¹⁰ And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"

⁵ And, behold, I will send to you Elijah the Tishbite, before the great and glorious day of the Lord comes; ⁶ who shall turn again the heart of the father to the son, and the heart of a man to his neighbor, lest I come and smite the earth grievously.

¹⁴ And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah, the one who is about to come.

³ And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. ⁴ Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You desire, let us make here three tents: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."

⁴⁷ Some of those standing by, when they heard this, said, "This Man is calling Elijah!" ⁴⁸ Immediately one of them ran and took a sponge, and filled it with sour wine and put it around a reed, and offered it to Him to drink. ⁴⁹ But the rest said, "Leave Him alone; let us see if Elijah is coming to save Him."

¹¹ And they asked Him, saying, "Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"

²¹ And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" And he answered, "No."

²⁵ And they asked him, saying, "Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?"
