.' And drinking am I, and, moreover, she gives the camels a drink. <sup>47</sup> And asking her am I and saying, `Whose daughter are you?' And saying is she, `A daughter of Bethuel, son of Nahor, whom Milcah bore for him.' And placing am I the pendant on her nose and the bracelets on her hands. ⁴⁸ And bowing my head am I and worshiping Yahweh, and blessing Yahweh, Elohim of my lord Abraham, Who guides me in the way of truth, to take the daughter of my lord's brother for his son. ⁴⁹ And now, if you, forsooth, deal in kindness and truth with my lord, tell me. And if not, tell me, and I will face to the right or to the left. ⁵⁰ And answering are Laban and Bethuel and saying, "From Yahweh fares forth this matter. We cannot speak to you evil or good. ⁵¹ Behold! Rebecca is before you. Take her and go, and she shall become the wife of your lord's son, as Yahweh speaks. ⁵² And coming is it, as Abraham's servant hears their words, that he is prostrating to the earth to Yahweh. ⁵³ And forth is the servant bringing articles of silver and articles of gold and clothes, and is giving them to Rebecca. And token presents he gives to her brother and her mother. ⁵⁴ And eating are they and drinking, he and the mortals who are with him, and lodging. And rising are they in the morning, and saying is he, "Send me, and I will go to my lord. ⁵⁵ And saying are her brothers and her mother, "The maiden shall dwell with us two days or ten. And afterward she shall go. ⁵⁶ And saying is he to them, "You must not delay me when Yahweh prospers my way. Send me, and I will go to my lord. ⁵⁷ And saying are they, "We will call the maiden and ask at her mouth. ⁵⁸ And calling are they Rebecca and saying to her, "Will you go with this man?And saying is she, "I will go. ⁵⁹ And sending are they Rebecca, their sister, and her wet-nurse, and Abraham's servant and his mortals. ⁶⁰ And blessing are they Rebecca, their sister, and saying to her, "Our sister are you. May you become thousands of myriads, and may your seed tenant the gateway of those hating them. ⁶¹ And rising is Rebecca and her maidens, and they are riding on camels, and are going after the man. And taking is the servant Rebecca and is going. ⁶² Now Isaac comes into the wilderness, to the well Lehirai. And dwelling is he in the land of the south-rim. ⁶³ And forth is Isaac faring to worship in the field before the evening. And lifting is he his eyes and seeing. And behold! Camels are coming. ⁶⁴ And lifting is Rebecca her eyes and is seeing Isaac and is alighting off the camel. ⁶⁵ And saying is she to the servant, "What man is this going in the field to meet us?And saying is the servant, "He is my lord.And taking is she a veil and covering herself. ⁶⁶ And relating is the servant to Isaac all the things which he had done. ⁶⁷ And bringing her is Isaac to the tent of Sarah, his mother. And taking is he Rebecca, and becoming is she his wife, and he is loving her. And comforted is Isaac after the loss of his mother, Sarah.

³⁴ And coming is Esau to be forty years old when he is taking as wife Judith, the daughter of Beeri, the Hittite, and Bashemath, the daughter of Elon, the Hivite.

⁹ And saying is Esau, "Forsooth, mine is much, my brother. Be yours what is yours. ¹⁰ And saying is Jacob, "You must not, pray. Pray, if I find grace in your eyes, then take my present offering from my hand, for therefore I see your face, as if seeing the face of the Elohim, and accepting me are you. ¹¹ Take, pray, my blessing which I bring to you, for gracious to me is the Elohim in that it, forsooth, is all mine.And urging it on him is he, and he is taking it.

¹¹ And saying to them is Israel, their father, "If so, indeed, do this: Take from the pruned fruit trees of the land in your vessels, and take down to the man a present offering, a little balm and a little honey, perfume and labdanum, pistachio nuts and almonds.

²³ And seeing is Joseph Ephraim's sons to the third generation. Moreover, the sons of Machir, the son of Manasseh, were born on Joseph's knees.

¹⁴ Then Elohim spoke to Moses: I shall come to be just as I am coming to be. And He said: Thus shall you say to the sons of Israel, I-Shall-Come-to-Be has sent me to you. ¹⁵ And Elohim said further to Moses: Thus shall you say to the sons of Israel, Yahweh, the Elohim of your fathers, the Elohim of Abraham, the Elohim of Isaac and the Elohim of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name for the eon, and this the remembrance of Me for generation after generation.

⁷ From a false matter you shall be far; and the innocent and the righteous one you must not kill, for I shall not justify the wicked one. ⁸ You shall not take a bribe, for the bribe is blinding the unclosed eyes and is subverting the words of the righteous.

²⁹ O that their heart might become this way with them:to fear Me and to observe all My instructions all the days, that it might be well with them and with their sons for the eon.

¹⁹ You shall not turn aside the judgment; you shall neither recognize faces in partiality nor take a bribe, for the bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and subverts the words of the righteous.

¹ And the men of Ephraim say unto him, `What [is] this thing you have done to us--not to call for us when you did go to fight with Midian?' and they strive with him severely;" <sup>2</sup> and he said unto them, `What have I done now like you? are not the gleanings of Ephraim better than the harvest of Abi-Ezer? ³ Into your hand has Elohim given the heads of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb; and what have I been able to do like you?' Then their temper desisted from off him in his speaking this thing.

