¹ In the second year of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel reigned has Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah; ² a son of twenty and five years was he in his reigning, and twenty and nine years he has reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother [is] Jehoaddan of Jerusalem, ³ and he does that which [is] right in the eyes of Yahweh, only not like David his father, according to all that Joash his father did he has done, ⁴ only, the high places have not turned aside--yet are the people sacrificing and making perfume in high places. ⁵ And it comes to pass, when the kingdom has been strong in his hand, that he smites his servants, those smiting the king his father, ⁶ and the sons of those smiting [him] he has not put to death, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses that Yahweh commanded, saying, `Fathers are not put to death for sons, and sons are not put to death for fathers, but each for his own sin is put to death.. <sup>7</sup> He has smitten Edom, in the valley of salt--ten thousand, and seized Selah in war, and [one] calls its name Joktheel unto this day, <sup>8</sup> then has Amaziah sent messengers unto Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, `Come, we look one another in the face.. ⁹ And Jehoash king of Israel sends unto Amaziah king of Judah, saying, `The thorn that [is] in Lebanon has sent unto the cedar that [is] in Lebanon, saying, Give your daughter to my son for a wife; and pass by does a beast of the field that [is] in Lebanon, and treads down the thorn. ¹⁰ You have certainly smitten Edom, and your heart has lifted you up; be honored, and abide in your house; and why do you stir yourself up in evil, that you have fallen, you, and Judah with you?. ¹¹ And Amaziah has not hearkened, and go up does Jehoash king of Israel, and they look one another in the face, he and Amaziah king of Judah, in Beth-Shemesh, that [is] Judah's, ¹² and Judah is smitten before Israel, and they flee each to his tent. ¹³ And Amaziah king of Judah, son of Jehoash son of Ahaziah, caught has Jehoash king of Israel in Beth-Shemesh, and they come in to Jerusalem, and he bursts through the wall of Jerusalem, at the gate of Ephraim unto the gate of the corner, four hundred cubits, ¹⁴ and has taken all the gold and the silver, and all the vessels that are found in the house of Yahweh, and in the treasures of the house of the king, and the sons of the pledges, and turns back to Samaria. ¹⁵ And the rest of the matters of Jehoash that he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel? ¹⁶ And Jehoash lies with his fathers, and is buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel, and reign does Jeroboam his son in his stead. ¹⁷ And Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah lives after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years, ¹⁸ and the rest of the matters of Amaziah are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Judah? ¹⁹ And they make a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem, and he flees to Lachish, and they send after him to Lachish, and put him to death there, ²⁰ and lift him up on the horses, and he is buried in Jerusalem, with his fathers, in the city of David. ²¹ And all the people of Judah take Azariah, and he [is] a son of sixteen years, and cause him to reign instead of his father Amaziah;" ²² he has built Elath, and brings it back to Judah, after the lying of the king with his fathers. ²³ In the fifteenth year of Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah, reigned has Jeroboam son of Joash king of Israel in Samaria--forty and one years, ²⁴ and he does the evil thing in the eyes of Yahweh, he has not turned aside from all the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat that he caused Israel to sin. ²⁵ He has brought back the border of Israel, from the entering in of Hamath unto the sea of the desert, according to the word of Yahweh, Elohim of Israel, that He spoke by the hand of His servant Jonah son of Amittai the prophet, who [is] of Gath-Hepher, ²⁶ for Yahweh has seen the affliction of Israel--very bitter, and there is none restrained, and there is none left, and there is no helper to Israel;" ²⁷ and Yahweh has not spoken to blot out the name of Israel from under the heavens, and saves them by the hand of Jeroboam son of Joash. ²⁸ And the rest of the matters of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might with which he fought, and with which he brought back Damascus, and Hamath of Judah, into Israel, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel? ²⁹ And Jeroboam lies with his fathers, with the kings of Israel, and reign does Zechariah his son in his stead.

⁶ The shedder of the blood of a human, by a human his blood shall be shed, for in the image of the Elohim has He made humanity.

³ All these are joined at the vale of the salt fields. (It is now the salt sea.)

