⁴ And it comes to pass, in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth of the month, come has Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon--he and all his force--against Jerusalem, and they encamp against it, and build against it a fortification round about;"

²⁵ I will bring the sword on you avenging the vengeance of the covenant. When you will be gathered into your cities then I will send the plague into your midst, and you will be given into the hand of the enemy.

⁵² It will lay siege against you in all your gates until your lofty and defended walls in which you will be trusting come down in all your land; and he will lay siege against you in all your gates in all your land that Yahweh your Elohim will have given to you. ⁵³ Then you will eat the fruit of your own belly, the flesh of your sons and your daughters whom Yahweh your Elohim will have given to you, in the siege and in the constraint with which your enemy shall constrain you. ⁵⁴ The tender-hearted man among you and the one very fastidious, his eye shall be evil toward his brother and toward the wife of his bosom and toward the rest of his sons whom he shall have left, ⁵⁵ so as to keep from giving to one of them the flesh of his sons that he is eating because nothing at all remains for him in the siege and in the constraint with which your enemy shall constrain you in all your gates. ⁵⁶ The tender-hearted woman among you, and the fastidious one, who would not try to put the sole of her foot on the earth because of fastidiousness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom and toward her son and toward her daughter, ⁵⁷ even for her afterbirth coming forth from between her feet, even for her sons whom she is bearing, for she shall eat them for lack of everything, in concealment during the siege and during the constraint with which your enemy shall constrain you in your gates.

¹ And it comes to pass, in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth of the month, come has Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, he and all his force, against Jerusalem, and encamps against it, and builds against it a fortification round about. ² And the city enters into siege till the eleventh year of king Zedekiah, ³ on the ninth of the month--when the famine is severe in the city, and there has not been bread for the people of the land, ⁴ then the city is broken up, and all the men of war [go] by night the way of the gate, between the two walls that [are] by the garden of the king, and the Chaldeans [are] against the city round about, and [the king] goes the way of the plain. ⁵ And the force of the Chaldeans pursue after the king, and overtake him in the plains of Jericho, and all his force have been scattered from him;" ⁶ and they seize the king, and bring him up unto the king of Babylon, to Riblah, and they speak with him--judgment. ⁷ And the sons of Zedekiah they have slaughtered before his eyes, and the eyes of Zedekiah he has blinded, and binds him with brazen fetters, and they bring him to Babylon. ⁸ And in the fifth month, on the seventh of the month (it [is] the nineteenth year of king Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon), has Nebuzaradan chief of the executioners, servant of the king of Babylon, come to Jerusalem, ⁹ and he burns the house of Yahweh, and the house of the king, and all the houses of Jerusalem, yea, every great house he has burned with fire;" ¹⁰ and the walls of Jerusalem round about have all the forces of the Chaldeans, who [are] with the chief of the executioners, broken down. ¹¹ And the rest of the people, those left in the city, and those falling who have fallen to the king of Babylon, and the rest of the multitude, has Nebuzaradan chief of the executioners removed;" ¹² and of the poor of the land has the chief of the executioners left for vine-dressers and for husbandmen. ¹³ And the pillars of brass that [are] in the house of Yahweh, and the bases, and the sea of brass, that [is] in the house of Yahweh, have the Chaldeans broken in pieces, and bear away their brass to Babylon. ¹⁴ And the pots, and the shovels, and the snuffers, and the spoons, and all the vessels of brass with which they minister they have taken, ¹⁵ and the fire-pans, and the bowls that [are] wholly of silver, has the chief of the executioners taken. ¹⁶ The two pillars, the one sea, and the bases that Solomon made for the house of Yahweh, there was no weighing of the brass of all these vessels;" ¹⁷ eighteen cubits [is] the height of the one pillar, and the chapiter on it [is] of brass, and the height of the chapiter [is] three cubits, and the net and the pomegranates [are] on the chapiter round about--the whole [is] of brass; and like these has the second pillar, with the net. ¹⁸ And the chief of the executioners takes Seraiah the head priest, and Zephaniah the second priest, and the three keepers of the threshold, ¹⁹ and out of the city he has taken a certain eunuch who is appointed over the men of war, and five men of those seeing the king's face who have been found in the city, and the head scribe of the host, who musters the people of the land, and sixty men of the people of the land who are found in the city, ²⁰ and Nebuzaradan chief of the executioners takes them, and causes them to go unto the king of Babylon, to Libnah, ²¹ and the king of Babylon smites them, and puts them to death in Riblah, in the land of Hamath, and he removes Judah from off its land. ²² And the people that is left in the land of Judah whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has left--he appoints over them Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan. ²³ And all the heads of the forces hear--they and the men--that the king of Babylon has appointed Gedaliah, and they come in unto Gedaliah, to Mizpah, even Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and Johanan son of Kareah, and Seraiah son of Tanhumeth the Netophathite, and Jaazaniah son of the Maachathite--they and their men;" ²⁴ and Gedaliah swears to them, and to their men, and said to them, `Be not afraid of the servants of the Chaldeans, dwell in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it is good for you.. ²⁵ And it comes to pass, in the seventh month, come has Ishmael son of Nathaniah, son of Elishama of the seed of the kingdom, and ten men with him, and they smite Gedaliah, and he dies, and the Jews and the Chaldeans who have been with him in Mizpah. ²⁶ And all the people rise, from small even unto great, and the heads of the forces, and come in to Egypt, for they have been afraid of the presence of the Chaldeans. ²⁷ And it comes to pass, in the thirty and seventh year of the removal of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, in the twenty and seventh of the month has Evil-Merodach king of Babylon lifted up, in the year of his reigning, the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah, out of the house of restraint,

