⁷ so he eats and drinks as if anyone should swallow a hair, and do not bring him in to yourself, nor eat your morsel with him;

¹⁵ And Delilah said to Sampson, How can you say I love you, when your heart is not with me? This is the third time you have deceived me, and have not told me where your great strength lies.

²⁶ And Absalom said to him, And if not, let my brother Amnon go with us. Be courageous, and be valiant.

² Everyone has spoken vanity to his neighbor: their lips are deceitful, they have spoken with a double heart.

²¹ They were scattered at the anger of His countenance, and his heart drew near to them. His words were smoother than oil, yet they are darts.

²² Mercy is a fruit to a man, and a poor man is better than a rich liar.

²⁷ And as for both the kings, their hearts are set upon evil, and they shall speak lies at one table; but it shall not prosper; for yet the end is for a fixed time.

³ And at once some of the scribes said among themselves, "This Man blasphemes!" ⁴ But Jesus, perceiving their thoughts, said, "Why do you think evil in your hearts?

³⁹ Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke within himself, saying, "This Man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what sort of woman this is who touches Him, for she is a sinner."

³⁷ And as He spoke, a certain Pharisee asked that He would eat with him. And having entered, He reclined to eat. ³⁸ And when the Pharisee saw it, he marveled that He had not first washed before the meal. ³⁹ But the Lord said to him, "Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but the inside of you is full of greed and evil. ⁴⁰ Fools! Did not He who made the outside also make the inside? ⁴¹ Nevertheless give what is inside as alms; and see, all things are clean to you. ⁴² But woe to you Pharisees! Because you pay a tithe of mint and rue and every vegetable, and you pass over justice and the love of God. These things you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. ⁴³ Woe to you Pharisees! Because you love the first seat in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces. ⁴⁴ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you are like unmarked graves, and the men walking over them do not know it." ⁴⁵ Then one of the lawyers answered and said to Him, "Teacher, by saying these things You insult us also." ⁴⁶ And He said, "Woe to you lawyers as well! Because you load men with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers. ⁴⁷ Woe to you! Because you build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ Consequently, you bear witness to and approve of the deeds of your fathers; because they indeed killed them, but you build their tombs. ⁴⁹ Therefore the wisdom of God also said, 'I will send to them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute,' ⁵⁰ so that the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world may be required from this generation, ⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah who perished between the altar and the temple. Yes, I say to you, it shall be required of this generation. ⁵² Woe to you lawyers! Because you have taken away the key of knowledge. You yourselves did not enter in, and those who were entering in you hindered." ⁵³ And as He said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be dreadfully hostile, and to cross-examine Him about many things, ⁵⁴ lying in wait for Him, and seeking to catch Him in something He might say, so that they might accuse Him.
