¹ And coming is the word of Yahweh to Jonah, son of Amittai, saying:" ² Rise! Go to Nineveh, the great city, and call out against it, for the cry of their evil ascends before Me." ³ Yet Jonah is rising to run away to Tharshish from before Yahweh, and is going down to Joppa. And he is finding a ship coming in for Tharshish. And he is giving its fare, and is going down into it to come with them to Tharshish, away from before Yahweh." ⁴ Then Yahweh casts forth a great wind to the sea, and a great tempest is coming on the sea, and the ship reckons to be broken." ⁵ And the mariners are fearing, and they are crying out, each man to his elohim. And they are casting forth the gear, which is in the ship, into the sea, to be lightened of them. And Jonah descended into the recesses of the lower deck, and he is lying down, and is stupefied." ⁶ Yet the navigator is coming near to him, and is saying to him, What is it to you, stupefied one! Rise! Call to your Elohim! Perhaps the Elohim will reconsider as to us, and we will not perish." ⁷ And they are saying, each man to his associate, Go, and let us cast lots that we may know on whose account this evil is with us. So they are casting lots, and the lot is falling on Jonah." ⁸ Then they are saying to him, Tell us, pray, on whose account is this evil with us? What is your work, and whence are you coming? What is your land, and where, from which people are you? ⁹ And he is saying to them, a Hebrew am I, and I fear Yahweh, the Elohim of the heavens, Who made the sea and the dry land." ¹⁰ Then the men are fearing with great fear, and they are saying to him, What is this you have done? For the men know that from before Yahweh is he running away, for he had told them." ¹¹ And they are saying to him, What shall we do to you that the sea will be calm for us? For the sea is running and tempestuous." ¹² And Jonah is saying to them, Lift me up and cast me forth into the sea, and the sea will be calm for you, for I am knowing that it is on my account that this great tempest is coming on you." ¹³ Yet the men are tugging hard to turn back to the dry land, yet they cannot, for the sea is running and tempestuous against them." ¹⁴ Then they are calling to Yahweh and saying, Oh Yahweh, pray, we must not perish for the soul of this man. And You must not lay on us innocent blood, for You, Yahweh, just as You incline, You do." ¹⁵ And they are lifting Jonah and casting him forth into the sea. And the sea is standing still from its turbulence. ¹⁶ And the men are fearing Yahweh with great fear, and they are sacrificing a sacrifice to Yahweh, and they are vowing vows." ¹⁷ And Yahweh is assigning a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah is coming to be in the bowels of the fish three days and three nights.

²¹ And creating is the Elohim great monsters and every living moving soul, with which the water roams, for their from-kind, and every winged flyer for its from-kind. And seeing is the Elohim that it is good.

⁸ And hearing are they the sound of Yahweh Elohim walking in the garden in the windy part of the day. And hiding themselves are the human and his wife from the face of Yahweh Elohim, in the midst of a tree of the garden."

¹⁶ And forth is Cain faring from before Yahweh Elohim, and is dwelling in the land of Nod, east of Eden.

²⁰ And building is Noah an altar to Yahweh Elohim, and taking is he of every clean beast, and of every clean flyer, and is offering up ascent offerings on the altar.

⁶ The shedder of the blood of a human, by a human his blood shall be shed, for in the image of the Elohim has He made humanity.

¹¹ (From that land fares forth Ashur, and building is he Nineveh and Rehoboth city, and Calah,

¹³ And coming is one who was delivered, and he is telling Abram, the Hebrew. Now he is tabernacling among the oaks of Mamre, the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner. And they are possessors of a covenant with Abram.

²⁰ And saying is Yahweh, "Seeing that the outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is much, and that their sin is exceedingly heavy, ²¹ descend will I, pray, and see, do they according to all the cry which is coming to Me? And if not, I will know.

²¹ Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and, by a strong east wind all the night, Yahweh caused the sea to go. Thus He made in the sea a drained area when the waters were split apart.

¹⁰ You made a breeze with Your wind; the sea covered them. They submerged as lead in the noble waters.

³¹ A wind journeyed from Yahweh and sheered quail from the sea and let go of them over the camp about a day's way thus and a day's way thus around the camp, and they fell about two cubits deep over the surface of the earth.

²³ Yet if you shall not do so, behold, you will have sinned against Yahweh; realize that your sin shall find you.

⁸ Make a propitiatory shelter for Your people, Israel, whom You have ransomed, Yahweh, and let not guilt for the blood of the innocent remain among Your people, Israel. Thus a propitiatory shelter for them will be made concerning this bloodshed.

¹⁰ And Yahweh said unto Joshua, `Rise for you, why [is] this? --you [are] falling on your face?

