¹ Paul, a bondservant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of the elect of God and the full knowledge of the truth which is according to godliness, ² in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time itself, ³ but has in due time manifested His word in a proclamation, with which I was entrusted according to the command of God our Savior; ⁴ To Titus, a genuine child according to our common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior. ⁵ For this reason I left you behind in Crete, so that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and you should appoint elders in every city as I commanded you: ⁶ if a man is unimpeachable, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of dissipation or who are insubordinate. ⁷ For a bishop must be unimpeachable, as God's steward, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, ⁸ but hospitable, loving good, prudent, just, holy, temperate, ⁹ holding fast to the faithful word as he was taught, that he may be able to exhort by sound doctrine, and to convince those who oppose it. ¹⁰ For there are also many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, ¹¹ whom it is necessary to shut their mouths, who overturn whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain. ¹² There said a certain one of them, a prophet of their own, "Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, idle gluttons." ¹³ This testimony is true; for which cause rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, ¹⁴ not giving heed to Jewish myths and to commands of men turning away from the truth. ¹⁵ All things indeed are pure to the pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience have been defiled. ¹⁶ They profess to know God, but in their works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.

¹⁹ For I know that he will order his sons, and his house after him, and they will keep the ways of the Lord, to do justice and judgment, that the Lord may bring upon Abraham all things whatsoever He has spoken to him.

⁶ Let not my soul come into their counsel, and let not my inward parts contend in their conspiracy, for in their wrath they slew men, and in their passion they hamstrung a bull.

⁹ You shall not drink wine nor strong drink, you and your sons with you, whenever you enter into the tabernacle of witness, or when you approach the altar, so shall you not die; it is a perpetual statute for your generations,

¹⁷ You shall not hate your brother in your heart: you shall surely rebuke your neighbor, so you shall not bear sin on his account.

⁷ They shall not take a woman who is a harlot and profaned, or a woman put away from her husband; for he is holy to the Lord his God.

¹⁴ But a widow, or one that is put away, or profaned, or a harlot, these he shall not take; but he shall take for a wife a virgin of his own people.

¹⁹ God is not as a man that He should waver, nor as a son of man that He should be threatened; shall He say and not perform? Shall He speak and not keep His word?

²⁹ Therefore why have you looked upon My incense offering and My grain offering with a shameless eye, and have honored your sons above Me, so that they should bless themselves with the firstfruits of every sacrifice of Israel before Me? ³⁰ Therefore thus says the Lord God of Israel: I said, Your house and the house of your father shall pass before Me forever: but now the Lord says, Far be it from Me; for I will only honor them that honor Me, and he that despises Me shall be despised.

¹² In that day I will raise up against Eli all things that I have said against his house; I will begin, and I will make an end. ¹³ And I have told him that I will be avenged on his house perpetually for the iniquities of his sons, because his sons spoke evil against God, and he did not admonish them.

²² And Samuel said, Does the Lord take as great pleasure in whole burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in hearing the words of the Lord? Behold, obedience is better than a good sacrifice, and hearkening than the fat of rams.

²⁴ And Saul said to Samuel, I have sinned, in that I have transgressed the word of the Lord and your direction; for I feared the people, and I listened to their voice.

⁷ And it came to pass, as soon as Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be God this day, who has given to David a wise son over this numerous people.

³² And they ministered in front of the tabernacle of witness, playing on instruments, until Solomon built the house of the Lord in Jerusalem; and they stood according to their order for their services.

⁴⁹ And Aaron and his sons were to burn incense on the altar of whole burnt offerings, and on the altar of incense, for all the ministry in the Holy of Holies, and to make atonement for Israel, according to all things that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded.

³ And the Lord said to the devil, Have you then observed My servant Job, that there is none like him upon the earth, a harmless, true, blameless, and godly man; abstaining from all evil? And yet he cleaves to innocence, although you have incited Me to destroy his substance without cause?

¹⁶ Alas then, abominable and unclean is man, drinking unrighteousness as a draught.

⁶ but keeping fast to my righteousness, I will by no means let it go: for I am not conscious to myself of having done anything amiss.

³ On behalf of the saints that are in His land, He has magnified all His pleasure in them.

¹¹ But the king shall rejoice in God; everyone that swears by Him shall be praised; for the mouth of them that speak unjust things has been stopped.

⁴² The upright shall see and rejoice; and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.

⁸⁰ Let my heart be blameless regarding Your statutes, that I may not be ashamed.

⁵ The righteous shall chasten me with mercy, and reprove me: but let not the oil of the sinner anoint my head: for yet shall my prayer also be in their pleasures.

²³ He established me in the beginning, before time was, before He made the earth. ²⁴ Even before He made the depths, before the fountains of water came forth; ²⁵ before the mountains were settled, and before all hills, He begot me. ²⁶ The Lord made countries and uninhabited lands, and the highest inhabited parts of the world. ²⁷ When He prepared the heaven, I was present with Him; and when He prepared His throne upon the winds; ²⁸ and when He strengthened the clouds above, and when He secured the fountains of the earth; ²⁹ and when He strengthened the foundations of the earth; ³⁰ I was by Him, suiting myself to Him, I was that in which He took delight; and daily I rejoiced in His presence continually. ³¹ For He rejoiced when He had completed the world, and rejoiced among the children of men.

