³⁶ What? you are very vile to repeat your way, Even of Egypt you are ashamed, As you have been ashamed of Asshur,

¹⁶ At that time has king Ahaz sent unto the king of Asshur to give help to him;

²⁰ And Tilgath-Pilneser king of Asshur comes in unto him, and does distress him, and has not strengthened him, ²¹ though Ahaz has taken a portion [out] of the house of Yahweh, and [out] of the house of the king, and of the princes, and gives to the king of Asshur, yet it is no help to him.

⁵ And they are dismayed and ashamed because of Ethiopia, their trust, and because of Egypt, their beauty."

¹ Woe, stubborn sons!averring is Yahweh, "To make counsel, yet not from Me, and to libate a libation, yet not of My spirit, that they may add sin on sin!" ² Going down to Egypt, yet they do not ask at My mouth, to be strong in the stronghold of Pharaoh, and to take refuge in the shadow of Egypt!" ³ Yet become, for you, shall the stronghold of Pharaoh for shame, and the refuge in the shadow of Egypt for confounding." ⁴ For his chiefs come to be in Zoan, and his messengers are attaining Hanes." ⁵ All are ashamed of a people who are not benefiting them, not for help, and not for benefit, for they are for shame, and even for reproach." ⁶ The load of the beasts of the south rim; in a land of distress and aridity and constraint, the parent lion and the long maned lion are there, yet no water. The puff adder and the burning serpent are making flight. They are bearing on the shoulders of donkeys their estate, and on the humps of camels their treasures, to a people who are not benefiting them for help, but for shame and for reproach." ⁷ And Egypt in vain and for naught is helping you. Wherefore I call as to this, "Their audacity shall cease!"

¹ Woe to those going down to Egypt for help! On horses are they leaning, and trusting in chariots, for they are many, and on horsemen, for they are very staunch. And they do not heed the Holy One of Israel, and of Yahweh Elohim they do not inquire." ² Yet, moreover, He is wise, and will bring evil, and His words He does not take away, and He rises against the house of the evil doers, and against the help of the contrivers of lawlessness." ³ Yet Egyptians are human and not the El, and their horses are flesh, and not spirit. When Yahweh is stretching out His hand, then the helper falters; and he who is helped falls. And, together, all of them will be finished."

¹⁸ And now, what--to you in the way of Egypt, To drink the waters of Sihor? And what--to you in the way of Asshur, To drink the waters of the River?

²³ How say you, `I have not been defiled, After the Baalim I have not gone?' See your way in a valley, know what you have done, A swift dromedary winding her ways,

³³ What--do you make pleasing your ways to seek love? Therefore even the wicked you have taught your ways.

²² Till when do you withdraw yourself, O backsliding daughter? For Yahweh has prepared a new thing in the land, Woman does compass man."

⁷ `Thus said Yahweh, Elohim of Israel, Thus do you say unto the king of Judah, who is sending you unto Me, to seek Me:Lo, the force of Pharaoh that is coming out to you for help has turned back to its land, to Egypt,

¹⁷ Furthermore for us our eyes are exhausted looking for our help in vain; From our watchtower we watched for a nation which could not save us.

⁶ We give the hand to Egypt and Assyria in order to be satisfied with bread.

⁷ In their taking hold of you by your hand, --you are crushed, And have rent to them all the shoulder, And in their leaning on you you are broken, And have caused all their thighs to stand."

¹³ And Ephraim is seeing his illness, and Judah his malady; and Ephraim is going to Assyria, and he is sending messengers to king Jareb, yet he will not be able to heal you, nor will he cure you of your malady;"

¹¹ And Ephraim is becoming as an enticing, heartless dove. On Egypt they call; to Assyria they go."

⁶ Moreover, it shall be fetched to Assyria, a present to king Jareb. Ephraim shall take shame, and Israel shall be ashamed because of its counsel."

¹ Ephraim is grazing on wind and is pursuing the east wind. The entire day he is increasing lying and futility, and they are contracting a covenant with Assyria, and oil is being fetched to Egypt."

³ Assyria will not save us; we will not ride on the horse. Nor shall we still say, Our elohim, to the work of our hands. For in You, the orphan is being shown compassion."