¹² and the sons of Israel have not been able to stand before their enemies; the neck they turn before their enemies, for they have become a devoted thing; I add not to be with you--if you destroy not the devoted thing out of your midst. ¹³ `Rise, sanctify the people, and you have said, Sanctify yourselves for to-morrow; for thus said Yahweh, Elohim of Israel, A devoted thing [is] in your midst, O Israel, you are not able to stand before your enemies till your turning aside of the devoted thing out of your midst;" <sup>14</sup> and you have been brought near in the morning by your tribes, and it has been, the tribe which Yahweh does capture does draw near by families, and the family which Yahweh does capture does draw near by households, and the household which Yahweh does capture does draw near by men;" <sup>15</sup> and it has been, he who is captured with the devoted thing is burnt with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed the covenant of Yahweh, and because he has done folly in Israel.. <sup>16</sup> And Joshua rises early in the morning, and brings Israel near by its tribes, and the tribe of Judah is captured;" <sup>17</sup> and he brings near the family of Judah, and he captures the family of the Zarhite; and he brings near the family of the Zarhite by men, and Zabdi is captured;" <sup>18</sup> and he brings near his household by men, and Achan--son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah--is captured. <sup>19</sup> And Joshua said unto Achan, `My son, put, I pray you, honor on Yahweh, Elohim of Israel, and give to Him thanks, and declare, I pray you, to me, what you have done--hide not from me.. ²⁰ And Achan answers Joshua, and said, `Truly I have sinned against Yahweh, Elohim of Israel, and thus and thus I have done;" ²¹ and I see among the spoil a goodly robe of Shinar, and two hundred shekels of silver, and one wedge of gold, whose weight [is] fifty shekels, and I desire them, and take them; and lo, they [are] hid in the earth, in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it..

¹⁶ `Thus said all the company of Yahweh, What [is] this trespass which you have trespassed against the Elohim of Israel, to turn back to-day from after Yahweh, by your building for you an altar, for your rebelling to-day against Yahweh? <sup>17</sup> Is the iniquity of Peor little to us, from which we have not been cleansed till this day--and the plague is in the company of Yahweh, <sup>18</sup> that you turn back to-day from after Yahweh? and it has been--you rebel to-day against Yahweh--and to-morrow against all the company of Israel He is wroth. <sup>19</sup> `And surely, if the land of your possession is unclean, pass over for you unto the land of the possession of Yahweh, where the tabernacle of Yahweh has tabernacled, and have possession in our midst; and against Yahweh rebel not, and against us rebel not, by your building for you an altar, besides the altar of Yahweh our Elohim. ²⁰ Did not Achan son of Zerah commit a trespass in the devoted thing, and on all the company of Israel there was wrath? and he alone expired not in his iniquity..

¹³ And Gideon comes in, and lo, a man is recounting to his companion a dream, and said, `Lo, a dream I have dreamed, and lo, a cake of barley-bread is turning itself over into the camp of Midian, and it comes in unto the tent, and smites it, and it falls, and turns it upwards, and the tent has fallen.. <sup>14</sup> And his companion answers and said, `This is nothing save the sword of Gideon son of Joash, a man of Israel; Elohim has given into his hand Midian and all the camp..

¹⁶ And the messenger of Yahweh said unto Manoah, `If you detain me--I do not eat of your bread; and if you prepare a burnt-offering--to Yahweh you do offer it;' for Manoah has not known that He [is] a messenger of Yahweh.

¹⁹ and she makes him sleep on her knees, and calls for a man, and shaves the seven locks of his head, and begins to afflict him, and his power turns aside from off him;"

³⁸ And Saul said, `Draw you nigh hither all, the chiefs of the people, and know and see in what this sin has been to-day;" ³⁹ for, Yahweh lives, who is saving Israel:surely if it be in Jonathan my son, surely he does certainly die;' and none is answering him out of all the people.

⁴¹ And Saul said unto Yahweh, Elohim of Israel, `Give perfection;' and Jonathan and Saul are captured, and the people went out. <sup>42</sup> And Saul said, `Cast between me and Jonathan my son;' and Jonathan is captured. ⁴³ And Saul said unto Jonathan, `Declare to me, what have you done?' and Jonathan declares to him, and said, `I certainly tasted with the end of the rod that [is] in my hand a little honey; lo, I die!.

³ and he comes in unto folds of the flock, on the way, and there [is] a cave, and Saul goes in to cover his feet; and David and his men in the sides of the cave are abiding.

And the king said, `I do give;.

⁸ and the king takes the two sons of Rizpah daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth, and the five sons of Michal daughter of Saul whom she bare to Adriel son of Barzillai the Meholathite, ⁹ and gives them into the hand of the Gibeonites, and they hang them in the hill before Yahweh; and the seven fall together, and they have been put to death in the days of harvest, in the first [days], the commencement of barley-harvest.

³ And Joab said unto the king, `Yea, Yahweh your Elohim does add unto the people, as they are, a hundred times, and the eyes of my lord the king are seeing; and my lord the king, why is he desirous of this thing?.

