⁶ Surely man walks in a shadow; nay, he is disquieted in vain; he lays up treasures, and knows not for whom he shall gather them.

³⁶ Incline my heart to Your testimonies, and not to covetousness. ³⁷ Turn away my eyes that I may not behold vanity; revive me in Your way.

²⁴ For a man has not strength and power forever; neither does he transmit it from generation to generation.

² Vanity of vanities, said the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.

¹³ There is an infirmity which I have seen under the sun, namely, wealth kept for its owner to his own hurt. ¹⁴ And that wealth shall perish in an evil trouble, and the man begets a son, and there is nothing in his hand.

⁸ Vanity of vanities, said the Preacher; all is vanity.

² Why do you value at the price of money, and give your labor for that which will not satisfy? Hearken to Me, and you shall eat that which is good, and your soul shall feast itself on good things.

¹⁷ Behold, your eyes are not good, nor your heart, but they go after your covetousness, and after the innocent blood to shed it, and after acts of injustice and slaughter, to commit them.

¹⁹ "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on the earth, where moth and rust corrupt, and where thieves dig through and steal;

²⁹ But this I say, brothers, the time has been shortened; so that from now on even those having wives should be as though they had none, ³⁰ and those weeping as though not weeping, and those rejoicing as though not rejoicing, and those buying as though not possessing, ³¹ and those using this world as not using it up. For the form of this world is passing away.

¹⁷ Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to put their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but in the living God, who provides all things richly for us to enjoy,

¹ Listen now, you rich, weep and howl at your miseries which are coming upon you! ² Your riches have decayed, and your garments have become moth-eaten.

¹⁶ Because everything that is in the world--the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--is not from the Father but is from the world.