⁷ And coming is it that Er, Judah's firstborn, is evil in the eyes of Yahweh, and Yahweh is putting him to death.

⁷ Then Yahweh said: I see, yea see the humiliation of My people who are in Egypt. And I hear their crying because of the presence of their exactors; for I know their pains.

⁹ And now, behold, the cry of the sons of Israel has come to Me, and indeed, I have seen the oppression with which Egypt has been oppressing them.

⁹ Moses said to Pharaoh: Vaunt yourself over me as to when I should make entreaty for you and for your servants and for your people to cut off the frogs from you and from your houses. But in the waterway shall they remain.

¹² The smiter of a man that dies shall be put to death, yea death. ¹³ But if he had no malicious intent, yet the One, Elohim, He had fated him into his hand, then I set for you a place where he shall flee. ¹⁴ Yet in case a man was planning arrogantly against his associate so as to kill him by craft, from My altar shall you take him to die.

³² And now, if You should bear their sin, bear it. Yet if not, wipe me, I pray, from Your scroll which You have written. ³³ Yahweh said to Moses: Anyone who has sinned against Me, I shall wipe him from My scroll.

²¹ So they went up and explored the land from the wilderness of Zin as far as Rehob toward Lebo-hamath.

⁷ And this shall be your northern boundary:from the Great Sea you shall mark out your line to Mount Hor; ⁸ from Mount Hor you shall mark it out to Lebo-hamath, and the border-area of the territory will be at Zedad;"

³³ You shall not pollute the land in which you are dwelling; for it is the blood that pollutes the land. As for the land, no shelter may be made for the blood which was shed on it save by the blood of him who shed it.

⁸ So we passed on away from our brothers, the sons of Esau who are dwelling in Seir, away from the Aravah road, away from Elath and away from Ezion-geber, and turned around and passed on by the Moab wilderness road.

¹⁷ In the west the Aravah with the Jordan was the boundary from Chinnereth as far as the sea of the Aravah, the Salt Sea, below the slopes of the Pisgah ridge toward sunrise.

¹⁴ then your heart becomes exalted and you forget Yahweh your Elohim Who was bringing you forth from the country of Egypt, from the house of servants,

¹⁴ Hold yourself back from Me so that I shall exterminate them and wipe out their name from under the heavens, and I shall make you into a more substantial and numerous nation than they.

¹⁸ Then I cast myself down before Yahweh as the first time for forty days and forty nights. Bread I did not eat, and water I did not drink on account of all your sin which you had sinned by doing what was evil in the eyes of Yahweh your Elohim to provoke Him to vexation.

¹⁶ Fathers shall not be put to death on account of their sons' sins, nor shall sons be put to death on account of their fathers' sins. Each man shall be put to death for his own sin.

¹⁹ It will come to be when Yahweh your Elohim gives rest to you from all your enemies around in the land that Yahweh your Elohim is giving to you as an allotment to tenant it, you shall wipe out the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens. You shall not forget.

²⁰ Yahweh shall not be willing to pardon him, because then Yahweh's anger and His jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the imprecation that is written in this scroll will lie on him. Yahweh will wipe out his name from under the heavens;"

³⁶ For Yahweh shall adjudicate His people and show Himself merciful over His servants when He sees that the power of their hand has departed and has become nil for both the restrained and the ones set free.

³ And Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem sends unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying,

³¹ And Joshua passes over, and all Israel with him, from Libnah to Lachish, and encamps against it, and fights against it;"

¹⁰ and the border has gone round from Baalah westward, unto mount Seir, and passed over unto the side of mount Jearim (it [is] Chesalon), on the north, and gone down [to] Beth-Shemesh, and passed over to Timnah;"

³⁸ and Dilean, and Mizpeh, and Joktheel,

¹³ and thence it has passed over eastward, to the east, to Gittah-Hepher, [to] Ittah-Kazin, and gone out [to] Rimmon-Methoar to Neah;"

³⁸ and Iron, and Migdal-El, Horem, and Beth-Anath, and Beth-Shemesh; nineteen cities and their villages.