¹ And the men of Ephraim are called together, and pass over northward, and say to Jephthah, `Wherefore has you passed over to fight against the Bene-Ammon, and on us have not called to go with you? your house we burn over you with fire.. <sup>2</sup> And Jephthah said unto them, `A man of great strife I have been (I and my people) with the Bene-Ammon, and I call you, and you have not saved me out of their hand, ³ and I see that you are not a saviour, and I put my life in my hand, and pass over unto the Bene-Ammon, and Yahweh gives them into my hand--and why have you come up unto me this day to fight against me?. ⁴ And Jephthah gathered all the men of Gilead, and fights with Ephraim, and the men of Gilead smite Ephraim, because they said, `Fugitives of Ephraim [are] you Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim--in the midst of Manasseh.. <sup>5</sup> And Gilead captures the passages of the Jordan to Ephraim, and it has been, when [any of] the fugitives of Ephraim say, `Let me pass over,' and the men of Gilead say to him, `An Ephraimite you?' and he said, `No;. ⁶ that they say to him, `Say, I pray you, Shibboleth;' and he said, `Sibboleth,' and is not prepared to speak right--and they seize him, and slaughter him at the passages of the Jordan, and there fall at that time, of Ephraim, forty and two chiefs.

¹⁶ Ruth replied, You must not persuade me to forsake you, to turn away from following you; for wherever you go I shall go, and wherever you lodge I shall lodge. Your people will be my people, and your Elohim my Elohim.

³² and you have beheld an adversary [in My] habitation, in all that He does good with Israel, and there is not an old man in your house all the days. ³³ `And the man I cut not off of your from Mine altar, [is] to consume your eyes, and to grieve your soul; and all the increase of your house do die men;" ³⁴ and this [is] to you the sign that comes unto your two sons, unto Hophni and Phinehas--in one day they die both of them;" ³⁵ and I have raised up for Me a stedfast priest; as in My heart and in My soul he does do; and I have built for him a stedfast house, and he has walked up and down before Mine anointed all the days;"

³ and his sons have not walked in his ways, and turn aside after the dishonest gain, and take a bribe, and turn aside judgment.

³ `Lo, here [am] I; testify against me, over-against Yahweh, and over-against His anointed; whose ox have I taken, and whose ass have I taken, and whom have I oppressed; whom have I bruised, and of whose hand have I taken a ransom, and hide mine eyes with it? --and I restore to you..

³ And Jonathan makes--also David--a covenant, because he loves him as his own soul,

² and Jonathan son of Saul delighted exceedingly in David, and Jonathan declares to David, saying, `Saul my father is seeking to put you to death, and, now, take heed, I pray you, in the morning, and you have abode in a secret place, and been hidden,

¹⁷ and Jonathan adds to cause David to swear, because he loves him, for with the love of his own soul he has loved him.

⁷ And Saul said to his servants who are standing by him, `Hear, I pray you, you Benjamites; also to all of you does the son of Jesse give fields and vineyards! all of you he does appoint heads of thousands and heads of hundreds!" <sup>8</sup> for you have conspired all of you against me, and there is none uncovering mine ear about my son's covenanting with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you grieving for me, and uncovering mine ear, that my son has raised up my servant against me, to lie in wait as [at] this day.. <sup>9</sup> And answer does Doeg the Edomite, who is set over the servants of Saul, and said, `I have seen the son of Jesse coming in to Nob, unto Ahimelech son of Ahitub, ¹⁰ and he asks for him at Yahweh, and provision has given to him, and the sword of Goliath the Philistine has given to him. ¹¹ And the king sends to call Ahimelech son of Ahitub, the priest, and all the house of his father, the priests, who [are] in Nob, and they come all of them unto the king;"

¹⁶ And Jonathan son of Saul rises, and goes unto David to the forest, and strengthens his hand in Elohim,

¹⁷ And he said unto David, `More righteous you [are] than I; for you have done me good, and I have done you evil;"

³⁵ And David receives from her hand that which she has brought to him, and to her he has said, `Go up in peace to your house; see, I have hearkened to your voice, and accept your face.. ³⁶ And Abigail comes in unto Nabal, and lo, he has a banquet in his house, like a banquet of the king, and the heart of Nabal [is] glad within him, and he [is] drunk unto excess, and she has not declared to him anything, less or more, till the light of the morning. ³⁷ And it comes to pass in the morning, when the wine is gone out from Nabal, that his wife declares to him these things, and his heart dies within him, and he has been as a stone. ³⁸ And it comes to pass, [in] about ten days, that Yahweh smites Nabal, and he dies,

² and the Philistines follow Saul and his sons, and the Philistines smite Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, sons of Saul. ³ And the battle is hard against Saul, and the archers find him--men with bow--and he is pained greatly by the archers;"

²⁶ I am in distress for you, my brother Jonathan, Very pleasant wast you to me; Wonderful was your love to me, Above the love of women!"

