²⁰ Be not a winebibber, neither continue long at feasts, and purchases of flesh;

¹ Wine is a mocker, and strong drink full of violence; but every fool is entangled with them.

²⁹ Who has woe? Who has trouble? Who has quarrels? And who complains and disputes? Who has bruises without a cause? Whose eyes are livid? ³⁰ Are not those of them that stay long at wine? Are not those of them that haunt the places where banquets are? Be not drunk with wine; but converse with just men, and converse with them openly. ³¹ For if you should set your eyes on bowls and cups, you shall afterwards go more naked than a pestle. ³² But at last such a one stretches himself out as one smitten by a serpent, and venom is diffused through him as by a horned serpent. ³³ Whenever your eyes shall behold a strange woman, then your mouth shall speak perverse things. ³⁴ And you shall lie as in the midst of the sea, and as a pilot in a great storm. ³⁵ And you shall say, They struck me, and I was not pained; and they mocked me, and I knew it not: when will it be morning, that I may go and seek those with whom I may go in company?

⁷ A wise son keeps the law, but he that keeps up debauchery dishonors his father.

⁶ Give strong drink to those that are in sorrow, and the wine to drink to those in pain, ⁷ that they may forget their poverty, and may not remember their troubles anymore.

¹¹ Woe to them that rise up in the morning, and follow strong drink; who wait at it till evening; for the wine shall inflame them.

²² Woe to the strong of you that drink wine, and the mighty that mingle strong drink;

¹³ but they engaged in joy and gladness, slaying calves, and killing sheep, so as to eat flesh, and drink wine; saying, Let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we die.

⁴⁹ "and should begin to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards,

¹³ And not many days after, having gathered together all things, the younger son went on a journey to a distant country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living.

¹⁸ And do not get drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,

³ For we have spent enough of our past lifetime to accomplish the will of the Gentiles--having walked in wantonness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. ⁴ In regard to these, they are surprised that you do not run with them in the same flood of debauchery, reviling you.