¹⁷ And David speaks unto Yahweh, when he sees the messenger who is smiting among the people, and said, `Lo, I have sinned, yea, I have done perversely; and these--the flock--what have they done? Let, I pray You, Your hand be on me, and on the house of my father..

²⁶ And they take the bullock that [one] gave to them, and prepare, and call in the name of Baal from the morning even till the noon, saying, `O Baal, answer us!' and there is no voice, and there is none answering; and they leap on the altar that one had made.

¹⁷ And Naaman said, `If not--let be given, I pray you, to your servant, a couple of mules' burden of earth, for your servant does make no more burnt-offering and sacrifice to other elohims, but to Yahweh.

²⁵ He has brought back the border of Israel, from the entering in of Hamath unto the sea of the desert, according to the word of Yahweh, Elohim of Israel, that He spoke by the hand of His servant Jonah son of Amittai the prophet, who [is] of Gath-Hepher,

²⁸ And one of the priests whom they removed from Samaria comes in, and dwells in Beth-El, and he is teaching them how they do fear Yahweh,

³² And they are fearing Yahweh, and make to themselves from their extremities priests of high places, and they are acting for them in the house of the high places. ³³ Yahweh they are fearing, and their elohims they are serving, according to the custom of the nations whence they removed them. ³⁴ Unto this day they are doing according to the former customs--they are not fearing Yahweh, and are not doing according to their statutes, and according to their ordinances, and according to the law, and according to the command, that Yahweh commanded the sons of Jacob whose name He made Israel, ³⁵ and Yahweh makes with them a covenant, and charges them, saying, `You do not fear other elohims, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them,

³⁶ And Sennacherib king of Asshur journeys, and goes, and turns back, and dwells in Nineveh;"

¹⁷ And David said unto Elohim, `Did not I--I say to number the people? Yea, I it [is] who have sinned, and done great evil:and these, the flock, what did they? O Yahweh, my Elohim, let, I pray You, Your hand be on me, and on the house of my father, and not on Your people--to be plagued..

¹⁶ and we--we cut trees out of Lebanon, according to all your need, and bring them in to you--floats by sea, to Joppa, and you do take them up to Jerusalem..

² Thus speaks Cyrus king of Persia:Yahweh Elohim of the heavens has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, and He Himself has committed to me to build for Him a House in Jerusalem, which is in Judah.

¹¹ This is the rescript of what they replied to us saying:We are the servants of Him Who is Eloah of the heavens and the earth. And we are rebuilding the House that had been built a huge number of years before this, when a great king of Israel built it and completed it.

⁷ In the first month, that is, the month of Nisan, in the twelfth year of king Xerxes, someone cast pur (that is, the lot) before Haman from day to day and from month to month, to the twelfth, that is, the month of Adar.

¹⁶ Go, collect together all the Jews who are to be found in Susa, and fast on my behalf. Do not eat and do not drink for three days, night and day. I too with my maidens shall fast likewise. In this way I shall come in to the king, even though it is not according to the edict. And if I should perish, I shall perish.

¹³ I shall come to Your House with ascent offerings. I shall pay my vows to You, ¹⁴ Concerning which my lips opened wide, And my mouth spoke in my distress." ¹⁵ Ascent offerings of the full-fed shall I bring up to You With the fumes of rams. I shall offer the ox with he-goats. {Interlude{ ¹⁶ Come, hear, all who fear Elohim, And let me recount what He does for my soul."

³⁴ Whenever He killed them, then they sought after Him, And they returned and sought early for El."

⁹ You are Ruler over the swelling sea; When its billows are lifted, You becalm them."

³ The streams lift up, O Yahweh, The streams lift up their voice; The streams shall lift up their crushing waves." ⁴ Greater than the sounds of mighty waters, Nobler than the breakers of the sea, Is Yahweh noble in the height."

⁵ Whose is the sea, for He Himself has made it, And the dry land that His hands have formed." ⁶ Come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before Yahweh, our Maker."

²⁵ This sea, great and wide on all hands; The creeper is there, and it is numberless, Animals, both small and great;" ²⁶ The sea monsters are going there, The dragon that You have formed to gambol in it."

²² And let them sacrifice sacrifices of acclamation And recount His deeds with jubilant song. ²³ Those going down to the sea in ships, Who do their work on vast waters, ²⁴ They have seen the deeds of Yahweh, And His marvelous works in the shadowy deep." ²⁵ He spoke and recruited a tempestuous wind, And it raised its billows high." ²⁶ They ascended to the heavens; they descended to the abyss; Their soul dissolved because of the peril. ²⁷ They circled and staggered like a drunkard, And all their wisdom was swallowed up." ²⁸ Then they cried out to Yahweh in their distress, And He brought them forth from their constraints."