¹⁴ And Abner said unto Joab, `Let the youths rise, I pray you, and they play before us;' and Joab said, `Let them rise.. ¹⁵ And they rise and pass over, in number twelve of Benjamin, even of Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, and twelve of the servants of David. ¹⁶ And they lay hold, each on the head of his companion, and his sword [is] in the side of his companion, and they fall together, and [one] calls that place Helkath-Hazzurim, which [is] in Gibeon, ¹⁷ and the battle is very hard on that day, and Abner is smitten, and the men of Israel, before the servants of David.

²³ and Joab and all the host that [is] with him have come, and they declare to Joab, saying, `Abner son of Ner has come unto the king, and he sends him away, and he goes in peace.. <sup>24</sup> And Joab comes unto the king, and said, `What have you done? lo, Abner has come unto you! why [is] this--you have sent him away, and he is really gone? ²⁵ You have known Abner son of Ner, that to deceive you he came, and to know your going out and your coming in, and to know all that you are doing..

³⁹ and I to-day [am] tender, and an anointed king:and these men, sons of Zeruiah, [are] too hard for me; Yahweh does recompense to the doer of the evil according to his evil..

¹ And David said, `Is there yet any left to the house of Saul, and I do with him kindness because of Jonathan?. <sup>2</sup> And the house of Saul has a servant, and his name [is] Ziba, and they call for him unto David; and the king said unto him, `Are you Ziba?' and he said, `Your servant.. <sup>3</sup> And the king said, `Is there not yet a man to the house of Saul, and I do with him the kindness of Elohim?' And Ziba said unto the king, `Jonathan has yet a son--lame.. <sup>4</sup> And the king said to him, `Where [is] he?' and Ziba said unto the king, `Lo, he [is] in the house of Machir, son of Ammiel, in Lo-Debar.. <sup>5</sup> And king David sends, and takes him out of the house of Machir son of Ammiel, of Lo-Debar, <sup>6</sup> and Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, son of Saul, comes unto David, and falls on his face, and does obeisance, and David said, `Mephibosheth;' and he said, `Lo, your servant.. <sup>7</sup> And David said to him, `Be not afraid; for I certainly do with you kindness because of Jonathan your father, and have given back to you all the field of Saul your father, and you do eat bread at my table continually.. ⁸ And he bows himself, and said, `What [is] your servant, that you have turned unto the dead dog--such as I?. <sup>9</sup> And the king calls unto Ziba servant of Saul, and said unto him, `All that was to Saul and to all his house, I have given to the son of your lord, ¹⁰ and you have served for him the land, you and your sons, and your servants, and have brought in, and there has been to the son of your lord bread, and he has eaten it; and Mephibosheth son of your lord does eat continually bread at my table;' and Ziba has fifteen sons and twenty servants. ¹¹ And Ziba said unto the king, `According to all that my lord the king commands his servant, so does your servant;' as to Mephibosheth, `he is eating at my table ([said the king]) as one of the sons of the king.. ¹² And Mephibosheth has a young son, and his name [is] Micha, and every one dwelling in the house of Ziba [are] servants to Mephibosheth. ¹³ And Mephibosheth is dwelling in Jerusalem, for at the table of the king he is eating continually, and he [is] lame of his two feet.

¹⁰ `And now, the sword does not turn aside from your house unto the eon, because you have despised Me, and do take the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be to you for a wife;"

¹ And it comes to pass afterwards that Absalom son of David has a fair sister, and her name [is] Tamar, and Amnon son of David loves her. ² And Amnon has distress--even to become sick, because of Tamar his sister, for she [is] a virgin, and it is hard in the eyes of Amnon to do anything to her. ³ And Amnon has a friend, and his name [is] Jonadab, son of Shimeah, David's brother, and Jonadab [is] a very wise man, ⁴ and said to him, `Wherefore [are] you thus lean, O king's son, morning by morning? do you not declare to me?' And Amnon said to him, `Tamar--sister of Absalom my brother--I am loving.. ⁵ And Jonadab said to him, `Lie down on your couch, and feign yourself sick, and your father has come in to see you, and you have said unto him, `Let, I pray you, Tamar my sister come in and give me bread to eat; and she has made the food before mine eyes so that I see [it], and have eaten from her hand.. ⁶ And Amnon lies down, and feigns himself sick, and the king comes in to see him, and Amnon said unto the king, `Let, I pray you, Tamar my sister come, and she makes before mine eyes two cakes, and I eat from her hand.. <sup>7</sup> And David sends unto Tamar, to the house, saying, `Go, I pray you, to the house of Amnon your brother, and make for him food.. ⁸ And Tamar goes to the house of Amnon her brother, and he is lying down, and she takes the dough, and kneads, and makes cakes before his eyes, and cooks the cakes, ⁹ and takes the frying-pan, and pours out before him, and he refuses to eat, and Amnon said, `Take you out every one from me;' and they go out every one from him. <sup>10</sup> And Amnon said unto Tamar, `Bring the food into the inner chamber, and I eat from your hand;' and Tamar takes the cakes that she has made, and brings in to Amnon her brother, into the inner chamber, ¹¹ and she brings nigh unto him to eat, and he lays hold on her, and said to her, `Come, lie with me, my sister.. <sup>12</sup> And she said to him, `Nay, my brother, do not humble me, for it is not done so in Israel; do not this folly. ¹³ And I--whither do I cause my reproach to go? and you--you are as one of the fools in Israel; and now, speak, I pray you, unto the king; for he does not withhold me from you.. ¹⁴ And he has not been willing to hearken to her voice, and is stronger than she, and humbles her, and lies with her. ¹⁵ And Amnon hates her--a very great hatred--that greater [is] the hatred with which he has hated her than the love with which he loved her, and Amnon said to her, `Rise, go.. <sup>16</sup> And she said to him, `Because of the circumstances this evil is greater than the other that you have done with me--to send me away;' and he has not been willing to hearken to her, ¹⁷ and calls his young man, his servant, and said, `Send away, I pray you, this one from me without, and bolt the door after her;. <sup>18</sup> --and upon her [is] a long coat, for such upper robes do daughters of the king who [are] virgins put on, --and his servant takes her out without, and has bolted the door after her. <sup>19</sup> And Tamar takes ashes for her head, and the long coat that [is] on her she has rent, and puts her hand on her head, and goes, going on and crying;" <sup>20</sup> and Absalom her brother said unto her, `Has Amnon your brother been with you? and now, my sister, keep silent, he [is] your brother; set not your heart to this thing;' and Tamar dwells--but desolate--in the house of Absalom her brother. ²¹ And king David has heard all these things, and it is very displeasing to him;" ²² and Absalom has not spoken with Amnon either evil or good, for Absalom is hating Amnon, because that he humbled Tamar his sister.

