¹³ Because of the sins of her prophets, the depravities of her priests, Who were pouring out within her the blood of the righteous,

²⁰ For from of old you have broken your yoke, Drawn away your bands, and say, `I do not serve,' For, on every high height, and under every green tree, You are wandering--a harlot."

³¹ The prophets have prophesied falsely, And the priests bear rule by their means, And My people have loved [it] so, And what do they at its latter end?

¹³ For from their least unto their greatest, Every one is gaining dishonest gain, And from prophet even unto priest, Every one is dealing falsely,

¹⁴ And Yahweh said unto me:Falsehood the prophets are prophesying in My name, I did not send them, nor command them, Nor have I spoken unto them:A false vision, and divination, and vanity, And the deceit of their own heart, they are prophesying to you."

¹¹ For both prophet and priest have been profane, Yea, in My house I found their wickedness, An affirmation of Yahweh." ¹² Therefore is their way to them as slippery places, Into thick darkness they are driven, And they have fallen in it, For I bring in against them evil, The year of their inspection, An affirmation of Yahweh." ¹³ And in prophets of Samaria I have seen folly, They have prophesied by Baal, And cause my people--Israel--to err." ¹⁴ And in prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a horrible thing, Committing adultery, and walking falsely, Yea, they strengthened the hands of evil doers, So that they have not turned back Each from his wickedness, They have been to me--all of them--as Sodom, And its inhabitants as Gomorrah." ¹⁵ Therefore, thus said Yahweh of Hosts, concerning the prophets:Lo, I am causing them to eat wormwood, And have caused them to drink water of gall, For, from prophets of Jerusalem Has profanity gone forth to all the land." ¹⁶ Thus said Yahweh of Hosts:You do not hearken unto the words Of the prophets who are prophesying to you, They are making you vain things, A vision of their own heart they speak, Not from the mouth of Yahweh." ¹⁷ Saying diligently to those despising The word of Yahweh:Peace is for you, And [to] every one walking in the stubbornness of his heart they have said:Evil does not come in unto you." ¹⁸ For who has stood in the counsel of Yahweh, And sees and hears His word? Who has regarded My word, and hearkens? ¹⁹ Lo, a whirlwind of Yahweh--Fury has gone out, even a piercing whirlwind, On the head of the wicked it stays." ²⁰ The anger of Yahweh does not turn back Till His doing, and till His establishing, The thoughts of His heart, In the latter end of the days you attend to it With understanding." ²¹ I have not sent the prophets, and they have run, I have not spoken unto them, and they have prophesied."

⁸ And it comes to pass, at the completion of Jeremiah's speaking all that Yahweh has commanded him to speak unto all the people, that the priests, and the prophets, and all the people catch him, saying, You do surely die, ⁹ Wherefore have you prophesied in the name of Yahweh, saying, `As Shiloh this house shall be, and this city is wasted, without inhabitant?' and all the people are assembled unto Jeremiah in the house of Yahweh."

¹⁴ Your prophets envision for you futility and trumpery, And they do not expose your depravity to reverse your captivity, But they are envisioning for you loads of futility and false inducements."

²⁶ Its priests have wronged My law, And they pollute My holy things, Between holy and common they have not made separation, And between the unclean and the clean they have not made known, And from my sabbaths they have hidden their eyes, And I am pierced in their midst." ²⁷ Its princes in its midst [are] as wolves, Tearing prey, to shed blood, to destroy souls, For the sake of gaining dishonest gain." ²⁸ And its prophets have daubed for them with chalk, Seeing a vain thing, and divining for them a lie, Saying, `Thus said the Lord Yahweh:' And Yahweh has not spoken."

¹¹ her heads are judging for a bribe, and her priests are directing for a price, and her prophets are divining for money, and on Yahweh they are leaning, saying:Is not Yahweh within us? Evil shall not come on us." ¹² Wherefore, due to you, Zion shall be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become rubbish heaps, and the mountain of the house fane heights of a wildwood."

³ Her chiefs within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they pick clean, leaving nothing for the morning." ⁴ Her prophets are ebullient, treacherous mortals; her priests profane the holy place; they wrong the law."

³¹ So that you are testifying to yourselves that you are the sons of those who murder the prophets.

³³ Serpents! Progeny of vipers! How may you be fleeing from the judging of Gehenna? ³⁴ Therefore, lo! I am dispatching to you prophets and wise men and scribes. Of them, some you will be killing and crucifying, and of them, some you will be scourging in your synagogues and persecuting from city to city, ³⁵ so that on you should be coming all the just blood shed on the earth, from the blood of just Abel until the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murder between the temple and the altar." ³⁶ Verily, I am saying to you: All these things will be arriving on this generation." ³⁷ Jerusalem! Jerusalem! who art killing the prophets and pelting with stones those who have been dispatched to her! How many times do I want to assemble your children in the manner a hen is assembling her brood under her wings-and you will not!"

⁴⁷ Woe to you! for you are building the tombs of the prophets, yet your fathers kill them." ⁴⁸ Consequently you are witnesses and are endorsing the acts of your fathers, for they, indeed, kill them, yet you are building their tombs." ⁴⁹ Therefore, also, God's Wisdom said, 'I shall be dispatching to them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will be killing and banishing,'" ⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets which is shed from the disruption of the world may be exacted from this generation, ⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the house. Yea, I am saying to you, It will be exacted from this generation!"

⁵² Which of the prophets do not your fathers persecute? And they kill those who announce before concerning the coming of the Just One, of Whom now you became the traitors and murderers -"

¹⁵ who kill the Lord Jesus as well as the prophets, and banish us, and are not pleasing to God, and are contrary to all men, ¹⁶ forbidding us to speak to the nations that they may be saved, to fill up their sins always. Yet the indignation outstrips to them to a consummation."
