¹⁵ Now at the feast, the governor was accustomed to release to the crowd one prisoner whom they wished.

⁵ But they said, "Not during the feast, lest a disturbance take place among the people."

⁶ Now at the feast he would release one prisoner to them, whomever they would request. ⁷ And there was one called Barabbas, having been bound with his fellow rebels, who had committed murder in the rebellion. ⁸ Then the crowd cried out and began to request that just as always he would do this for them. ⁹ But Pilate answered them, saying, "Do you desire that I release to you the King of the Jews?" ¹⁰ For he knew that because of envy the chief priests had delivered Him up. ¹¹ But the chief priests stirred up the crowd, so that he should rather release Barabbas to them. ¹² But Pilate answered and said to them again, "What then do you desire that I should do with Him whom you call King of the Jews?" ¹³ And again they cried, "Crucify Him!" ¹⁴ But Pilate said to them, "Why, what evil did He do?" But they cried out all the more, "Crucify Him!" ¹⁵ So Pilate, wanting to gratify the crowd, released Barabbas to them; and he delivered up Jesus, after he had Him flogged, so that He might be crucified.

¹⁶ Therefore when I have flogged Him, I will release Him."

³⁸ Pilate said to Him, "What is truth?" And having said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, "I find no fault in Him. ³⁹ "But you have a custom that I should release someone to you at the Passover. Therefore do you wish that I should release the King of the Jews?" ⁴⁰ Then they all cried out again, saying, "Not this Man, but Barabbas!" Now Barabbas was a bandit.

¹⁶ Then he delivered Him to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus and led Him away.

²⁷ But after two years had passed, Felix received Porcius Festus as his successor; and Felix, desiring to grant favors to the Jews, left Paul in prison.

⁹ But Festus, desiring to grant a favor to the Jews, answered Paul and said, "Are you willing to go up to Jerusalem and there be judged before me concerning these things?"