¹ And it comes to pass afterwards, that Absalom prepares for himself a chariot, and horses, and fifty men are running before him;"

¹² and Absalom sends Ahithophel the Gilonite, a counsellor of David, out of his city, out of Gilo, in his sacrificing sacrifices; and the conspiracy is strong, and the people are going and increasing with Absalom.

¹ And David has passed on a little from the top, and lo, Ziba, servant of Mephibosheth--to meet him, and a couple of asses saddled, and upon them two hundred loaves, and a hundred bunches of raisins, and a hundred [of] summer-fruit, and a bottle of wine. ² And the king said unto Ziba, `What--these to you?' and Ziba said, `The asses for the household of the king to ride on, and the bread and the summer-fruit for the young men to eat, and the wine for the wearied to drink in the wilderness.. ³ And the king said, `And where [is] the son of your lord?' and Ziba said unto the king, `Lo, he is abiding in Jerusalem, for he said, To-day do the house of Israel give back to me the kingdom of my father.. ⁴ And the king said to Ziba, `Lo, your [are] all that Mephibosheth has;' and Ziba said, `I have bowed myself--I find grace in your eyes, my lord, O king.. ⁵ And king David has come in unto Bahurim, and lo, thence a man is coming out, of the family of the house of Saul, and his name [is] Shimei, son of Gera, he comes out, coming out and reviling;" ⁶ and he stones David with stones, and all the servants of king David, and all the people, and all the mighty men on his right and on his left. ⁷ And thus said Shimei in his reviling, `Go out, go out, O man of blood, and man of worthlessness!"

⁷ And thus said Shimei in his reviling, `Go out, go out, O man of blood, and man of worthlessness!" ⁸ Yahweh has turned back on you all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose stead you have reigned, and Yahweh does give the kingdom in to the hand of Absalom your son; and lo, you [are] in your evil, for a man of blood you [are]..

⁸ And Hushai said, `You have known your father and his men, that they [are] heroes, and they are bitter in soul as a bereaved bear in a field, and your father [is] a man of war, and does not lodge with the people;"

¹⁵ And they go round--ten youths bearing weapons of Joab--and smite Absalom, and put him to death.

¹⁹ And Ahimaaz son of Zadok said, `Let me run, I pray you, and I bear the king tidings, for Yahweh has delivered him out of the hand of his enemies;.

³³ And the king trembles, and goes up on the upper chamber of the gate, and weeps, and thus he has said in his going, `My son! Absalom my son; my son Absalom; oh that I had died for you, Absalom, my son, my son..

⁷ `And now, rise, go out and speak unto the heart of your servants, for by Yahweh I have sworn, that--you are not going out--there does not lodge a man with you to-night; and this [is] worse for you than all the evil that has come upon you from your youth till now..

⁴¹ And, lo, all the men of Israel are coming unto the king, and they say unto the king, `Wherefore have they stolen you--our brethren, the men of Judah?' (and they bring the king and his household over the Jordan, and all the men of David with him).

¹ And there has been called there a man of worthlessness, and his name [is] Sheba, son of Bichri, a Benjamite, and he blows with a trumpet, and said, `We have no portion in David, and we have no inheritance in the son of Jesse; each to his tents, O Israel..

²² And the woman comes unto all the people in her wisdom, and they cut off the head of Sheba son of Bichri, and cast [it] unto Joab, and he blows with a trumpet, and they are scattered from the city, each to his tents, and Joab has turned back to Jerusalem unto the king.

