²⁹ For behold, the days are coming in which they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, and the wombs which did not give birth, and breasts which did not nurse!'

⁵³ And you shall eat the fruit of your body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters, all that He has given you, in your desperate straits and your affliction, with which your enemy shall afflict you. ⁵⁴ He that is tender and very delicate within you shall look with an evil eye upon his brother, and the wife in his bosom, and the children that are left, which may have been left to him; ⁵⁵ so as not to give to one of them of the flesh of his children, whom he shall eat, because of his having nothing left him in your desperate straits, and in your affliction, with which your enemies shall afflict you in all your cities. ⁵⁶ And she that is tender and delicate among you, whose foot has not ventured to go upon the earth for delicacy and tenderness, shall look with an evil eye on her husband in her bosom, and her son and her daughter, ⁵⁷ and her offspring that comes out between her feet, and the child which she shall bear; for she shall eat them because of the needs of all things, secretly in your desperate straits, and in your affliction, with which your enemy shall afflict you in your cities.

¹² For even if they should rear their children, yet shall they be utterly bereaved. Wherefore also there is woe to them, though My flesh is of them. ¹³ Ephraim, even as I saw, gave their children for a prey; yes, Ephraim was ready to bring out his children to slaughter. ¹⁴ Give them, O Lord: what will you give them? A miscarrying womb, and dry breasts. ¹⁵ All their wickedness is in Gilgal. For there I hated them; because of the wickedness of their practices, I will cast them out of My house, I will not love them anymore; all their princes are disobedient. ¹⁶ Ephraim is sick, he is dried up at his roots, he shall by no means bear fruit any longer. For even if they should beget children, I will kill the desired fruit of their womb.

¹⁶ Samaria shall be utterly destroyed, for she has resisted her God; they shall fall by the sword, and their sucklings shall be dashed against the ground, and their women and children ripped up.

¹⁹ But woe to those women who are pregnant, and to the women nursing a baby in those days!

¹⁷ But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! ¹⁸ And pray that your flight does not take place in winter. ¹⁹ For in those days will be tribulation, such as there has not been the like from the beginning of creation which God created until now, and never again shall be.

²³ But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing a baby in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath among this people. ²⁴ And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