²⁶ Give acclamation to the El of the heavens, For His benignity is eonian."

⁷ Whither could I go from Your spirit, And whither could I run away from Your presence? ⁸ If I should climb to the heavens, You are there, And should I make my berth in the unseen, behold, You are there." ⁹ Should I wear the wings of dawn, Should I tabernacle in the hindmost sea, ¹⁰ Even there Your hand would guide me, And Your right hand, it would hold me." ¹¹ If I said, Surely darkness, it snuffed me up, And night is belted about me, ¹² Even darkness, it is not darkening to You, And the night, as the day, is giving light; Darkness is as light."

⁵ Happy is he who has the El of Jacob as his Help; His hopefulness is set on Yahweh his Elohim, ⁶ Maker of the heavens and earth, The sea and all that is in them, The Guardian of truth for the eons;"

³³ It is the lot that is cast forth in the bosom; Yet from Yahweh is its every judgment.

³⁰ There is no wisdom, there is no comprehension, And there is no counsel in confronting Yahweh."

⁴ When you vow a vow to Elohim, do not delay to pay it, For there is no delight in those who are stupid; That which you vow, pay."

¹⁸ Wisdom is better than implements of attack, Yet one sinner destroys much good."

¹⁶ and on all the ships of Tharshish, and on all the displays of coveted boats."

¹⁵ What is it to you that you are crushing My people, and the faces of the humble are grinding?Averring is my Lord, Yahweh of hosts."

¹ LOAD OF TYRE Howl! Ships of Tharshish. For it is devastated of house and entry. They come no longer from the land of Kittim. A deportation has arrived also to them.

⁶ they pass it through toward Tharshish; they will howl! Dwellers of the coastland!

¹⁰ Pass! Serve your land as a waterway, daughter of Tharshish. There is no use for ships any longer."

⁹ With my soul I yearn for You in the night. Indeed, with my spirit within me I will seek You early. For as a light are Your judgments to the earth, the dwellers of the habitance learn righteousness."

¹⁶ Yahweh, in distress they note You. Distress, as a whisper, is Your discipline for them."

⁶ Each man is helping his associate, and to his brother is he saying, `Courage!'" <sup>7</sup> And the artificer is encouraging the refiner, the apportioner with the sledge, the hammerer on the anvil. One says of the soldering, `It is good!' And one is fortifying it with nails that it will not slip."

¹⁷ And the remnant of it he makes into an el. To a decaying tree, to it is he falling on his knees and face. And he is worshiping, and praying to it, and saying, `Rescue me, for my el are you!'" ¹⁸ They do not know, nor are they understanding, for He plasters their eyes, from seeing, and their hearts, from intelligence." ¹⁹ And he is not recalling to his heart, and no knowledge is there, nor understanding to say, "Half of it I burned up in the fire, and, indeed, I baked on its embers bread, roasting flesh and eating. And the rest of it I am making into an abhorrence. To a decaying tree am I falling on my knees and face!" ²⁰ Grazing on ashes, a trifling heart turns him aside. And he is not rescuing his soul, nor is he saying, "Is not a falsehood in my right hand?

They shall ascend with acceptance on My altar, and My house of prayer will I beautify."

⁹ For to Me the boats of the coastlands are stretching, and the ships of Tharshish among the first, to bring your sons from afar, their silver and their gold with them, to the name of Yahweh, your Elohim, and to the Holy One of Israel, for He beautifies you."

⁷ And Yahweh said unto me, `Do not say, I [am] a youth, for to all to whom I send you you go, and all that I command you you speak." <sup>8</sup> Be not afraid of their faces, for with you [am] I to deliver you, --an affirmation of Yahweh.'" <sup>9</sup> And Yahweh puts forth His hand, and strikes against my mouth, and Yahweh said unto me, `Lo, I have put my words in your mouth." ¹⁰ See, I have charged you this day concerning the nations, and concerning the kingdoms, to pluck up, and to break down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.'"

Responding is the king and saying to the wise men of Babylon that, "Any mortal who will read this writing and disclose its interpretation to me shall be clothed in purple, with a circlet of gold about his neck, and as the third one in the kingdom shall he have authority." ⁸ Then going in are all the king's wise men, yet they can not read the writing nor make known its interpretation to the king." ⁹ Then king Belshazzar is flustering greatly and his mien is altering, while his grandees are baffled."

²⁶ From before me is promulgated this decree:In every authority of my kingdom be they stirred and terrified before Daniel's Eloah:He is the living Eloah and is set up for the eons. His kingdom shall not come to harm and His jurisdiction is till the terminus.

Rise! Call to your Elohim! Perhaps the Elohim will reconsider as to us, and we will not perish."

Shall I forestall Him with ascent approaches, with calves a year old? ⁷ Will Yahweh accept thousands of rams, with myriads of watercourses of oil?