¹ And there is a famine in the days of David three years, year after year, and David seeks the face of Yahweh, and Yahweh said, `For Saul and for the bloody house, because that he put to death the Gibeonites.. <sup>2</sup> And the king calls for the Gibeonites, and said unto them--as to the Gibeonites, they [are] not of the sons of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorite, and the sons of Israel had sworn to them, and Saul seeks to smite them in his zeal for the sons of Israel and Judah-. <sup>3</sup> yea, David said unto the Gibeonites, `What do I do for you? and with what do I make atonement? and bless you the inheritance of Yahweh.. ⁴ And the Gibeonites say to him, `We have no silver and gold by Saul and by his house, and we have no man to put to death in Israel;' and he said, `What you are saying I do to you.. ⁵ And they say unto the king, `The man who consumed us, and who devised against us--we have been destroyed from stationing ourselves in all the border of Israel-. <sup>6</sup> let there be given to us seven men of his sons, and we have hanged them before Yahweh, in the height of Saul, the chosen of Yahweh.' And the king said, `I do give;. ⁷ and the king has pity on Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, son of Saul, because of the oath of Yahweh that [is] between them, between David and Jonathan son of Saul;" ⁸ and the king takes the two sons of Rizpah daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth, and the five sons of Michal daughter of Saul whom she bare to Adriel son of Barzillai the Meholathite, ⁹ and gives them into the hand of the Gibeonites, and they hang them in the hill before Yahweh; and the seven fall together, and they have been put to death in the days of harvest, in the first [days], the commencement of barley-harvest. ¹⁰ And Rizpah daughter of Aiah takes the sackcloth, and stretches it out for herself on the rock, from the commencement of harvest till water has been poured out upon them from the heavens, and has not suffered a fowl of the heavens to rest upon them by day, or the beast of the field by night. ¹¹ And it is declared to David that which Rizpah daughter of Aiah, concubine of Saul, has done, ¹² and David goes and takes the bones of Saul, and the bones of Jonathan his son, from the possessors of Jabesh-Gilead, who had stolen them from the broad place of Beth-Shan, where the Philistines hanged them, in the day of the Philistines smiting Saul in Gilboa;" ¹³ and he brings up thence the bones of Saul, and the bones of Jonathan his son, and they gather the bones of those hanged, ¹⁴ and bury the bones of Saul and of Jonathan his son in the land of Benjamin, in Zelah, in the burying-place of Kish his father, and do all that the king commanded, and Elohim is entreated for the land afterwards.

³ He said--the Elohim of Israel--to me, He spoke--the Rock of Israel:He who is ruling over man [is] righteous, He is ruling in the fear of Elohim.

⁵ And Adonijah son of Haggith is lifting himself up, saying, `I do reign;' and he prepares for himself a chariot and horsemen, and fifty men running before him,

²⁴ and now, Yahweh lives, who has established me, and causes me to sit on the throne of David my father, and who has made for me an house as He spoke--surely to-day is Adonijah put to death.. ²⁵ And king Solomon sends by the hand of Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he falls upon him, and he dies.

³¹ And the king said to him, `Do as he has spoken, and fall upon him, and you have buried him, and turned aside the causeless blood which Joab shed, from off me, and from off the house of my father;"

⁴⁶ And the king charges Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he goes out and falls on him, and he dies, and the kingdom is established in the hand of Solomon.

¹² `Only, in your days I do it not, for the sake of David your father; out of the hand of your son I rend it;"

⁴ but for David's sake has Yahweh his Elohim given to him a lamp in Jerusalem, to raise up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem,

¹³ and two men--sons of worthlessness--come in, and sit over-against him, and the men of worthlessness testify of him, even Naboth, before the people, saying, `Naboth blessed Elohim and Melech;' and they take him out to the outside of the city, and stone him with stones, and he dies;"

⁶ and the king of Israel gathers the prophets, about four hundred men, and said unto them, `Do I go against Ramoth-Gilead to battle, or do I forbear?' and they say, `Go up, and the Lord does give [it] into the hand of the king.. ⁷ And Jehoshaphat said, `Is there not here a prophet of Yahweh besides, and we seek by him?. <sup>8</sup> And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, `Yet--one man to seek Yahweh by him, and I have hated him, for he does not prophesy concerning me good, but evil--Micaiah son of Imlah;' and Jehoshaphat said, `Let not the king say so.. <sup>9</sup> And the king of Israel calls unto a certain eunuch, and said, `Hasten Micaiah son of Imlah.. ¹⁰ And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah are sitting, each on his throne, clothed with garments, in a threshing-floor, at the opening of the gate of Samaria, and all the prophets are prophesying before them. ¹¹ And Zedekiah son of Chenaanah makes for himself horns of iron, and said, `Thus said Yahweh, By these you do push the Arameans till they are consumed;. <sup>12</sup> and all the prophets are prophesying so, saying, `Go up to Ramoth-Gilead, and prosper, and Yahweh has given [it] into the hand of the king.. ¹³ And the messenger who has gone to call Micaiah has spoken unto him, saying, `Lo, I pray you, the words of the prophets, with one mouth, [are] good towards the king; let it be, I pray you, your word as the word of one of them--and you have spoken good.. <sup>14</sup> And Micaiah said, `Yahweh lives; surely that which Yahweh said unto me--it I speak.. ¹⁵ And he comes in unto the king, and the king said unto him, `Micaiah, do we go unto Ramoth-Gilead, to battle, or do we forbear?' and he said unto him, `Go up, and prosper, and Yahweh has given [it] into the hand of the king.. ¹⁶ And the king said unto him, `How many times am I adjuring you that you speak nothing unto me but truth in the name of Yahweh?. <sup>17</sup> And he said, `I have seen all Israel scattered on the hills as sheep that have no shepherd, and Yahweh said, These have no master; they turn back each to his house in peace.. ¹⁸ And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, `Have I not said unto you, He does not prophesy of me good, but evil?. <sup>19</sup> And he said, `Therefore, hear a word of Yahweh; I have seen Yahweh sitting on His throne, and all the host of the heavens standing by Him, on His right and on His left;" ²⁰ and Yahweh said, Who does entice Ahab, and he does go up and fall in Ramoth-Gilead? and this one said thus, and that one is saying thus. ²¹ `And the spirit goes out, and stands before Yahweh, and said, I--I do entice him; and Yahweh said unto him, By what? <sup>22</sup> and he said, I go out, and have been a spirit of falsehood in the mouth of all his prophets; and He said, You do entice, and also you are able; go out and do so. <sup>23</sup> And now, lo, Yahweh has put a spirit of falsehood in the mouth of all these your prophets, and Yahweh has spoken concerning you--evil.. <sup>24</sup> And Zedekiah son of Chenaanah draws nigh, and smites Micaiah on the cheek, and said, `Where [is] this--he has passed over--the Spirit of Yahweh--from me to speak with you?. ²⁵ And Micaiah said, `Lo, you are seeing on that day, when you go in to the innermost chamber to be hidden.. <sup>26</sup> And the king of Israel said, `Take Micaiah, and turn him back unto Amon head of the city, and unto Joash son of the king, ²⁷ and you have said, Thus said the king, Place you this one in the house of restraint, and cause him to eat bread of oppression, and water of oppression, till my coming in peace.. ²⁸ And Micaiah said, `If you at all return in peace--Yahweh has not spoken by me;' and he said, `Hear, O peoples, all of them..