¹⁶ and Ain and its suburbs, and Juttah and its suburbs, Beth-Shemesh and its suburbs; nine cities out of these two tribes.

⁸ `The trees have diligently gone to anoint over them a king, and they say to the olive, Reign you over us. <sup>9</sup> And the olive said to them, Have I ceased from my fatness, by which they honor elohims and men, that I have gone to stagger over the trees? <sup>10</sup> And the trees say to the fig, Come you, reign over us. <sup>11</sup> And the fig said to them, Have I ceased from my sweetness, and my good increase, that I have gone to stagger over the trees? <sup>12</sup> `And the trees say to the vine, Come you, reign over us. ¹³ And the vine said to them, Have I ceased from my new wine, which is rejoicing elohims and men, that I have gone to stagger over the trees? ¹⁴ And all the trees say unto the bramble, Come you, reign over us. ¹⁵ And the bramble said unto the trees, If in truth you are anointing me for king over you, come, take refuge in my shadow; and if not--fire comes out from the bramble, and devours the cedars of Lebanon.

¹⁶ And they turn aside the elohims of the stranger out of their midst, and serve Yahweh, and His soul is grieved with the misery of Israel.

¹⁰ And the Philistines fight, and Israel is smitten, and they flee each to his tents, and the blow is very great, and there fall of Israel thirty thousand footmen;"

⁹ and you have seen, if the way of its own border it goes up to Beth-Shemesh--He has done to us this great evil; and if not, then we have known that His hand has not come against us; an accident it has been to us.. ¹⁰ And the men do so, and take two suckling kine, and bind them in the cart, and their young ones they have shut up in the house;" ¹¹ and they place the ark of Yahweh upon the cart, and the coffer, and the golden mice, and the images of their emerods. ¹² And the kine go straight in the way, on the way to Beth-Shemesh, in one highway they have gone, going and lowing, and have not turned aside right or left; and the princes of the Philistines are going after them unto the border of Beth-Shemesh. ¹³ And the Beth-Shemeshites are reaping their wheat-harvest in the valley, and they lift up their eyes, and see the ark, and rejoice to see [it]. ¹⁴ And the cart has come in unto the field of Joshua the Beth-Shemeshite, and stands there, and there [is] a great stone, and they cleave the wood of the cart, and the kine they have caused to ascend--a burnt-offering to Yahweh. ¹⁵ And the Levites have taken down the ark of Yahweh, and the coffer which [is] with it, in which [are] the vessels of gold, and place [them] on the great stone; and the men of Beth-Shemesh have caused to ascend burnt-offerings and sacrifice sacrifices in that day to Yahweh;" ¹⁶ and the five princes of the Philistines have seen [it], and turn back [to] Ekron, on that day. ¹⁷ And these [are] the golden emerods which the Philistines have sent back--a guilt-offering to Yahweh:for Ashdod one, for Gaza one, for Ashkelon one, for Gath one, for Ekron one;" ¹⁸ and the golden mice--the number of all the cities of the Philistines--for the five princes, from the fenced city even unto the hamlet of the villages, even unto the great meadow on which they placed the ark of Yahweh--[are] unto this day in the field of Joshua the Beth-Shemeshite. ¹⁹ And He smites among the men of Beth-Shemesh, for they looked into the ark of Yahweh, yea, He smites among the people seventy men--fifty chief men; and the people mourn, because Yahweh smote among the people--a great smiting.

⁶ And the men of Israel have seen that they are distressed, that the people has been oppressed, and the people hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in high places, and in pits.

¹⁴ And Abner said unto Joab, `Let the youths rise, I pray you, and they play before us;' and Joab said, `Let them rise.. ¹⁵ And they rise and pass over, in number twelve of Benjamin, even of Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, and twelve of the servants of David. ¹⁶ And they lay hold, each on the head of his companion, and his sword [is] in the side of his companion, and they fall together, and [one] calls that place Helkath-Hazzurim, which [is] in Gibeon, ¹⁷ and the battle is very hard on that day, and Abner is smitten, and the men of Israel, before the servants of David.

