²⁷ And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave;

⁴ Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child, he is the greater in the kingdom of heaven.

³³ Then He came to Capernaum. And being in the house He asked them, "What were you disputing about with one another on the road?" ³⁴ But they were silent, for on the road they had discussed with one another who was greater. ³⁵ And having sat down He called the twelve, and said to them, "If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all."

²⁶ But you shall not be thus; but let the greatest among you, let him be as the youngest, and he who leads as he who serves.

³⁴ You yourselves know that these hands rendered service to my needs, and those who were with me. ³⁵ By all things I have shown you, that thus laboring it is necessary to help those being weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' "

¹⁴ I am a debtor both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to wise and to unwise.

(I speak as a fool) I am even more: in labors far more, in beatings immeasurably, in imprisonments far more, in deaths often. ²⁴ By the Jews five times I received forty stripes minus one. ²⁵ Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have spent in the depth of the sea. ²⁶ In journeys often, in dangers of rivers, in dangers of robbers, in dangers from my own race, in dangers from the Gentiles, in dangers in the city, in dangers in the wilderness, in dangers in the sea, in dangers among false brothers; ²⁷ in labor and hardship, in sleepless nights often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness--

¹⁵ And I gladly will spend and be expended for your souls; although the more abundantly I love you, the less I am loved.