²⁴ And he looks behind him, and sees them, and declares them vile in the name of Yahweh, and two bears come out of the forest, and rend of them forty and two lads.

¹⁷ `And I have known, my Elohim, that You are trying the heart, and uprightness do desire; I, in the uprightness of my heart, have willingly offered all these:and now, Your people who are found here I have seen with joy to offer willingly to You.

¹⁴ and speaks unto them according to the counsel of the lads, saying, `My father made your yoke heavy, and I--I add unto it; my father chastised you with whips, and I--with scorpions.. <sup>15</sup> And the king has not hearkened unto the people, for the revolution has been from Elohim, for the sake of Yahweh's establishing His word that He spoke by the hand of Abijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam son of Nebat. <sup>16</sup> And all Israel have seen that the king has not hearkened to them, and the people send back [to] the king, saying, `What portion have we in David? yea, there is no inheritance in a son of Jesse; each to your tents, O Israel; now, see your house--David,' and all Israel go to their tents.

¹⁷ and Abijah and his people smite among them a great smiting, and there fall wounded of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

¹⁷ And Amaziah king of Judah takes counsel, and sends unto Joash son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, ¹⁸ `Come, we look one another in the face.' And Joash king of Israel sends unto Amaziah king of Judah, saying, `The thorn that [is] in Lebanon has sent unto the cedar that [is] in Lebanon, saying, Give your daughter to my son for a wife; and pass by does a beast of the field that [is] in Lebanon, and treads down the thorn. ¹⁹ You have said, Lo, I have smitten Edom; and your heart has lifted you up to boast; now, abide in your house, why do you stir yourself up in evil, that you have fallen, you, and Judah with you?. ²⁰ And Amaziah has not hearkened, for from Elohim it [is] in order to give them into hand, because they have sought the elohims of Edom;" ²¹ and go up does Joash king of Israel, and they look one another in the face, he and Amaziah king of Judah, in Beth-Shemesh, that [is] Judah's, ²² and Judah is smitten before Israel, and they flee--each to his tents. ²³ And Amaziah king of Judah, son of Joash, son of Jehoahaz, has Joash king of Israel caught in Beth-Shemesh, and brings him in to Jerusalem, and breaks down in the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the gate of the corner, four hundred cubits, ²⁴ and [takes] all the gold, and the silver, and all the vessels that are found in the house of Elohim with Obed-Edom, and the treasures of the house of the king, and the sons of the pledges, and turns back to Samaria.

⁶ And Pekah son of Remaliah slays in Judah a hundred and twenty thousand in one day (the whole [are] sons of valor), because of their forsaking Yahweh, Elohim of their fathers.

¹⁴ For if you keep silence, yea silence in this crisis, sustentation and rescue shall stand up for the Jews from another place; but you and your father's house, you shall perish. And who is there knowing whether it was for a crisis like this that you have attained to the royal position?

⁵ O that you would keep silent, yea silent, That would be wisdom for you.

²⁹ If I have rejoiced in the misfortune of the one hating me, And I have roused myself in joy because evil had overtaken hi.

¹² El, truly indeed He does not do wickedness, And He Who Suffices does not distort judgment.

¹⁸ Who says to a king, Worthless one, And to patrons, Wicked one, ¹⁹ Who does not repute chiefs, Nor is He partial to the rich-man above the poor,For they all are the work of His hands?

¹⁶ Job lived after this a hundred and forty years. And he saw his sons and his sons sons to four generations. ¹⁷ Then Job died, old and satisfied with days.