¹⁷ A passionate man acts inconsiderately, but a sensible man bears up under many things.

¹⁸ A passionate man stirs up strife; but he that is slow to anger appeases even a rising one. ^(15:18A) A man slow to anger will extinguish quarrels, but an ungodly man rather stirs them up.

³² A man slow to anger is better than a strong man, and he that governs his temper better than he that takes a city.

⁴ A high-minded man is stout-hearted in his pride, and the lamp of the wicked is sin.

⁷ A wise son keeps the law, but he that keeps up debauchery dishonors his father.

⁴ Princes are prone to anger: let them then not drink wine: ⁵ lest they drink, and forget wisdom, and not be able to judge the poor rightly.

⁹ Be not hasty in your spirit to be angry; for anger will rest in the bosom of fools.

⁹ And because the Preacher was wise above others, so it was that he taught men excellent knowledge, and the ear will trace out the parables.

² Behold, my God is my Savior; I will trust in Him, and not be afraid; for the Lord is my glory and my praise, and has become my salvation.

⁷ For these have trespassed through wine; they have erred through strong drink; the priest and the prophet are mad through strong drink, they are swallowed up by reason of wine, they have staggered through drunkenness; they have erred; this is their vision.

¹³ And the Lord has said, This people draw near to Me with their mouth, and they honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me; and in vain do they worship Me, teaching the commandments and doctrines of men.

⁷ Who is like Me? Let him stand, and call, and declare, and prepare for Me from the time that I made man forever; and let them tell you the things that are coming before they arrive.

¹⁵ For you are God, yet we knew it not, the God of Israel, the Savior.

²¹ If they will declare, let them draw near, that they may know together, who has caused these things to be heard from the beginning; then was it told you. I am God, and there is not another beside Me; a just God and a Savior; there is none besides Me.

¹ Hear these words, you house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel, and have come forth out of Judah, who swear by the name of the Lord God of Israel, making mention of it, but not with truth, nor with righteousness;

² They seek Me day by day, and desire to know My ways, as a people that had done righteousness, and had not forsaken the judgment of their God; they now ask of Me righteous judgment, and desire to draw near to God,

³⁰ Call them reprobate silver, because the Lord has rejected them.

¹⁰ Therefore will I give their wives to others, and their fields to new inheritors; and they shall gather their fruits, says the Lord.

¹⁹ And they have dishonored Me before My people for a handful of barley, and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls which should not die, and to save alive the souls which should not live, while you speak to a people hearing vain speeches.

⁶³ that you may remember, and be ashamed, and may no more be able to open your mouth for your shame, when I am reconciled to you for all that you have done, says the Lord.

³¹ They approach you as a people that come together, and sit before you, and hear your words, but they will not do them; for there is falsehood in their mouth, and their heart goes after their pollutions.

²¹ And no priest shall drink any wine, when they go into the inner court. ²² Neither shall they take to themselves a widow for a wife, or one that is put away, but a virgin of the seed of Israel. But if there should happen to be a priest's widow, they shall take her.

²³ And at the latter time of their kingdom, when their sins are coming to the full, there shall arise a king of fierce countenance, who understands riddles;

²⁴ Seventy weeks have been determined upon your people, and upon the holy city, for sin to be ended, to seal up transgressions, to blot out iniquities, to make atonement for iniquities, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the Most Holy.

²⁷ And as for both the kings, their hearts are set upon evil, and they shall speak lies at one table; but it shall not prosper; for yet the end is for a fixed time.

² They shall soon cry out to Me, saying, O God, we know You. ³ For Israel has turned away from good things; they have pursued an enemy.

⁵ Thus says the Lord concerning the prophets that lead My people astray, that bite with their teeth, and proclaim peace to them; and when nothing was put into their mouth, they raised up war against them:

¹¹ Their heads have judged for gifts, and their priests have answered for hire, and her prophets have divined for silver: and yet they have rested on the Lord, saying, Is not the Lord among us? No evil shall come upon us.

³ For the vision is yet for a time, and it shall shoot forth at the end, and not in vain: though he should tarry, wait for him; for he will surely come, and will not tarry.

^{13 (2:14)} And Haggai said, If a defiled person who is unclean by reason of a dead body, touch any of these, shall it be defiled? And the priests answered and said, It shall be defiled.

⁵ Speak to the whole people of the land, and to the priests, saying, Though you fasted or lamented in the fifth or seventh months (yea, behold, these seventy years) have you at all fasted to Me? ⁶ And if you eat or drink, do you not eat and drink for yourselves?

¹⁵ And did he not do well? And there was the residue of his spirit. But you said, What does God seek but a seed? But take heed to your own spirit, and forsake not the wife of your youth.