³ and I camp as David against you, and I besiege you with siege works, and I raise against you towers,

²⁴ Who gives Jacob to the robber, and Israel to plunderers? Is it not Yahweh Elohim, this One against Whom they sin? Yet they are not willing to go in His ways. And they are not hearkening to His law." ²⁵ And He will pour out the fury of His anger on him, and strengthen the battle. And it will set him aflame round about. Yet he will not know that it shall consume among them. Yet they will not lay it to heart."

³ Unto her come do shepherds and their droves, They have stricken tents by her round about, They have fed each [in] his own station." ⁴ Sanctify you against her the battle, Rise, and we go up at noon. Woe to us, for turned has the day, For stretched out are the shades of evening, ⁵ `Rise, and we go up by night, And we destroy her palaces.'" ⁶ For thus said Yahweh of Hosts:Cut down her wood, And pour out against Jerusalem a mount, She [is] the city to be inspected, Wholly--she is oppression in her midst."

²⁴ `Lo, the mounts--they have come in to the city to capture it, and the city has been given into the hand of the Chaldeans who are fighting against it, because of the sword, and the famine, and the pestilence; and that which You have spoken has come to pass, and lo, You are seeing;"

¹ In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, come has Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and all his force unto Jerusalem, and they lay siege against it;"

⁷ then is the city broken up, and all the men of war flee, and go forth from the city by night, the way of the gate between the two walls, that [is] by the king's garden--and the Chaldeans [are] by the city round about--and they go the way of the plain."

¹ `And you, son of man, take to you a brick, and you have put it before you, and have graven on it a city--Jerusalem, <sup>2</sup> and have placed against it a siege, and builded against it a fortification, and poured out against it a mount, and placed against it camps, yea, set you against it battering-rams round about." <sup>3</sup> And you, take to you an iron pan, and you have made it a wall of iron between you and the city; and you have prepared your face against it, and it has been in a siege, yea, you have laid siege against it. A sign it [is] to the house of Israel." <sup>4</sup> `And you, lie on your left side, and you have placed the iniquity of the house of Israel on it; the number of the days that you lie on it, you bear their iniquity." ⁵ And I--I have laid on you the years of their iniquity, the number of days, three hundred and ninety days; and you have borne the iniquity of the house of Israel." ⁶ And you have completed these, and have lain on your right side, a second time, and have borne the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days--a day for a year--a day for a year I have appointed to you." ⁷ `And unto the siege of Jerusalem you do prepare your face, and your arm [is] uncovered, and you have prophesied concerning it."

²² At his right has been the divination--Jerusalem, To place battering-rams, To open the mouth with slaughter, To lift up a voice with shouting, To place battering-rams against the gates, To pour out a mount, to build a fortification."

¹ And there is a word of Yahweh unto me, in the ninth year, in the tenth month, in the tenth of the month, saying, ² `Son of man, write for you the name of the day--this self-same day leaned has the king of Babylon toward Jerusalem in this self-same day--"

¹⁹ Thus says Yahweh of hosts:The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall become to the house of Judah elation and rejoicing and good appointments, and you will exult. Hence love truth and peace!"

⁴³ for the days will be arriving on you, and your enemies will be casting up a rampart about you, and will be surrounding you, and will be pressing you everywhere,

²⁰ Now whenever you may be perceiving Jerusalem surrounded by encampments, then know that her desolation is near."