¹⁶ He sent from the height; He took me; He removed me from many waters;

²⁶ With the purified one You show Yourself pure, But with the perverse one You show Yourself cunning."

⁶ From the end of the heavens is its going forth, And its circling around goes on to their ends, So that nothing is being concealed from its warm penetration."

¹³ Be exalted, O Yahweh, in Your strength; We will sing and make melody concerning Your masterful deeds. {Permanent{ {Concerning the Hind of the Dawn{ "

¹⁵ My vigor is dried up like earthenware, And my tongue clings to my jaws; You bring me low to the soil of death."

² Test me, O Yahweh, and try me; Do refine my innermost being and my heart."

⁴ The voice of Yahweh sounds with vigor; The voice of Yahweh is filled with honor.

³ When I kept silent toward You, my bones became worn out With my roaring the entire day." ⁴ For by day and night, Your hand was heavy upon me; My freshness was turned into the droughts of summer. {Interlude{ "

¹² They are repaying me evil for good, Seeking bereavement to my soul."

¹⁶ Better are a few who are for the righteous one Than a throng of many wicked ones.

²⁰ Those repaying evil for good, They are my adversaries in my pursuit of the good."

¹⁶ Yet Elohim says to the wicked one, What is it to you to recount My statutes, Or that you bear My covenant on your mouth? ¹⁷ For you, you hate admonition, And you fling My words behind you."

¹² For it is not an enemy who is reproaching me; Then I could bear it; It is not one hating me who magnifies himself against me; Then I could conceal myself from him; ¹³ But it is you, a mortal of my own rank, My mentor and my close acquaintance." ¹⁴ We who together made sweet deliberation, We walked with the foregathering crowd in the House of Elohim." ¹⁵ May death lure them away; May they descend to the unseen alive, For evils are among them in their sojourning."

¹⁰ For You test us, O Elohim; You refine us like refined silver."

⁹ For the zeal of Your House, it devours me, And the reproaches of those reproaching You, they fall on me."

¹¹ Yet My people would not hearken to My voice, And Israel would not comply with Me." ¹² So I let them go in the obduracy of their own heart; They went in their own counsels. ¹³ O that My people were hearkening to Me, And Israel were walking in My ways!"

³ I shall not set a worthless matter in front of my eyes; I hate the doing of those who swerve; It shall not cling to me. ⁴ A perverse heart, it shall withdraw from me; Evil I shall not know." ⁵ The one slandering his associate in secret, I shall efface him. The haughty of eyes and inflated of heart, I shall not endure him."

³ For my days vanish like smoke, And my bones burn hot like glowing embers." ⁴ My heart is smitten and is drying up like herbage, For I forget to eat my bread." ⁵ Because of the sound of my sighing My bones cling to my flesh.

⁴ In return for my love they are my adversaries, Even while I was in prayer." ⁵ They bring evil upon me in return for good, And hatred in return for my love." ⁶ Post a wicked person over him, And let an adversary stand at his right hand." ⁷ When he is judged, let him go forth condemned, And let his prayer be seen as sin." ⁸ May his days come to be few; May his supervision be taken by another. ⁹ May his sons become orphans, And his wife a widow." ¹⁰ May his sons rove, yea rove so that they must beg, And may they be driven out from their deserted homes." ¹¹ May the creditor confiscate all that he has, And may aliens plunder the fruit of his labor." ¹² There must not be anyone being indulgent with kindness to him, And there must not be anyone showing grace to his orphans." ¹³ May his posterity be cut off; In the generation following, may his name be wiped out."

³⁷ Avert my eyes from looking at futile things; Revive me in Your way.

³ Behold, sons are an allotment from Yahweh; The fruit of the belly is a reward." ⁴ Like arrows in the hand of a master, So are the sons of youthful parents." ⁵ Happy is the master who fills his quiver with them; They shall not be ashamed When they are speaking with enemies in the gateway.

³ Your wife will be like a fruitful vine In the recesses of your house, Your sons like transplanted olive shoots Round about your table." ⁴ Behold that so a master is being blessed, Who is fearing Yahweh." ⁵ May Yahweh bless you from Zion; Thus see the goodness of Jerusalem All the days of your life, ⁶ And see the sons of your sons. Peace be on Israel.

⁵ Should the righteous one beat me, it were a kindness, And should he reprove me; it were oil on my head; May my head not repudiate it at all. But still, my prayer is against their evil deeds;"

²² How long, O simple ones, shall you love simplicity, And mockers covet their mocking, And the stupid hate knowledge? ²³ May you turn back at my correction; Behold, let me utter what is in my spirit to you; Let me make known my words to you."

³² For the devious man is an abhorrence to Yahweh, Yet His intimacy is with the upright."

¹ My son, if you have become surety for your associate, And you have clasped your palms with a stranger, ² If you have been trapped by words of your mouth, Have been seized by sayings of your mouth, ³ Do this, indeed, my son and rescue yourself Since you have come into the palm of your associate:Go, bestir yourself and beset your associate;" ⁴ Do not grant sleep to your eyes Or slumber to your eyelids; ⁵ Rescue yourself like a gazelle from the hunter, And like a bird from the hand of the trapper."