¹³ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.

⁴⁵ "Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master appointed over his household, to give them food in due season?

³⁴ Then the King will say to those on His right hand, 'Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

⁴⁶ "And these shall go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

¹⁷ Now as He was going out into the road, one came running up, and having knelt before Him, he asked Him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?"

⁴² And the Lord said, "Who then is a faithful and wise steward, whom his master will make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season?

¹² And because the harbor was not suitable to winter in, the majority gave counsel to put to sea from there, if perhaps they might be able to get to Phoenix to spend the winter there, a harbor of Crete opening toward the southwest and to the northwest.

²¹ Now when they had abstained from food for a long time, then stood Paul in the midst of them and said, "Men, you should have followed my advice and not put to sea from Crete, and to spare yourselves this hardship and loss.

²⁸ And just as they did not approve to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up to a reprobate mind, to do the things which are not fitting;

You who abhor idols, do you commit sacrilege? ²³ You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God through the transgression of the law? ²⁴ For "The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you," just as it is written.

Just as it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, of those preaching the gospel of good things!"

¹⁴ I know and am convinced in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean of itself; except to him considering anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean.

²⁰ Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All things indeed are clean, but are evil for the man eating with offense.

²³ But he who doubts, if he eats, has been condemned, because it is not of faith; and everything which is not of faith is sin.

^{25 (14:24)} Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began, ^{26 (14:25)} but now made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures made known to all nations, according to the commandment of the eternal God, for obedience to the faith--

¹ Let a man so consider us, as ministers of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. ² Now furthermore what is required among the stewards, is that one be found faithful.

¹² All things are lawful for me, but all things are not profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything. ¹³ Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but God will destroy both this stomach and these foods. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

⁷ However, this knowledge is not in all people; rather some, with consciousness of the idol, until now eat it as something offered to idols; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.

¹⁷ For if I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if unwillingly, I have been entrusted with a commission.

²³ All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify.

²⁵ Eat everything being sold in the meat market, questioning nothing, for conscience' sake;

³¹ Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all things for the glory of God.

²⁷ Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord irreverently will be guilty of the body of the Lord and of the blood of the Lord. ²⁸ But let a man examine himself, and in this way let him eat from the bread and drink from the cup. ²⁹ For he that eats and drinks irreverently eats and drinks judgment to himself, not judging correctly the body of the Lord.

³⁴ But if anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, lest you come together for judgment. And the rest I will put in order when I come.

²⁴ But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an unlearned person comes in, he is reproved by all, he is discerned by all.

⁴⁰ Let all things be done properly and according to order.

¹ Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, to the church of God which is at Corinth, together with all the saints who are in all Achaia:

¹³ I had no rest in my spirit, because I did not find Titus my brother; but saying farewell to them, I departed for Macedonia.

¹³ And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to that which is written, "I believed, and therefore I spoke," we also believe, therefore we also speak,

⁴ but in everything commending ourselves as ministers of God: in much endurance, in tribulations, in hardships, in distresses, ⁵ in stripes, in imprisonments, in disturbances, in labors, in sleepless nights, in fastings; ⁶ in purity, in knowledge, in longsuffering, in kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in sincere love, ⁷ through the word of truth, through the power of God, through the weapons of righteousness on the right hand and on the left hand, ⁸ by honor and dishonor, by ill repute and good repute; as deceivers, and yet true;

⁶ Nevertheless God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus,

⁸ Because even if I made you sorry in the letter, I do not regret it, even if I did regret it. For I perceive that the same letter made you sorry, though only for a season. ⁹ Now I rejoice, not because you were made sorry, but because your sorrow led to repentance; for you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. ¹⁰ For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, without regret; but worldly sorrow produces death. ¹¹ For behold this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner, how much diligence it produced in you, even an eagerness to defend, even indignation, even fear, even longing, even zeal, even vengeance! In all things you demonstrated yourselves to be pure in this matter. ¹² Therefore, although I wrote to you, it was not for the sake of him who did the wrong, nor for the sake of him who was wronged, but so that your diligence on our behalf might be made known to you before God. ¹³ Because of this we have been comforted. And in your comfort we rejoiced exceedingly more over the joy of Titus, because his spirit has been refreshed by you all. ¹⁴ Because if in anything I have boasted to him concerning you, I was not put to shame, but as we spoke all things to you in truth, thus also our boasting to Titus became truth.

⁶ so that we urged Titus, that just as he had begun before, thus he would also finish this grace also in you.

¹⁶ But thanks be to God who puts the same earnest care for you in the heart of Titus.

²³ If anyone inquires about Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker concerning you; or if our brothers are inquired about, they are messengers of the churches, the glory of Christ.

¹⁰ As the truth of Christ is in me, that this boasting will not be silenced in me in the regions of Achaia.

¹² But what I am doing, I will also continue to do, that I may cut off the opportunity of those who desire an opportunity, that in what they boast they may be found just as we are. ¹³ For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. ¹⁵ Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.