¹² `When your days are full, and you have lain with your fathers, then I have raised up your seed after you which goes out from your bowels, and have established his kingdom;"

⁶ and David puts garrisons in Aram of Damascus, and Aram is to David for a servant, bearing a present; and Yahweh saves David whithersoever he has gone;"

¹³ And David makes a name in his turning back from his smiting Aram in the valley of Salt--eighteen thousand;

¹ And Yahweh sends Nathan unto David, and he comes unto him, and said to him:`Two men have been in one city; One rich and one poor;" ² The rich has flocks and herds very many; ³ And the poor one has nothing, Except one little ewe-lamb, Which he has bought, and keeps alive, And it grows up with him, And with his sons together; Of his morsel it eats, And from his cup it drinks, And in his bosom it lies, And it is to him as a daughter;" ⁴ And there comes a traveller to the rich man, And he spares to take Of his own flock, and of his own herd, To prepare for the traveller Who has come to him, And he takes the ewe-lamb of the poor man, And prepares it for the man Who has come unto him..

¹⁷ and they take Absalom and cast him in the forest unto the great pit, and set up over him a very great heap of stones, and all Israel have fled--each to his tent.

²¹ and it has been, when my lord the king lies with his fathers, that I have been, I and my son Solomon--[reckoned] sinners..

¹⁰ And David lies down with his fathers, and is buried in the city of David,

³³ and he speaks concerning the trees, from the cedar that [is] in Lebanon, even unto the hyssop that is coming out in the wall, and he speaks concerning the cattle, and concerning the fowl, and concerning the creeping things, and concerning the fishes,

⁵¹ And it is complete--all the work that king Solomon has made [for] the house of Yahweh, and Solomon brings in the sanctified things of David his father; the silver, and the gold, and the vessels he has put in the treasuries of the house of Yahweh.

⁶⁵ And Solomon makes, at that time, the festival--and all Israel with him, a great assembly from the entering in of Hamath unto the brook of Egypt--before Yahweh our Elohim, seven days and seven days; fourteen days.

²⁶ And a navy has king Solomon made in Ezion-Geber, that is beside Eloth, on the edge of the Sea of Suph, in the land of Edom.

⁴ And it comes to pass, at the time of the old age of Solomon, his wives have turned aside his heart after other elohims, and his heart has not been perfect with Yahweh his Elohim, like the heart of David his father.

²⁴ and gathers unto himself men, and is head of a troop in David's slaying them, and they go to Damascus, and dwell in it, and reign in Damascus;"

⁴¹ And the rest of the matters of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom, are they not written on the book of the matters of Solomon?

⁴³ and Solomon lies with his fathers, and is buried in the city of David his father, and reign does Rehoboam his son in his stead.

²⁸ And the king takes counsel, and makes two calves of gold, and said unto them, `Enough to you of going up to Jerusalem; lo, your elohims, O Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.. ²⁹ And he sets the one in Beth-El, and the other he has put in Dan, ³⁰ and this thing becomes a sin, and the people go before the one--unto Dan. ³¹ And he makes the house of high places, and makes priests of the extremities of the people, who were not of the sons of Levi;"

¹⁰ `Therefore, lo, I am bringing in evil unto the house of Jeroboam, and have cut off to Jeroboam those sitting on the wall--shut up and left--in Israel, and have put away the posterity of the house of Jeroboam, as one puts away the dung till its consumption;"

¹⁹ And the rest of the matters of Jeroboam, how he fought, and how he reigned, lo, they are written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel. ²⁰ And the days that Jeroboam reigned [are] twenty and two years, and he lies with his fathers, and reign does Nadab his son in his stead.

²⁶ and he takes the treasures of the house of Yahweh, and the treasures of the house of the king, yea, the whole he has taken; and he takes all the shields of gold that Solomon made.

²⁹ And the rest of the matters of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Judah?