¹² A worthless human, a lawless man Is one who goes about with a perverse mouth, ¹³ Who winks with his eyes, who declares with his feet, Who signals with his fingers;" ¹⁴ Duplicity is in his heart; It is engrossed with evil all the time; It is instigating quarrels. ¹⁵ Therefore calamity for him shall come suddenly; He shall be broken instantly, and there will be no healing." ¹⁶ These are six things Yahweh hates, Even seven that are abhorrences to His soul:"

¹⁴ The sacrifices of peace offerings were due from me; Today I paid my vows.

⁴ To you, O men, I am calling And raising my voice to the sons of humanity;" ⁵ To the simple:Understand prudence; And to the stupid:Understand heart wisdom.

¹³ The fear of Yahweh means to hate evil; Pride and pomp and the way of evil And a mouth of duplicity I hate.

⁴ Whoever is simple, let him withdraw hither, She says to him who has lack of heart wisdom." ⁵ Come, dine on my bread, And drink of the wine I have blended." ⁶ Forsake your simple ways and live, And progress in the way of understanding."

⁸ Do not reprove a mocker lest he should hate you; Reprove a wise man, and he shall love you." ⁹ Give reproof to a wise man, and he shall be wiser still; Inform a righteous man, and he shall add to his education."

¹ Proverbs of Solomon:A wise son makes his father rejoice, Yet a stupid son is affliction to his mother."

⁵ He who hoards food in the summer is a son of intelligence; He who is in a stupor in the harvest is a son of shame.

¹⁰ He who winks the eye is making grief, And the one foolish of lips shall flounder."

¹² Hatred, it rouses up quarrels, Yet love covers over all transgressions."

¹⁴ Wise men, they store up knowledge, Yet the mouth of a foolish man brings dismay near."

¹⁹ In the multiplying of words, transgression does not halt, Yet he who keeps back his lips is intelligent."

³¹ The mouth of the righteous is producing wisdom, Yet the tongue of duplicity shall be cut off."

¹ Deceitful scales are an abhorrence to Yahweh, Yet an equitable standard weight is acceptable to Him."

¹⁵ He shall be imperiled with evil when one is surety for an alien, Yet he who hates clasping a pledger's hand dwells in trust."

Your father--did he not eat and drink? Yea, he did judgment and righteousness, Then [it is] well with him."

⁹ And I will bring the third into the fire. And I will refine them as silver is refined. And I will test them as gold is tested. It shall call in My name, and I will answer it. I will say, My people is it. And it will say, Yahweh is my Elohim."

² Yet who will endure the day of His coming? And who will stand when He appears? For He is coming like a refiner's fire, and as launderers' soap." ³ And he shall sit as a refiner and cleanser of silver and gold. And he shall cleanse the sons of Levi, and cupel them as gold and as silver. And they shall come to be for Yahweh, bringing close the approach present in righteousness."

¹⁶ Then Herod, perceiving that he was scoffed at by the magi, was very furious, and, dispatching, he massacred all the boys in Bethlehem and in all its boundaries, from two years and below, according to the time which he ascertains exactly from the magi.

³⁹ Yet I am saying to you not to withstand a wicked person, but anyone who slaps you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also. ⁴⁰ And he who wants to sue you and obtain your tunic, leave him your cloak also. ⁴¹ And anyone who conscripts you one mile, go with him two.

⁵ Hypocrite! Extract first the beam out of your eye, and then you will be keen-sighted to be extracting the mote out of your brother's eye."

Brethren! You are versed in the fact that from the days at the beginning God chooses among you, that through my mouth the nations are to hear the word of the evangel and believe." ⁸ And God, the Knower of hearts, testifies to them, giving the holy spirit according as to us also, ⁹ and in nothing discriminates between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith." ¹⁰ Why, then, are you now trying God, by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we are strong enough to bear? ¹¹ But through the grace of the Lord Jesus we are believing, to be saved in a manner even as they." ¹² Now the entire multitude hushes, and they heard Barnabas and Paul unfolding whatever signs and miracles God does among the nations through them." ¹³ Now after they hush, James answered saying, "Men! Brethren! Hear me!" ¹⁴ Simon unfolds how God first visits the nations, to obtain out of them a people for His name." ¹⁵ And with this agree the words of the prophets, according as it is written, ¹⁶ After these things I will turn back, 'And I will rebuild the tabernacle of David which has fallen... And its overturned structure will I rebuild, And I will re-erect it... " ¹⁷ So that those left of mankind should be seeking out the Lord, And all the nations, on them over whom My name is invoked, Is saying the Lord, Who is doing these things.'" ¹⁸ Known from the eon to the Lord is His work. ¹⁹ Wherefore I decide not to be harassing those from the nations who are turning back to God, ²⁰ but to write an epistle to them to be abstaining from ceremonial pollution with idols, and prostitution, and what is strangled, and blood." ²¹ For Moses, from ancient generations, city by city, has those who are heralding him, being read on every sabbath in the synagogues."

²⁶ saying, 'Go to this people and say, "In hearing, you will be hearing, and may by no means be understanding, And observing, you will be observing, and may by no means be perceiving, ²⁷ For stoutened is the heart of this people, And with their ears heavily they hear, And with their eyes they squint, Lest at some time they may be perceiving with their eyes, And with their ears should be hearing, And with their heart may be understanding, And should be turning about, And I shall be healing them.'"
