¹⁶ So then it is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God who shows mercy.

¹ And it came to pass after Isaac was old, that his eyes were dimmed so that he could not see; and he called Esau, his older son, and said to him, My son; and he said, Behold, I am here. ² And he said, Behold, I have grown old, and know not the day of my death. ³ Now then take the weapons, both your quiver and your bow, and go into the plain, and get me some venison, ⁴ and prepare some meats for me, as I like them, and bring them to me that I may eat, that my soul may bless you before I die.

⁹ Go now to the cattle and bring me from there two choice kids, tender and good, and I will prepare the meats for your father, as he likes. ¹⁰ And you shall bring them in to your father, and he shall eat, that your father may bless you before he dies. ¹¹ And Jacob said to his mother Rebecca, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth-skinned man. ¹² Perhaps my father may feel me, and I shall be before him as one ill-intentioned, and I shall bring upon me a curse, and not a blessing. ¹³ And his mother said to him, On me be your curse, my son; only listen to my voice, and go and bring them for me. ¹⁴ So he went and took and brought them to his mother; and his mother prepared the meats, as his father liked them.

³ With You is dominion in the day of Your power, in the splendors of Your saints; I have begotten You from the womb before the morning.

¹ I became manifest to them that asked not for Me; I was found by them that sought Me not; I said, Behold, I am here, to a nation who called not on My name.

²⁵ At that time Jesus answered and said, "I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent, and have revealed them to babes. ²⁶ Yes, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight.

²¹ In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, "I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent, and have revealed them to babes. Yes, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight."

¹² But as many as received Him, He gave them the authority to become children of God, to those who believe in His name; ¹³ who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

⁸ "The wind blows where it wills, and you hear its sound, but you do not know from where it comes and where it goes. So is everyone who has been born of the Spirit."

¹¹ for the children not yet being born, nor having done anything good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might abide, not of works but of Him who calls,

²⁶ For you see your calling, brothers, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many powerful, not many noble, are called. ²⁷ But God chose the foolish things of the world in order that He might humiliate the wise, and God chose the weak things of the world in order that He might humiliate the mighty. ²⁸ And the base things of the world, and the things having been despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, in order that He might nullify the things which are, ²⁹ so that no flesh may boast before God. ³⁰ But from Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption; ³¹ that, as it is written, "He that boasts, let him boast in the LORD."

⁴ But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, ⁵ even when we were dead in transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),

⁸ For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,

¹³ for it is God who is working in you, both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

¹³ But we are obligated to give thanks to God always for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning for salvation, through sanctification of the Spirit and belief in the truth, ¹⁴ to which He called you through our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

³ For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, being deceived, being enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. ⁴ But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, ⁵ not by works of righteousness which we did, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

¹⁸ Exercising His will He begat us by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.

⁹ But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that you may proclaim the excellent virtues of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; ¹⁰ who formerly were not a people but now are the people of God, who had not received mercy, but now have received mercy.