³ and he walks in all the sins of his father, that he did before him, and his heart has not been perfect with Yahweh his Elohim, as the heart of David his father;"

¹⁸ And Asa takes all the silver and the gold that are left in the treasures of the house of Yahweh, and the treasures of the house of the king, and gives them into the hand of his servants, and king Asa sends them unto Ben-Hadad, son of Tabrimmon, son of Hezion king of Aram, who is dwelling in Damascus, saying,

²¹ lo, I am bringing in unto you evil, and have taken away your posterity, and cut off to Ahab those sitting on the wall, and restrained, and left, in Israel,

²⁵ surely there has none been like Ahab, who sold himself to do the evil thing in the eyes of Yahweh, whom Jezebel his wife has moved,

³⁶ and he causes the cry to pass over through the camp, at the going in of the sun, saying, `Each unto his city, and each unto his land..

¹ And Naaman, head of the host of the king of Aram, was a great man before his lord, and accepted of face, for by him had Yahweh given salvation to Aram, and the man was mighty in valor--leprous.

²⁰ In his days has Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and they cause a king to reign over them, ²¹ and Joram passes over to Zair, and all the chariots with him, and he himself has risen by night, and smites Edom, that is coming round about unto him, and the heads of the chariots, and the people flees to its tents;" ²² and Edom revolts from under the hand of Judah till this day; then does Libnah revolt at that time.

²⁴ And Joram lies with his fathers, and is buried with his fathers in the city of David, and reign does Ahaziah his son in his stead.

²⁸ and his servants carry him in a chariot to Jerusalem, and bury him in his burying-place, with his fathers, in the city of David.

³² In those days has Yahweh begun to cut off [some] in Israel, and Hazael smites them in all the border of Israel,

³⁴ And the rest of the matters of Jehu, and all that he did, and all his might, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel? ³⁵ And Jehu lies with his fathers, and they bury him in Samaria, and reign does Jehoahaz his son in his stead.

² and Jehoash does that which is right in the eyes of Yahweh all his days in which Jehoiada the priest directed him, ³ only, the high places have not turned aside, still are the people sacrificing and making perfume in high places.

¹⁸ and Jehoash king of Judah takes all the sanctified things that Jehoshaphat, and Jehoram, and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had sanctified, and his own sanctified things, and all the gold that is found in the treasures of the house of Yahweh and of the house of the king, and sends to Hazael king of Aram, and he goes up from off Jerusalem.

²⁰ And his servants rise, and make a conspiracy, and smite Joash in the house of Millo, that is going down to Silla. ²¹ yea, Jozachar son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad son of Shemer, his servants, have smitten him, and he dies, and they bury him with his fathers in the city of David, and reign does Amaziah his son, in his stead.

⁸ And the rest of the matters of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel? ⁹ And Jehoahaz lies with his fathers, and they bury him in Samaria, and reign does Joash his son in his stead. ¹⁰ In the thirty and seventh year of Joash king of Judah reigned has Jehoash son of Jehoahaz over Israel, in Samaria--sixteen years, ¹¹ and he does the evil thing in the eyes of Yahweh, he has not turned aside from all the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, that he caused Israel to sin, therein he walked. ¹² And the rest of the matters of Joash, and all that he did, and his might with which he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?

¹⁰ And Shallum son of Jabesh conspires against him, and smites him before the people, and puts him to death, and reigns in his stead.

¹³ Shallum son of Jabesh has reigned in the thirty and ninth year of Uzziah king of Judah, and he reigns a month of days in Samaria;" ¹⁴ and go up does Menahem son of Gadi from Tirzah and comes in to Samaria, and smites Shallum son of Jabesh in Samaria, and puts him to death, and reigns in his stead.

²⁵ And Pekah son of Remaliah, his captain, does conspire against him, and smites him in Samaria, in the high place of the house of the king with Argob and Arieh, and with him fifty men of the sons of the Gileadites, and he puts him to death, and reigns in his stead.

³⁰ And make a conspiracy does Hoshea son of Elah against Pekah son of Remaliah, and smites him, and puts him to death, and reigns in his stead, in the twentieth year of Jotham son of Uzziah.

³⁵ Only, the high places have not turned aside--yet are the people sacrificing and making perfume in high places; he has built the high gate of the house of Yahweh.

⁴ and he sacrifices and makes perfume in high places, and on the heights, and under every green tree.

⁶ At that time has Rezin king of Aram brought back Elath to Aram, and casts out the Jews from Elath, and the Arameans have come in to Elath, and dwell there unto this day.

¹⁴ and Hezekiah king of Judah sends unto the king of Asshur to Lachish, saying, `I have sinned, turn back from off me; that which you put on me I bear;' and the king of Asshur lays on Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver, and thirty talents of gold,

¹⁷ And the king of Asshur sends Tartan, and the chief of the eunuchs, and the chief of the butlers, from Lachish, unto king Hezekiah, with a heavy force, to Jerusalem, and they go up and come in to Jerusalem, and they go up, and come in and stand by the conduit of the upper pool that [is] in the highway of the fuller's field.

²³ `And, now, give a pledge for you, I pray you, to my lord the king of Asshur, and I give to you two thousand horses, if you are able to give for you riders on them.

⁶ and he has caused his son to pass through fire, and observed clouds, and used enchantment, and dealt with a familiar spirit and wizards; he has multiplied to do the evil thing in the eyes of Yahweh--to provoke to anger.

And the prophet ceases, and said, `I have known that Elohim has counselled to destroy you, because you have done this, and have not hearkened to my counsel..

¹¹ and Yahweh brings in against them the heads of the host that the king of Asshur has, and they capture Manasseh among the thickets, and bind him with brazen fetters, and cause him to go to Babylon.

⁶ against him has Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon come up, and binds him in brazen fetters to take him away to Babylon.

¹⁰ and at the turn of the year has king Nebuchadnezzar sent and brings him in to Babylon, with the desirable vessels of the house of Yahweh, and causes Zedekiah his brother to reign over Judah and Jerusalem.

³ It is glory to a man to cease from contention, Yet every fool rails on."

¹⁸ Designs should be established by counsel; Execute war according to strategy.

⁹ As a thistle comes up to the hand of a drunkard, So also a proverb to the mouth of the stupid."

²³ A man's pride abases him, Yet he who is lowly of spirit shall take firm hold of glory."

²³ Thus said Yahweh:Let not the wise boast himself in his wisdom, Nor let the mighty boast himself in his might, Let not the rich boast himself in his riches, ²⁴ But--in this let the boaster boast himself, In understanding and knowing Me, For I [am] Yahweh, doing kindness, Judgment, and righteousness, in the earth, For in these I have delighted, An affirmation of Yahweh."

¹⁹ O Yahweh, my strength, and my fortress, And my refuge in a day of adversity, Unto You nations do come from the ends of earth, And say, Only falsehood did our fathers inherit, Vanity, and none among them is profitable."

³⁰ But--each for his own iniquity does die, Every man who is eating the unripe fruit, Blunted are his teeth."

² `Son of man, set your face unto Gog, of the land of Magog, prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, and prophesy concerning him,

⁵ Persia, Cush, and Phut, with them, All of them [with] shield and helmet."

¹⁷ Thus said the Lord Yahweh:Are you he of whom I spoke in former days, By the hand of My servants, prophets of Israel, Who are prophesying in those days--years, To bring you in against them?

¹⁶ Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim, that [is] between the border of Damascus and the border of Hamath; Hazar-Hatticon, that [is] at the coast of Havran." ¹⁷ And the border from the sea has been Hazar-Enan, the border of Damascus, and Zaphon at the north, and the border of Hamath:and [this is] the north quarter." ¹⁸ `And the east quarter [is] from between Havran, and Damascus, and Gilead, and the land of Israel, [to] the Jordan; from the border over-against the eastern sea you measure:and [this is] the east quarter."

Herbage are they feeding to him, as oxen, and by the night mist of the heavens was his frame streaked, till he knew that the Supreme Eloah is in authority in the kingdom of mortals, and whom He is willing is He setting up over it." ²² Yet you, his grandson Belshazzar, you abase not your heart in Eloah's sight, forasmuch as all this you know." ²³ Over the Lord, the Eloah of the heavens, you exalt yourself; the vessels of His house they bring hither before you; you and your grandees, your consorts and your concubines are drinking turbid wine from them. Also elohim of silver, gold, copper, iron, wood, and stone who are not perceiving and not hearing and not knowing, these you laud, yet the Eloah in Whose hand is your breath, and for Whom are all your paths, Him you do not honor."

Yet I will not save them by bow, or by sword, or by battle, by horses or by horsemen."

⁶ For behold! They shall go away from devastation. Egypt will convene them; Memphis shall entomb them. The coveted places for their silver--the sting nettle shall tenant them. The thistle shall be in their tents.

And I rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword." ¹⁰ And Amaziah, priest of Bethel, is sending to Jeroboam, king of Israel, saying:Amos conspires against you within the house of Israel. The land is not able to contain all his words." ¹¹ For thus says Amos, By the sword will Jeroboam die. And Israel will verily be deported off his ground."

¹³ Harness the chariot to a stallion, dweller of Lachish. She is the beginning of sin to the daughter of Zion, for in you are found the transgressions of Israel."

⁴ Behold! it is made presumptuous:his soul is not upright in him. Yet the just one by his faith shall live.

⁴ You must not become as your forefathers, to whom the former prophets called saying, Thus says Yahweh of hosts:Return, I pray, from your evil ways, and from your evil actions. Yet they hearkened not, and they attended not to Me, (averring is Yahweh)." ⁵ Your forefathers, where are they? And the prophets, are they living for the eon? ⁶ Yea, My words and My statutes, which you have received, which I instruct, by My spirit, My servants the prophets, did they not overtake your forefathers? And they are turning away and are saying:Just as Yahweh of hosts plans to do to us, as fits our ways and our actions, so He does with us."

¹⁰ All the land shall be round about as the gorge from Geba to Rimmon, as the south rim of Jerusalem. Yet it is high, and under itself it shall be indwelt from the gate of Benjamin unto the place of the first gate, unto the gate of the corners and from the tower of Hananeel, unto the king's wine vats."

⁸ now Asaph begets Joshaphat; now Joshaphat begets Jehoram; now Jehoram begets Uzziah; ⁹ now Uzziah begets Jotham; now Jotham begets Ahaz; now Ahaz begets Hezekiah;

³⁹ Yet He, answering, said to them, "A generation, wicked and an adulteress, for a sign is seeking, and a sign will not be given to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet." ⁴⁰ For even as Jonah was in the bowel of the sea monster three days and three nights, thus will the Son of Mankind be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights."

I left for Myself seven thousand men who do not bow the knee to the image of Baal. ⁵ Thus, then, in the current era also, there has come to be a remnant according to the choice of grace." ⁶ Now if it is in grace, it is no longer out of works, else the grace is coming to be no longer grace. Now, if it is out of works, it is no longer grace, else the work is no longer work." ⁷ What then? What Israel is seeking for, this she did not encounter, yet the chosen encountered it. Now the rest were calloused, ⁸ even as it is written, God gives them a spirit of stupor, eyes not to be observing, and ears not to be hearing, till this very day." ⁹ And David is saying, Let their table become a trap and a mesh, And a snare and a repayment to them:" ¹⁰ Darkened be their eyes, not to be observing, And their backs bow together continually." ¹¹ I am saying, then, Do they not trip that they should be falling? May it not be coming to that! But in their offense is salvation to the nations, to provoke them to jealousy." ¹² Now if their offense is the world's riches and their discomfiture the nations' riches, how much rather that which fills them!"

⁴ Yet when the kindness and fondness for humanity of our Saviour, God, made its advent, ⁵ not for works which are wrought in righteousness which we do, but according to His mercy, He saves us, through the bath of renascence and renewal of holy spirit, ⁶ which He pours out on us richly through Jesus Christ, our Saviour,

⁹ Now let the humble brother be glorying in his exaltation,

⁶ Yet greater is the grace He is giving. Wherefore He is saying, God "the proud is resisting, yet to the humble He is giving grace."

¹⁸ being aware that not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, were you ransomed from your vain behavior, handed down by tradition from the fathers,

⁵ '"The one who is conquering, he shall be clothed in white garments, and under no circumstances will I be erasing his name from the scroll of life, and I will be avowing his name in front of My Father and before His messengers."
